Happy December Capitalist Holiday to you all!
My Christmas present to you is this: Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodyne Episode 38, being released on the actual 40th anniversary of the episode’s airing! This episode is tons of fun. Sure, it drops the holiday theme about halfway through, but it’s got all of the things that make Kyodyne and 70’s Toku so fun: crazy editing, wacky yet serious plots, and plenty of action. Head to the Releases Page, and check it out!

Despite this show having Toei Channel Japanese captions, I probably won’t sub the whole show for now, simply due to a lack of raws. I found DVD ISOs for Kyodyne, and I ripped this one episode from them. The DVD ISOs are re-encoded DVD5 discs, so the video quality isn’t the best. Ripping Toku shows from DVD is Bunny Hat Raws’ job, not mine!
I’d like to take some time to reflect on the past year. 2016 was a garbage year for pretty much everyone, but Toku fansubbing has seen some wonderful growth! Just in terms of Metal Hero, Millionfold Curiosity started and finished Gavan, Megabeast Empire finally finished Juspion, and Weeaboo Shogun finished Winspector and is now working on Solbrain! The X-Rider curse has finally been lifted by The Masked Subbers, and XIG completed Super-1!
When I finished Bycrosser, the response made me so grateful that there are people who want to see this stuff. The warm response and feedback is what keeps me going. And keep going I shall, because I have things on the docket for 2017!
If you recall, my second-ever release back in 2014 was the first episode of a little-known Nikkatsu series called Dengeki!! Strada 5. Since then, I found the whole show on DVD on Mandarake, and pestered FortMax to encode it for me. Now that I have the show in raw, I can finish it. Since there are no captions, and I can’t possibly translate it by ear, I am commissioning a translator to work on it. This means that episodes will come far slower than they did for Bycrosser, because I don’t have unlimited money.
My other project for 2017 will come slightly faster: Toei’s Choukou Senshi Changerion! Bunny Hat released 60fps raws back in January 2015, and Toei Channel aired the show with captions from January to April 2016. Episodes will likely be released 2-at-a-time, much like Bycrosser. It’s a wacky little show (co-produced by Sega, of all companies) from 1996, and it is often called the prototype for Heisei Era Kamen Rider. So keep your eyes peeled for that!
So have a very merry holiday season, a happy New Year, and I’ll see you next in 2017!
