Tourism is a significant segment of development policy at the national level, and it is important... more Tourism is a significant segment of development policy at the national level, and it is important in terms of contributing to the Gross domestic product (GDP) diversifying of economy, reducing disparities between regions, fostering development capital, and promoting regional development. Tourism greatly contributes to the sustainable development of a region and a unit of local self-government, in an environment where sometimes there are no other alternatives for achieving that goal. Theories of regional development and tourism have evolved over a similar period after the Second World War. The concept of regional development has undergone a significant transformation through various theories. The paper analyzes the main principles of the theory of endogenous regional development and the possibility of its application for tourism research as a development factor. Tourism development policy is often created by the views of these theories. The purpose of this paper is to indicate, based on the analysis of modern ideas and approaches to regional development, whether they are suitable for the study of tourism and which factors are decisive in achieving its development function. The paper points out certain elements of theories that can individually or together represent the theoretical basis for tourism development planning in regions and local government units.

Iako je tema veoma aktuelna u poslednjim decenijama, a istraživanjima su odavno utvrđeni uzroci i posledice depopulacije brojnih regija u Evropi, čini se da ne postoje sistematski pristupi u sprovođenju politike upravljanja napuštenim prostorima. Pošli smo od već poznatih faktora koji doprinose depopulaciji obuhvatajući ekonomsku, socijalnu i ekološku dimenziju. Oslanjajući se na prethodna istraživanja, istorijske trendove i statističku bazu podataka pokušali smo da kroz novu, kvantitativnu metodologiju za grupisanje napuštenih prostora u klastere kao osnovne jedinice širenja depopulacionog prostora, predstavimo depopulaciju kao prostorni proces koji ima svoju veličinu, strukturu i posledice. Cilj rada je bilo kvantitativno utvrđivanje veličine i strukture depopulacionog prostora u Srbiji nakon popisa 2022. godine. Istraživanjem su otvorena i nova polja istraživanja korišćenja depopulacionog prostora u budućnosti, ali i ponuđena izvesna rešenja kreatorima politike, istraživačima i zajednicama koje se bore sa izazovima depopulacije. Rezultati rada ukazuju na postojanje 47 napuštenih klastera u 10 administrativnih oblasti Srbije, što je za 17 više u odnosu na Popis 2011. godine. Utvrđena je dalja homogenizacija i ukrupnjavanje klastera u Topličkoj, Zaječarskoj, Jablaničkoj, Pirotskoj i Raškoj oblasti, odnosno povećanje ukupne depopulacione teritorije kao i njeno prostorno širenje ka severu države.
Our study analyzes the transition period of Serbia from a centrally planned to a market economy w... more Our study analyzes the transition period of Serbia from a centrally planned to a market economy with a special view to the political, social and economic conditions during the 1990s, and the economic circumstances after the 'democratic revolution' through the inflow of FDI, GDP, GDP per capita, GDP growth rate, exports, imports, trade balance, and unemployment rate. The economic decline in the 1990s was a consequence of war, international sanctions and mismanagement of economic policy. Serbia witnessed one of the greatest hyperinflations in modern history. With the purpose of creating the conditions for an inflow of FDI, economic reforms started in 2000 in Serbia. Since the 'democratic revolution', most FDI has entered the sector of non-exchangeable goods. That has had negative effects on Serbia from the development viewpoint, since the country needs FDI to the sector of exchangeable goods, as they encourage productivity and technological progress. Foreign investors to Serbia were primarily interested in profiting from the privatization of former state-owned companies. The benefits that Serbia has had from the inflow of FDI since 2000 relate to significant transfer of technology, enhancement of competition on the local market, the training of employees, etc.
The subject of this paper is to identify the most suitable location for the installation of solar... more The subject of this paper is to identify the most suitable location for the installation of solar panel power plant in the Municipality of Knjaževac (East Serbia). Digital elevation model (DEM) of the area of interest was constructed using Geomedia Pro Grid module. The potential insolation of municipality was determined using the obtained DEM for the summer and winter solstice which represents longest and shortest day in a year (June 21st and December 21st, 2015), which allowed calculating the mean annual potential insolation. Six classes of land use were identified using multispectral analysis of Landsat 8 satellite images. Three best locations for the solar panel installation were identified by multi-criteria AHP analysis using mean potential insolation, mean cloudiness for corresponding months, mean temperature, grade and aspect, land use classes and simplicity of availability of the locations. The obtained data indicate that the use of solar radiation in Knjaževac municipality is economically feasible as a supplementary source of energy.

The goal of the paper is to consider as widely as possible the options that could contribute to the sustainability of these galleries. Numerous field observations, complex research of the literature as well as other available sources, and interviews with visitors to the fortress were necessary for this goal to be achieved. The paper has special historical and practical significance. On the one hand, it represents a record in time concerning the condition of the Petrovaradin Fortress. Our research focuses on the problems of modern spatial, social and economic marginalization of th... more Our research focuses on the problems of modern spatial, social and economic marginalization of the Belgrade slum population, as well as on the measures of improving the living conditions in them. The slums on the territory of Belgrade are numerous, dispersed, heterogeneous in structure, size and type, and the common denominator that could express the typical situation is poverty of their population. The paper also included an analysis of the causes of the spatial concentration of slums, the increase in population, exclusion of the population, poverty and the attitudes of the Belgrade population toward these settlements and their inhabitants. A significant part of the paper refers to the main life problems of the Roma, but of the Ashkali and Egyptians as well, who mostly inhabit the slums (unemployment, illiteracy, begging, poor housing conditions, health problems etc.). Measures for improving the living conditions in Belgrade slums, aiming at the integration of their inhabitants into the spatial and social space of Belgrade are proposed in the final part of the paper.

It affects the temporal arrangement and spatial distribution of tourists throughout the year. It determines the context of the environment in which the activities of tourists take place and represents the tourism resources. It is important for the planning and construction of tourism facilities and infrastructure, as well as the organization of tourism activities. This paper presents the tourism climatic index as a bioclimatic indicator for determining the conditions suitable for recreational tourism throughout the year. Research results according to the case study indicate the comparative advantages and also the lack of climate as the resource in tourism of Montenegro. There is an apparent underutilization of periods with climate conditions that work in favour of recreational forms of tourism. The uneven spatial and temporal arrangement of suitable climatic conditions in the tourist centres is the factor of the formation of seasonality of tourism trends. However, the results of linear correlation of tourism climatic index and monthly visits point to the incompatibility of potentials with capacity utilization.

In order to connect climate changes with agricultural, biological, socio-economic and tourism databases, the paper deals with the dynamic analysis of changes in thermal component expressed through the values of regional climate indices in four climatological stations with different geographical positions in Serbia. The task of the paper is to show the positive and negative consequences that resulted from the pandemic. This would indicate that some of them may represent a new idea, a chance, or would work in favor of the sustainability of the villages of Serbia. In support of objectivity, research was carried out among the population that inhabits the rural areas of Serbia. It examined the extent to which internationally recognized phenomena and consequences of the COVID-19 virus pandemic were present in the study area and considered the nature of their impact on sustainability. Poverty represents a complex social problem that can not be analyzed only by indicators such as GDP per capita, which is the most common indicator, but in combination with other indicators, which give a more realistic picture of the dimension and the extent of poverty in the world and in Serbia. The paper points to causes of poverty, geographical distribution, social distribution and the consequences it has for the individual and society as a whole. The important issue that the authors analyze is the correlation between poverty and global trends that are the result of international economic relations and the level of development. The paper raises the question of whether and to what extent globalization impacts on poverty and whether economic growth is suffi cient means to reduce poverty.
The production and use of artificial snow has become necessary in most ski centres in Europe. The... more The production and use of artificial snow has become necessary in most ski centres in Europe. The lack of snow creates problems in ski centres that were built without the prior valuation of natural factors. The survey covered winter tourist centres in Serbia, which are facing problems due to the shortening of the tourist season caused by the lack of snow cover on the ski slopes. The duration of the snow cover is the result of several factors. Air temperature changes were analysed in mountain tourist centres in Serbia, as well as at undeveloped destinations with a potential for snow sports. On the basis of the quantitative indicators of the air temperature and the methodology by means of which snowmaking is carried out, the time periods during the year for making artificial snow are presented. Due to the forecast rise in air temperature, the issue of profitability of artificial snow in the ski centres of Serbia remains open.

У раду је анализиран етнокултурни диверзитет савременог становништва Канаде. Имиграција је дала специфично обележје овој земљи, а сваки нови усељенички талас је придонео њеној етничкој и културној разноликости. Основу данашњег канадског расног и етничког диверзитета чине групе које се разликују по својим обележјима: белци европског порекла (углавном британског и француског), тзв. видљиве мањине и домородачко становништво. Канада се традиционално сматра земљом у којој је мултикултурализам остварио најбоље резултате у интеграцији миграната. И поред несумњиво великих резултата, изражен је раскорак између службених политика интеграције и друштвеног искључивања нових имиграната, пре свега видљивих мањина, из привредне сфере и јавног живота уопште. Предрасуде и дискриминација су и даље реалност за неке мањинске групе, као и нижи животни стандард видљивих мањина, нових усељеника и домородачких народа. Иако мултикултурализам нема озбиљну алтернативу у канадском друштву, полемике око његових стварних ефеката и циљева, однос према Франкоканађанима и домородачким народима, растући страх од исламског екстремизма и осећај угрожености европских вредности, остављају простор и за другачија мишљења. Among the priority areas of the tourism strategy are high mountain areas with complex ecosystems. Mountain tourism in Serbia, as well as continental country is one of the leading forms of tourism through various projects stimulated by the state. In the last ten years, build up and expand the ski slopes of Stara planina in eastern Serbia, leading to various, mostly negative changes in the environment. This paper analyzes the changes in the forest areas of the site Babin Zub in years 2000 and 2013, using satellite imagery (Landsat 7 and Landsat 8) and remote sensing software. We used unsupervised multispectral analysis resolution 30 m and obtained data on forest areas. The aim is to draw attention to the change of vegetation cover and degradation of forest areas. Following to the experiences of the world's ski resorts, the paper presents the opportunities and examples of restoration of ski runs, and sustainable forest management in the studied highland area.

It affects the temporal arrangement and spatial distribution of tourists throughout the year. It determines the context of the environment in which the activities of tourists take place and represents the tourism resources. It is important for the planning and construction of tourism facilities and infrastructure, as well as the organization of tourism activities. This paper presents the tourism climatic index as a bioclimatic indicator for determining the conditions suitable for recreational tourism throughout the year. Research results according to the case study indicate the comparative advantages and also the lack of climate as the resource in tourism of Montenegro. There is an apparent underutilization of periods with climate conditions that work in favour of recreational forms of tourism. The uneven spatial and temporal arrangement of suitable climatic conditions in the tourist centres is the factor of the formation of seasonality of tourism trends. However, the results of linear correlation of tourism climatic index and monthly visits point to the incompatibility of potentials with capacity utilization.

On the other hand, the selection of representative and relevant stations and comprehensive analysis of climate indicators lead to better and more exact assessments on climate changes at the regional level. In order to connect climate changes with agricultural, biological, socio-economic and tourism databases, the paper deals with the dynamic analysis of changes in thermal component expressed through the values of regional climate indices in four climatological stations with different geographical positions in Serbia. The task of the paper is to show the positive and negative consequences that resulted from the pandemic. This would indicate that some of them may represent a new idea, a chance, or would work in favor of the sustainability of the villages of Serbia. In support of objectivity, research was carried out among the population that inhabits the rural areas of Serbia. It examined the extent to which internationally recognized phenomena and consequences of the COVID-19 virus pandemic were present in the study area and considered the nature of their impact on sustainability. Poverty represents a complex social problem that can not be analyzed only by indicators such as GDP per capita, which is the most common indicator, but in combination with other indicators, which give a more realistic picture of the dimension and the extent of poverty in the world and in Serbia. The paper points to causes of poverty, geographical distribution, social distribution and the consequences it has for the individual and society as a whole. The important issue that the authors analyze is the correlation between poverty and global trends that are the result of international economic relations and the level of development. The paper raises the question of whether and to what extent globalization impacts on poverty and whether economic growth is suffi cient means to reduce poverty.

The lack of snow creates problems in ski centres that were built without the prior valuation of natural factors. The survey covered winter tourist centres in Serbia, which are facing problems due to the shortening of the tourist season caused by the lack of snow cover on the ski slopes. The duration of the snow cover is the result of several factors. Air temperature changes were analysed in mountain tourist centres in Serbia, as well as at undeveloped destinations with a potential for snow sports. On the basis of the quantitative indicators of the air temperature and the methodology by means of which snowmaking is carried out, the time periods during the year for making artificial snow are presented. Due to the forecast rise in air temperature, the issue of profitability of artificial snow in the ski centres of Serbia remains open.

У раду је анализиран етнокултурни диверзитет савременог становништва Канаде. Имиграција је дала специфично обележје овој земљи, а сваки нови усељенички талас је придонео њеној етничкој и културној разноликости. Основу данашњег канадског расног и етничког диверзитета чине групе које се разликују по својим обележјима: белци европског порекла (углавном британског и француског), тзв. видљиве мањине и домородачко становништво. Канада се традиционално сматра земљом у којој је мултикултурализам остварио најбоље резултате у интеграцији миграната. И поред несумњиво великих резултата, изражен је раскорак између службених политика интеграције и друштвеног искључивања нових имиграната, пре свега видљивих мањина, из привредне сфере и јавног живота уопште. Предрасуде и дискриминација су и даље реалност за неке мањинске групе, као и нижи животни стандард видљивих мањина, нових усељеника и домородачких народа. Иако мултикултурализам нема озбиљну алтернативу у канадском друштву, полемике око његових стварних ефеката и циљева, однос према Франкоканађанима и домородачким народима, растући страх од исламског екстремизма и осећај угрожености европских вредности, остављају простор и за другачија мишљења. Among the priority areas of the tourism strategy are high mountain areas with complex ecosystems. Mountain tourism in Serbia, as well as continental country is one of the leading forms of tourism through various projects stimulated by the state. In the last ten years, build up and expand the ski slopes of Stara planina in eastern Serbia, leading to various, mostly negative changes in the environment. This paper analyzes the changes in the forest areas of the site Babin Zub in years 2000 and 2013, using satellite imagery (Landsat 7 and Landsat 8) and remote sensing software. We used unsupervised multispectral analysis resolution 30 m and obtained data on forest areas. The aim is to draw attention to the change of vegetation cover and degradation of forest areas. Following to the experiences of the world's ski resorts, the paper presents the opportunities and examples of restoration of ski runs, and sustainable forest management in the studied highland area.

The Petrovaradin Fortress was presented within the working group Underground Built Heritage Reuse and Valorisation Strategies on the COST action Underground4value as a good example of tourist valorised underground cultural heritage in Serbia. The goal of the paper is to consider as widely as possible the options that could contribute to the sustainability of these galleries. Numerous field observations, complex research of the literature as well as other available sources, and interviews with visitors to the fortress were necessary for this goal to be achieved.
