It's maybe a little odd to phrase it this way, but only after like 4+ years of on and off watching BL dramas (and getting into GL dramas) am I getting to stage of actually being okay with/open to "bad" endings again because it's not about the gay, it's about the plot. You now have my trust that you're not “killing off the gays” because they're gay, so I'm okay with killing off main characters if the plot makes sense that way.
And I probably would not have been ready to like it 4 years ago.
Right now I'm making personal bets about characters dying in and having a lovely time.
(Okay I’m still not going to watch heavy political/etc. type dramas but that’s just a general preference.)

Goddess bless you from death(Okay I’m still not going to watch heavy political/etc. type dramas but that’s just a general preference.)
That feeling when you’re reading a cnovel that’s actively being translated and you’ve caught up to the most recent chapter and you almost can’t bear to read it
it’s so good! and we’re only about halfway! though maybe if there are lots of extras like the first novel we’re closer to the narrative climax of at least this arc? but who knows

Once again proving my movie/tv pedigree, it’s taking me way longer to watch the latest episode of Me and Thee (a rom com?) than the latest episode of Goddess Bless Me From Death (supernatural crime thriller) which was actually starting to get scary this ep.
In fact, I’m still watching the ep of Me and Thee and procrastinating on pause by posting this thought. 😂
sigh
side note: I really need some Thai drama icons

(But team kpop will likely still happen! I do have details if anyone is interested.)
Our team doesn’t have a name yet as we’re still polling suggestions (voting will happen next) but I’m looking forward to seeing how it goes. 🐡

Instead of doing what I should be doing, I’m doing prep-prep-prep work for the fanworks alphabet meme (update: finally completed here) and mentally screaming because I found my x!!!!! Digging through the vault was not in vain!!!!
(I’m also finding some truly bizarre titling choices; truly my brain in 2015 was sleep-derived and stress-wired and assuming connections and references would be clear…and they are not.)

You know the kind of mood where you definitely have things to do (all carefully written on my hand 😂) but you’re getting the itch to create a new account somewhere or make some kind of website thing or something?
Oh well, once I’m home and have gotten a meal together I’ll be too tired to get up to shenanigans…
(Watching the Thai drama The Cursed Love right now and I’ve only watched episode 1 but so far it feels like a cross between Indiana Jones and Percy Jackson plus, according to the comments, Hindu mythology? Anyway, I’m having a good time.)

17 September 2025 16:13I wrote a random drabble today for
fan_flashworks and when I popped over to Ao3 to see what the book fandom is called there, I was SHOCKED (read this with full hyperbole) to discover that there are way more Anne/Gilbert fanworks than Anne/Diana. Gilbert! That whatever-you-call-a-love-interest-insert! That wet blanket! Puddleglum has him beat!
Gilbert may or may not have hidden depths and great character or whatever but the books (which I probably read over three times all through) did not really demonstrate that at all. I remember reading a great essay on Anne as well as the Emily of New Moon trilogy about how the interesting (male) love interests inevitably get shelved, and the MC ends up with the cardboard cutout. Wish I knew where that was; I’d like to read it again.
Anyway, I refuse to read the books anymore because they killed off my best beloved Walter, so maybe there are secret hidden depths that older-me could decipher. Whatever.

Looking at the list of non-fic books I've read this year, I'm feeling very amused. Of the 62 books so far, I have:
- a revisit of the Murderbot audiobooks
- a tiny handful of manga
- a whole bunch of Chinese webnovels, Thai webnovels, Japanese light novels, and one Korean webnovel series
- We Do Not Part by Han Kang
It's my own little "one of these things is not like the others" game. 😂
(I really don’t care about how many books I read, what I read, etc. It’s just nice to keep track for personal memory reasons.)

Good thing: after starting several years ago, I finally got around to cataloguing more of my books!
A thing: I am not done the books in my bedroom and I’m already over 400. (And this is after I culled/donated a bunch of sff mass-market paperbacks a few years ago, mostly ones we’d gotten from an emptying-nester.) Some of these catalogued books are “family” books and not strictly mine but…most of them are mine.
Another thing: this was motivated by needing to double-fill shelves, so I figured I’d catalogue while reorganizing. And this way it matters less if I can see all the spines…I hope?

With my second load of ordered danmei arriving,1 I came to the bizarre realization that after so many years I’m…buying books with the intention of…reading them? What a paradigm shift!
This isn’t quite 100% accurate, but through my life I was first in the stage of borrowing books from the library and then buying them to keep if I really liked them, then a lot of ebooks, never mind my massive fic reading numbers, and all throughout I’ve also had a strong general practice of buying select books to have for whatever reason, often with not much intention of reading them, at least not anytime soon.2
1 These aren’t “large” publishers like 7seas that I can get via my local bookstore but rather Rosmei & Via Lactea etc. and are physical-only (somewhat limited run?) publications.
2 i.e. I somehow randomly decided to start collecting C. J. Cherryh’s sci-fi books in hardcover, and now I’m too far in.

I do have rules! I’m only “allowed” to collect things that fall within certain parameters, though some of the new ones (danmei, light novels that are horror/certain others) are a bit loose and will need to be tightened up eventually. I don’t have enough space for an infinity of books. I also generally buy ebooks if I can get them DRM-free, and after that, depending on the title, I may go for an audiobook instead if it exists.)

I meant to post about this months ago, but I'm still somehow not really getting a handle on this year. Sometimes it's like that! Anyway, the
sunshine_challenge was always a really fun landmark for the year on Dreamwidth, and a slightly different type of event, and I was delighted to learn that after a couple of years of dormancy (hoping all is okay!) it's being carried on by a new team as the
sunshine_revival.
I did get as far as making a few banners for it that fit my journal, but I guess I'll have to see which one I pick.
( banner thumbnails )
As a side note though, maybe I'll have more success this year, since I have been writing more this last little while (cheers for
fan_flashworks!), so we'll see!

I’m guessing it’s probably not just a me thing, but it somehow continues to surprise me when I’m listening to an album and really connect to a piece to the extent that it makes me feel all metal about it ♡
Today’s was Ride’s Clouds of Saint Marie as reimagined by Pêtr Aleksänder - Spotify / YouTube Music / Apple Music. I gather that Ride is a rock band, but I mostly listen to classical spectrum music at work and this particular album firmly sits within that, and my reaction to this particular piece is in the same vein as pieces that are perhaps more firmly “classical”.
The kind of poor choices mood where you emerge from a (not-really) fugue state an hour or two later with two new domains.
…if I post about it, I won’t actually do it, right?

…in the five months since I posted that, I have ✨acquired✨ five more domains. All for very good reasons, I insist!

There are often discussions about what mics podficcers use, but the results vary widely depending on who sees the question and responds. For instance, I feel like there's an impression that the Blue Snowball and Blue Snowball iCE are popular podficcer mics, but is that actually the case?
So, out of curiosity, I put together a mini-survery for the podfic stats ✨

There is a really wide spread, which I was definitely expecting, but it's interesting to see that so far there the Blue Yeti seems to be in the lead? There was also a comment on discord that now the question was whether people like their mics :D That would have been an interesting question, but on the other hand I think it varies so much by person and style that I don't think advice can be given without nuance.
