Justin Taylor nervously adjusted his tie for the third time, scrutinizing his reflection in the bathroom mirror of the Pittsburgh Art Institute. At twenty-two, he was the youngest featured artist in tonight's showcase, and his stomach churned with equal parts excitement and terror. Four years of sleepless nights, criticism from professors, and countless sketches had led to this moment.<\/p>\n

\"You look fine,\" reassured Daphne, his bst friend since high school, leaning against the doorframe. \"Better than fine. You look hot, and your work is brilliant. Now stop fidgeting before you wear a hole in that tie.\"<\/p>\n

Justin exhaled slowly. \"What if no one likes my pieces? What if they think I'm just some kid playing at being an artist?\"<\/p>\n

\"Then they're idiots,\" Daphne said flatly. \"Now come on. People are already arriving, and Lindsay said some bigshot advertising executive is coming specifically to see your work.\"<\/p>\n

Justin's eyebrows shot up. \"She didn't tell me that.\"<\/p>\n

\"Because she knew you'd freak out even more.\" Daphne grabbed his arm. \"Now, come on. Your public awaits.\"<\/p>\n

Brian Kinney despised gallery openings. They were filled with pretentious people wearing black, making meaningless observations about splashes of color while drinking cheap wine from plastic cups. But when Lindsey had called, insisting he needed to see this particular artist's work, he'd reluctantly agreed. Lindsay Peterson had been his friend since college, and despite their vastly different lifestyles\u2014she as an art professor and gallery manager, he as the head of Kinnetik, Pittsburgh's most cutting-edge advertising agency\u2014she had never steered him wrong when it came to talent.<\/p>\n

\"This had better be worth it,\" Brian muttered to himself as he parked his black Corvette outside the gallery. At thirty-five, Brian had built his agency from nothing after walking away from Vanguard Advertising three years ago. Now he was known for campaigns that pushed boundaries and captured attention\u2014much like the man himself.<\/p>\n

Inside the gallery, Brian grabbed a glass of wine from a passing server and scanned the room. He nodded to acquaintances but made no effort to engage in small talk. His eyes wandered over the artwork, dismissing most pieces until he stopped in front of a large canvas that seemed to vibrate with energy.<\/p>\n

The painting depicted a man's silhouette against a cityscape at night, colors bleeding and blending in a way that conveyed both isolation and fierce independence. Something about it resonated with Brian immediately\u2014the tension between solitude and power, vulnerability and strength.<\/p>\n

\"What do you think?\" Lindsay materialized beside him, looking pleased with herself.<\/p>\n

He was dressed in a simple black suit with a blue tie that matched his eyes. Brian estimated he was in his early twenties.<\/p>\n

\"You should meet him,\" Lindsay suggested, a knowing smile playing at her lips.<\/p>\n

Brian raised an eyebrow. \"Are you matchmaking, or do you actually think his work would be good for Kinnetik?\"<\/p>\n

\"Both,\" Lindsay admitted. \"His art is exactly what you've been looking for in the Parker Hotels campaign, and he could use a commercial project. The fact that he's gorgeous and single is just... serendipitous.\"<\/p>\n

Brian snorted. \"Subtle, Lindz. Very subtle.\"<\/p>\n

\"When have I ever been subtle?\" She grinned. \"Come on, I'll introduce you.\"<\/p>\n

Justin was explaining his technique to an elderly couple when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to find Lindsay with a tall, impeccably dressed man who practically radiated confidence and sex appeal.<\/p>\n

\"Justin, there's someone I'd like you to meet,\" Lindsay said. \"This is Brian Kinney, the owner of Kinnetik Advertising. Brian, this is Justin Taylor, our featured artist tonight.\"<\/p>\n

Justin extended his hand, hoping it wasn't sweaty. \"Nice to meet you.\"<\/p>\n

Brian's grip was firm, his hazel eyes intense as they examined Justin's face. \"Interesting work. Especially the night series.\"<\/p>\n

\"Thank you,\" Justin replied, surprised. Most people commented on his more vibrant, colorful pieces first. The night series was darker, more complex\u2014closer to his heart.<\/p>\n

\"I'm working on a hotel campaign that needs artwork,\" Brian said without preamble. \"Something that captures urban sophistication without being clich\u00e9. Your style might work.\"<\/p>\n

Justin blinked, caught off guard. \"Um, I haven't done much commercial work.\"<\/p>\n

\"Even better. I don't want something that looks commercial.\" Brian handed him a business card. \"Come to my office on Monday. Nine a.m. Bring your portfolio.\"<\/p>\n

Before Justin could respond, Brian was already walking away, stopping briefly to examine another one of Justin's paintings. Lindsay gave Justin an encouraging smile.<\/p>\n

\"Is he always so...\"<\/p>\n

\"Abrupt? Arrogant? Devastatingly attractive?\" Lindsay supplied.<\/p>\n

\"Yes to all of the above,\" Justin laughed.<\/p>\n

\"That's Brian. He's brilliant at what he does, though. And he doesn't waste time on art he doesn't genuinely appreciate.\" She squeezed his arm. \"This could be a big opportunity, Justin.\"<\/p>\n

Justin nodded, turning the business card over in his fingers. \"Kinnetik, huh? Monday at nine.\"<\/p>\n

Later that night, as the gallery emptied, Justin sat alone with a glass of champagne, looking at his displayed work and trying to process the evening. He'd sold four pieces and had commissions for two more. Plus, somehow, he'd managed to catch the attention of Brian Kinney.<\/p>\n

Justin wasn't naive. He'd seen the way Brian looked at him\u2014it wasn't just about his art. Yet there was something compelling about the man beyond his obvious attractiveness. A challenge of sorts.<\/p>\n

\"Celebrating?\" A voice interrupted his thoughts. Brian stood nearby, hands in his pockets.<\/p>\n

\"False modesty doesn't suit you,\" Brian observed, sitting down beside him and taking the champagne from Justin's hand to taste it. \"You knew your work was good.\"<\/p>\n

Brian studied him for a moment. \"Hope is overrated. Know your worth.\"<\/p>\n

\"Is that your life philosophy?\" Justin asked boldly.<\/p>\n

\"Part of it.\" Brian stood, returning the glass. \"Remember. Monday, nine a.m. Don't be late.\"<\/p>\n

\"I won't,\" Justin promised, watching as Brian walked toward the exit.<\/p>\n

At the door, Brian turned back. \"And Justin? Wear something besides a suit. You look like you're playing dress-up.\"<\/p>\n

Before Justin could formulate a response, Brian was gone, leaving Justin torn between irritation and intrigue. Whatever Monday would bring, Justin had a feeling his life was about to change in ways he couldn't anticipate.<\/p>\n

Chapter 2: The Proposition<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kinnetik's offices were nothing like Justin had imagined. Housed in a former bathhouse, the space combined industrial elements with sleek, modern design. Art adorned the walls\u2014not the generic corporate pieces Justin expected, but provocative works that challenged the viewer.<\/p>\n

Justin arrived at 8:45 AM, portfolio in hand, dressed in dark jeans, a blue button-down shirt, and a charcoal blazer. He'd spent an embarrassing amount of time on his outfit, trying to strike a balance between professional and stylish without looking like he was trying too hard.<\/p>\n

\"Justin Taylor for Brian Kinney,\" he told the receptionist, a striking woman with vibrant red hair.<\/p>\n

She smiled. \"Ah, the artist. I'm Cynthia. Brian mentioned you'd be coming in.\" She picked up her phone. \"Mr. Taylor is here... Yes, I'll send him back.\"<\/p>\n

Cynthia led Justin through the office. \"Brian's been looking at your website all weekend,\" she confided. \"He never does that.\"<\/p>\n

Before Justin could ask what she meant, they arrived at a glass-walled office where Brian was standing at a light table, examining transparencies. He glanced up and nodded at Justin to enter.<\/p>\n

\"Right on time,\" Brian noted, as if surprised. \"Coffee?\"<\/p>\n

\"Please,\" Justin said, setting his portfolio down.<\/p>\n

Brian poured coffee from a carafe on his credenza, handed a cup to Justin without asking how he took it, then leaned against his desk. \"Show me what you brought.\"<\/p>\n

Justin opened his portfolio, spreading out samples of his work. Brian examined each piece carefully, occasionally asking questions about technique or inspiration. It was the most focused attention Justin had ever received on his artwork, and it was both flattering and unnerving.<\/p>\n

\"These are good,\" Brian finally said. \"But I don't see anything like what I have in mind for Parker Hotels.\"<\/p>\n

Justin frowned. \"You haven't actually told me what you have in mind.\"<\/p>\n

A hint of a smile crossed Brian's face. \"Fair point.\" He moved to his computer and pulled up images of luxury hotel interiors. \"Parker is rebranding\u2014moving from traditional luxury to something more contemporary. They need artwork for their lobbies, suites, and marketing materials that reflects this shift.\"<\/p>\n

\"And you think my style works for that?\"<\/p>\n

\"I think your understanding of urban spaces and light could work,\" Brian clarified. \"But I'd need you to create something specific. Something exclusive.\"<\/p>\n

Justin considered this. \"How many pieces?\"<\/p>\n

\"Initially, twelve. If the client likes them, potentially more for their properties worldwide.\" Brian named a figure that made Justin's eyes widen. \"Plus, your name and bio would be featured in their materials. It's good exposure.\"<\/p>\n

Justin tried to maintain his composure. The money would pay off his student loans and then some. \"And you'd want these by when?\"<\/p>\n

\"Six weeks.\"<\/p>\n

\"Six weeks for twelve original pieces?\" Justin shook his head. \"That's not possible.\"<\/p>\n

Brian raised an eyebrow. \"I thought artists were supposed to be passionate about their work. Willing to push themselves.\"<\/p>\n

\"Passionate, yes. Self-destructive, no,\" Justin countered. \"Quality takes time.\"<\/p>\n

They stared at each other, neither willing to back down. Finally, Brian spoke. \"Eight weeks. Final offer.\"<\/p>\n

Justin knew this was a pivotal moment. If he declined, he'd be walking away from the biggest opportunity of his career. If he accepted, his life would be consumed by this project for the next two months.<\/p>\n

\"I'll do it,\" Justin decided. \"But I need a contract specifying the terms, including my rights to the artwork after the exclusivity period ends.\"<\/p>\n

Brian looked mildly impressed. \"My lawyer will draw up the paperwork.\" He crossed to a cabinet, pulled out a folder, and handed it to Justin. \"These are the Parker properties. Get familiar with them. I want concept sketches by the end of the week.\"<\/p>\n

Justin took the folder. \"Is that all?\"<\/p>\n

\"For now.\" Brian turned back to his desk, dismissing him.<\/p>\n

Justin rose, irritated by the abrupt end to their meeting. He'd expected... what? More conversation? Some acknowledgment of the chemistry that had crackled between them at the gallery?<\/p>\n

\"Justin,\" Brian called as he reached the door. \"The blue shirt was a good choice. Brings out your eyes.\"<\/p>\n

Justin paused, unsure how to respond to the sudden compliment. \"Thanks. I'll have those sketches ready.\"<\/p>\n

Outside, Cynthia gave him a knowing smile. \"You survived. That's a good sign.\"<\/p>\n

\"Does he always keep people off-balance?\" Justin asked.<\/p>\n

\"Always,\" she confirmed. \"It's part of his charm. If you can call it that.\"<\/p>\n

That evening found Justin at the Liberty Diner, picking at a plate of fries while sketching preliminary ideas for the Parker project. The diner was a Liberty Avenue institution, known for its hearty food and its even heartier owner, Debbie Novotny.<\/p>\n

\"You've been staring at that sketchbook for an hour,\" observed a voice over his shoulder. \"Either you're creating a masterpiece or you're completely stuck.\"<\/p>\n

Justin looked up to find a slender, well-dressed man with kind eyes watching him. \"Somewhere in between,\" he admitted.<\/p>\n

\"Emmett Honeycutt,\" the man introduced himself, sliding into the booth opposite Justin. \"And you're Justin Taylor. I saw your show last week. Absolutely fabulous work.\"<\/p>\n

\"Thanks,\" Justin said, surprised to be recognized. \"How did you\u2014\"<\/p>\n

\"Honey, in this part of town, word travels faster than a rumor at a Southern Baptist picnic.\" Emmett waved to Debbie. \"Deb! Coffee please, and whatever dessert isn't going to completely destroy my waistline.\"<\/p>\n

Debbie approached, her red wig slightly askew, rainbow pins decorating her vest. \"Nothing we serve here is going to help your waistline, Em.\" She looked at Justin. \"You're still picking at those fries? You need meat on your bones, sunshine.\"<\/p>\n

\"I'm not really hungry,\" Justin said. \"Just working.\"<\/p>\n

\"He's an artist, Deb,\" Emmett explained. \"A brilliant one. Had a show at Lindsay's gallery.\"<\/p>\n

\"No shit?\" Debbie studied Justin with new interest. \"My son's partner is an artist too. Professor at the art institute. Michael owns the comic book store down the street.\"<\/p>\n

\"Michael Novotny? I love his store,\" Justin said, genuinely. \"I used to spend hours there in high school.\"<\/p>\n

\"Small world,\" Emmett commented. \"So what's got you looking so frustrated, Mr. Artist?\"<\/p>\n

Justin hesitated but found himself explaining the Parker Hotels project and his tight deadline. \"And the client\u2014well, the agency head\u2014is... complicated.\"<\/p>\n

\"Complicated how?\" Emmett pressed.<\/p>\n

\"Demanding. Abrupt. Attractive in an infuriating way.\"<\/p>\n

Emmett's eyes widened. \"Oh my God. You're working with Brian Kinney.\"<\/p>\n

\"You know him?\"<\/p>\n

\"Everyone knows Brian,\" Emmett said. \"He's practically Pittsburgh royalty in certain circles. Brilliant adman by day, legendary in other... departments by night.\"<\/p>\n

Justin felt his cheeks flush. \"I'm just focused on the work.\"<\/p>\n

\"Sure you are, sweetie,\" Emmett patted his hand. \"And I'm just focused on my diet.\"<\/p>\n

Debbie returned with Emmett's coffee and a slice of apple pie. \"Brian Kinney? You're working with that asshole?\"<\/p>\n

\"Deb,\" Emmett cautioned. \"Brian's not that bad.\"<\/p>\n

\"He's broken more hearts in this town than I've served hamburgers,\" Debbie declared. \"Including my son's best friend once upon a time.\"<\/p>\n

Justin's curiosity was piqued. \"What do you mean?\"<\/p>\n

\"Ancient history,\" Emmett dismissed. \"Brian and Michael were inseparable growing up. Brian was always the wild one\u2014Michael followed him around like a puppy. Until college, when Brian... well, Brian became Brian.\"<\/p>\n

\"Meaning?\"<\/p>\n

\"Meaning,\" Debbie interjected, \"he decided emotions were for losers and sex was just a sport. Nearly broke Michael's heart before he finally moved on.\"<\/p>\n

Justin absorbed this information, unsure why it bothered him. It wasn't as if he had any personal interest in Brian beyond their professional relationship. Yet something about the man had gotten under his skin in just two brief meetings.<\/p>\n

\"Just be careful,\" Debbie advised. \"Do your job, take his money, but guard your heart, sunshine. Men like Brian don't change.\"<\/p>\n

Back at his small apartment, Justin couldn't stop thinking about Brian Kinney. He spread the Parker Hotels materials across his floor, trying to focus on concepts. Each property had its own character, from sleek urban high-rises to renovated historical buildings.<\/p>\n

Justin began sketching, losing himself in the work as hours passed. Around 2 AM, his phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number:<\/p>\n

How are the concepts coming?<\/em><\/p>\n

Justin stared at his phone. Who would be texting at this hour about work? He typed back:<\/p>\n

The reply came immediately:<\/p>\n

Justin realized with a jolt it must be Brian. How had he gotten his number? Probably from the contact information Justin had left with Cynthia.<\/p>\n

And you're awake. Working, I hope.<\/em><\/p>\n

Justin hesitated, then took a photo of his sketches and sent it.<\/p>\n

Prove it,<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n

There was a long pause before Brian responded:<\/p>\n

Not bad. The third concept has potential. Keep going.<\/em><\/p>\n

Justin felt an absurd surge of pride at the minimal praise. Then his phone buzzed again:<\/p>\n

What are you wearing?<\/em><\/p>\n

Justin nearly dropped his phone. Was Brian Kinney actually trying to sext him? He typed back:<\/p>\n

I'm working, remember?<\/em><\/p>\n

That doesn't answer my question.<\/em><\/p>\n

Justin hesitated, then decided to call Brian's bluff:<\/p>\n

Nothing. I work better naked.<\/em><\/p>\n

This time the pause was even longer. Finally:<\/p>\n

Chapter 4<\/span>






"Hey, it's me," Brian said, when his trusty assistant Cynthia picked up the phone.


"Is everything okay?" She asked.


"Something came up," he said, hearing her giggling quietly. "It's not<\/i> what you think." He paused as he kept his hand on the wheel, changing into the left lane in the busy mid-morning traffic.


"I'm on my way to the office to make it in time for my eleven o'clock but don't schedule anything for the next two hours. And please book me a table for two at Arnold's for lunch," he asked matter-of-factly.
"Sounds exciting," Cynthia chimed in. "Are you finally<\/i> going to pop the question to him?" she teased her long-time boss.


"Wouldn't you like to know?" Brian answered back. "Justin and I are doing perfectly okay for now," his voice softened. "But don't worry, if I ever do pop the question you'll<\/i> be the first to know. But anyway, the lunch reservation is apparently all business and no pleasure.” Brian paused briefly. "I'll talk to you later, Cyn, " he said and ended the call.


A few moments later, Brian parked his Jeep at his designated parking spot and walked out. On his way to the elevators going up to his office, he tried as much as he could to keep his composure, knowing he had a new client waiting for him to present the best pitch possible for the product. That was one of his favorite parts about being an advertising executive, and he knew he was great at it, too. But this time it felt different. There was no doubt in his mind he'd land a lucrative account with the new client, but there was a looming angst at the pit of his stomach, as he dreaded meeting the person he was scheduled to have lunch with later.

"Mr. Telson?" Brian said as he approached the table at Arnold's, the stylish French restaurant downtown, which was one of Brian's favorite places to dine. He was a few minutes late to arrive, so by the time he entered the restaurant his guest was already seated at the table. It saved Brian some of the awkwardness, but he was still apprehensive when he walked to the table.


"Marvin, please," the elderly gentleman said. Mr. Telson reached his hand out to Brian and both men shook hands curtly.


"So Marvin, what was the thing you wanted to tell me, that you couldn't say in a phone call or an email?" Brian asked, trying to sound a lot more at ease than he actually was.


He had read the email and the letter from the law firm, but there was nothing much there, other than Mr. Telson's address and him asking to meet with Brian to discuss some private matters.


"Would you like to see the menu, sir?" A waiter asked, just as Mr. Telson was about to speak. "Not yet," Brian cut the waiter off.


"Could I get you something to drink?" the waiter pressed on.


"A large bottle of Perrier would be fine, thank you," Brian said. The waiter nodded and left to carry out his duties.



\"Marvin


\"BrianHtRJ2\"


"So I guess I should tell you why I had to meet with you in person," Marvin said, sipping from the glass the waiter had filled for him a few moments earlier. "I don't know how you'll react to what I'm about to tell you, so please hear me out first," Marvin said and put the glass back on the table. "I was an old acquaintance of your father."


"Oh?" Brian couldn't help but blurt out dryly. So that's what this was all about, Brian thought. The old geezer was probably one of the bastard's drinking buddies if ever he had a few. They probably gambled together, which meant the motherfucker probably owed Mr. Telson an arm and a leg in gambling debts, which prompted this guy to turn to his lawyers for legal advice, and sue for compensation.


"Okay, so how much did the bastard owe you?" Brain demanded with a raised eyebrow.


"He didn't owe me anything," Marvin answered in a low voice.  "If anything I  owe him a great deal." He paused and emptied the contents of his glass.


"You lost me, Mr. Telson," Brian shrugged.


Marvin stared at Brian and took a deep breath. "I guess I’ve kept it from you long enough, Brian, so I better just say it," the man said. "I guess you should know I was Jack's partner. We've been together for twenty seven years and I…I've never met anyone like him. He was the most fascinating exciting person I've ever met and… the most marvelous lover." Marvin's voice broke and his words trailed off, as he was seemingly rather emotional.


Brian sat there stony faced, pinching the bridge of his nose, trying to come to terms with what Mr. Telson had just told him.


"Look, Brian, I know this must be a shock to you, but please believe me when I tell you it was Jack's wish that I meet with you to tell you everything. He asked me personally, when we met just a few weeks before he passed away." Marvin's voice broke again. He pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket, wiped his eyes and blew his nose. "I think I need something stronger than this now," he said, pointing at the empty Perrier bottle and signaling the waiter to approach.


"A large Jim Beam on the rocks, please," he told the waiter. "Can I get you the same?" He turned to Brian who still sat there, not able to move a muscle. Brian didn't answer, just nodded for yes.


As the waiter turned away Brian kept still, the expression on his face not reflecting the internal turmoil he was going through. His thoughts and feelings were all over the place, but he certainly couldn't bring himself to feel sorry for Mr. Telson, despite his tearful display.


"That bastard, how could he? Twenty seven fucking years? That motherfucking hypocritical bastard!" That nagging thought kept pounding in his head.

Part 3




"Who is this guy?" Justin asked as he sat up, letting the duvet slip off his naked body. He sat on the edge of the bed, placing his hand on Brian's shoulder.


"Marvin Telson? Fuck if I know," Brian answered absently, still holding his phone in his hand.


"He's probably one of your former clients," Justin suggested.


"Not likely," Brian nodded. "I usually remember my clients, especially those who turned out to be some of my greatest accounts," he said, not hiding the pride in his voice.


"Well, maybe this guy Marvin has heard of your genius advertising skills and is considering becoming a future client. No wonder he left you a recorded message and sounded so eager to meet with you," Justin said, flashing a small smile.


"How did I ever get along without you?" Brian replied huskily, leaning into his partner's petite frame.


"You didn't," Justin's smile grew wider. He planted a kiss on Brian's forearm.


"I guess I could ask Cynthia about it later, once I get to the office," Brian said. He checked his phone for the time on the screen display. "It's almost 10 a.m. Gotta go now, Sunshine," Brian told Justin. He cupped Justin's chin, gently stroking his jawline, then pressing their lips together in a deep soft kiss.

Half an hour later, after they showered and had a light late breakfast, Brian was suitably dressed and ready to leave the loft to head downtown to Kinnetik, his successful advertising agency.


"I should get going too," Justin said. "There's a new project I'm working on this week so I better head downtown to my studio."


"Need a ride?" Brian suggested playfully. Justin's art studio was situated a few blocks away from Brian's office.


"Don't mind if I do," Justin replied. He walked back to the bedroom, pulled on his favorite pair of jeans, a grey T-shirt and his pale blue Adidas jacket. He slipped into his trainers, grabbed his backpack, and hurried back to the living area to join Brian, and leave the loft together.


Brian stood at the door, looking as handsome as always in one of his many designer suits.


"I'm ready," Justin exclaimed. Brian was checking his phone again, seemingly preoccupied with something else.


"Is everything okay?" Justin asked.


"It depends," Brian muttered in reply. "Listen to this…" He said, putting the speaker phone on.


"Mr. Kinney, it’s Marvin Telson. Sorry to be bothering you again this morning but I was waiting for you to contact me. Please try to do so as soon as possible. And by the way, I suggest you open your inbox. I sent you an email and didn't get any reply from you on that either. I really must meet with you in person. Have a good day." The recorded message ended and Brian closed his phone.


"What the fuck was that?" Justin spoke after a tense pause. Brian seemed confused and troubled.  Any trace of the playfulness he and Justin shared earlier in bed dissipated.


 Brian shrugged, but didn't answer. Justin stood by the door for a few more minutes, noticing the distinctive look on Brian's face. The same look Brian always had when he felt he was losing control over any given situation. Those were the times where Brian felt he was not on top, and as a result always seemed to be slipping into a black hole of uncertainty, letting old hidden skeletons creep out of their closet.
Justin knew he had to do something to send Brian something to hang onto, to pull himself out of the slippery slope.


"When did he send this?" Justin asked, hoping it would take Brian's mind off those unexplained messages.


 It did the trick. Brian started checking his phone again to verify the time of day both messages were sent.


"I wonder why I didn't hear the incoming messages or noticed he sent an email," Brian said.


"Your phone kept ringing," Justin mentioned. "But I urged you not to answer because we were otherwise engaged, remember?" Justin said, trying to lift Brian's spirits.


Brian smiled lovingly at his partner but he was clearly distressed.


"I guess I better check my emails before we leave," he said. "You know I don't like to open my emails through my phone," he pointed out and walked towards his work area. "It will only take a minute," he said, while opening his laptop and going through his recent emails.


“Fuck! Where is it?” He lifted his eyes from the laptop screen.


"Where is what? What's going on?" Justin seemed confused and slightly terrified.


"The letter… the fucking letter Clair gave me the other day when we met her at the storage unit. Where the fuck did I put it? This is so fucked!" Brian kept mumbling, almost losing himself in a fit of anger, that was probably caused by the content of Marvin's email.


"Calm down, Brian, let me help you look for it," Justin said. He took a closer look around the work area, browsing through some papers Brian left on his desk, but to no avail.


"I guess I have no choice but to call Clair and let her know I lost the damn letter," Brian hissed. "The bitch will have a field day, telling me off for being an irresponsible jerk of a brother."


"Would you stop being such a drama queen?" Justin had to intervene. "You don't even know what the letter is about. For all you know, this has something to do with your dad, which understandably sucks and not in a life-affirming way. But don't worry, whatever it is we'll get through it together."


Brian took a deep breath, and wrapped his arms around Justin's neck. They stood together for a couple more minutes, until Brian dropped his arms from Justin's neck, and started brushing his fingers along Justin's lower back, cupping the perfectly rounded globes of his ass. "What's that?' He suddenly whispered, his fingers digging inside the back pocket of Justin's jeans.


"Why the fuck was the letter in the back pocket of your pants, Sunshine?" Brian asked with a raised eyebrow.


Justin shrugged, as he smiled knowinly at Brian. "I guess I left it there just in case, since you seemed not to give a fuck about it," he said.


"Give it to me. Let's see what the old bastard wanted and why the hell it’s Mr. Telson's business," Brian pressed.


"Wouldn't you prefer to get to the office first?" Justin suggested.


"No!" Brian barked. "Give me the damn thing."


"Here you go," Justin said, handing the envelope to Brian.

Chapter 1<\/span><\/b>





"What is this place again?" Justin asks, as he follows Brian into a bleak bare area, that looks like an abandoned parking garage.


"Fuck if I know, but Clair just wouldn't stop nagging me to get here," Brian huffs absently, checking his iPhone, while trying not to trip on the broken asphalt in the dark.


Justin didn't have a clue what was going on but he sensed that Brian was getting even more anxious, so he kept walking beside him in silence. They kept walking for what seemed to be another twenty minutes in total darkness, with nothing but the flash light in Brian's phone to guide them.


"Thank you for doing this for me." Brian said softly as he acknowledged Justin’s presence.


Justin walked closer to Brian, snaking his hand inside Brian's. Although they were both wearing their heavy winter coats, gloves and scarves, Justin couldn't help but notice Brian was literally shaking when he held him.


"I think this is it," Brian said.


"Where the hell are we?" Justin muttered.


"My guess is Altoona," Brian huffed dryly.


"You're joking, right?" Justin replied, partly annoyed but at the same time trying to cut the tension.


Justin picked up right away on Brian's reference. He was reminded of that one time he and Brian had travelled all the way there to find a decent place to fuck, since all the back rooms were closing down. All they were able to find, was a large trailer that wasn't even half as accommodating as the back room at Babylon. The only good thing about it, was that they decided to go back to the loft, and fuck in the privacy and climate controlled comfort of Brian's bed.


"Fuck!" Brian's angry voice brought Justin back to the moment.


"What is it, Brian?" He asked, peering over his partner's shoulder.


"That seems to be a storage unit," Brian answered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he clicked on his phone, and waited to be answered.


"What took you so long?" He barked into the receiver.


He listened to the person on the other end of the line for a couple more minutes, then closed his phone.


"Clair is on her way here," he informed Justin.


"Don't worry, I'm here for you," Justin said softly, wrapping his arms around Brian's waist.

"Do you think it's a fucking escape room adventure?" Brian huffed bitterly as Clair, his sister approached from behind them. Despite the darkness, Justin could clearly detect traces of anger across Brian's beautiful face.


"I'm not in the mood for jokes, Brian," Clair answered impatiently.


Brian clenched his teeth and raised an eyebrow, before he dared to look at his sister. “This is NOT a joke. Why'd you tell me to drive all the way here?" He lashed out.
"I think you know why," Clair sneered.


"Listen to me, Clair, are you listening?" Brian turned to Clair, his voice ragged with anger and hurt. "I know you think you were the only one who took care of him,<\/i> while he was going through all his shitty drunken bullshit. I know you think I was nothing but a fucking asshole, who didn't care about him or her<\/i> or any of you. I know you all thought I was nothing but a cold-hearted jerk, who ran away from all of you the moment he had a chance to do it. And you know what? I don't give a fuck what any of you, especially him<\/i> thought about me but it's over. I've moved on from that. The fucking bastard ruined my childhood, and she… she told me I'm going to hell…" Brian's words trailed off, as he turned away from Clair to seek comfort in Justin's warm embrace.


Clair kept standing there, stony faced, her arms crossed over her chest.


"What's HE doing here?" she muttered sharply, pointing at Justin.


Brian's eyes turned deep amber as he folded his lips inward.


"He's got a name in case you didn't know. Justin, this is Clair. Clair, this is Justin, my partner," Brian introduced them briefly.


"I know who he is," Clair said in a flat voice.


"Well then, why'd you ask?" Brian snapped again.


"I've had a long day so cut the small talk, Brian.  Do you want to know why I brought you here or not?" Clair then turned to Brian again. She put her hand in her coat's pocket. She pulled out  a packet of cigarettes, a lighter and a crumpled envelope.


"Here, take a look at that," she said in a sharp voice.


She handed Brian the envelope. Then she put one cigarette in her mouth and lit it, taking a long drag of smoke and puffing it out.


"Bruckner and Marcus Attorney at Law?"  Brian seemed puzzled as he read the letterhead on the envelope. "What the fuck's this?"


"Don't play dumb with me, Brian. I bet you know damn well what it means," Clair snapped.


"The old bastard wrote a will<\/i>? What a joke!" Brian let out a dry huff. "Fuck, he  didn't have a penny to his name, If anything, he kept coming to me, asking me<\/i> for money each time he needed to cover his ass for  his gambling debts and drinking problems." Brian stopped for a breather. "But I bet he never told you or mommy dearest about it, did he?"


Clair didn't answer. She kept standing in silence, trying to get a few last drags out of her cigarette.


"Okay, I've had enough of this. I don't want anything from him, and I definitely don't want to open that fucking storage unit to go over his crap. The only thing I ever took from him was a lousy bowling shirt, and his fucking bowling ball, which, for your information, I threw into a ditch the night he died. If you want I can send you the shirt as well. Hit the road, Jack, you fucking bastard!" he hissed. "Come on, Justin, let's get the hell out of here and not a moment too soon." He turned to speak to Justin who stood by the storage unit, curled in his coat.


"Wait," Clair said. She threw the cigarette butt on the asphalt, and smashed it with the front of her boot, then turned to face Brian.


 "I think I've heard enough!" came the sudden response from Brian.


"I don't give a damn about all this crap… hell, I don't give a shit about them<\/i> any more than you do, Brian, but I thought I should bring you here to give you that letter. I think you better open the envelope and read it. Now," Clair said in a disjointed annoyed voice.
