Prof.Samanga Amarasinghe is a native of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Influenced by his late father Dr. Y. During his high school years, Amarasinghe earned his first diploma in Computer Studies in 1994, from Sri Lanka’s top Information Technology School of the time, IDM Computer Studies while still in high school, making him one among the youngest IT specialist of the time. Following his graduation from Trinity College Kandy, Amarasinghe entered the Sri Lankan job market as a Hardware Software Engineer, and then held the title of a Computer lecturer at various academic institutions including the American College of Higher education.
After living and working in Sri Lanka, Amarasinghe traveled back to the U.S. where he enrolled at Bellevue University in 2000. He completed a bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Computer Information Systems. In addition, he earned a Master of Arts in Leadership, graduating with highest honors. Having a passion for leadership Amarasinghe earned several accolades as an international student during his University Years - most notably his election as the first international student to be the President of a student union. He also served as Chapter president of the Pi Gamma Mu International Social Science Honors society.
Amarasinghe became a published author while completing his master’s degree program. His book titled, “Independence to Freedom,” was the culmination of his extensive research of Sri Lanka's pre and post-colonial leadership and ethnic separatism. The book addresses the evolution of Sri Lanka's past leaderships and various political blunders that lead to the 26-year ethnic conflict that crippled the nation.
Inspired by the changes of 21st century geopolitics, especially in the Middle East, Amarasinghe began extensive study on the United States’ involvement and its impact. He presented at the National Leadership Conference in 2003 held in Denver Colorado, prompting continuing research and presentations on various topics pertaining to American foreign policies. Much of this is captured in his most recent publication, “American National Security and Foreign Policy: An International Perspective”.
At present Amarasinghe resides in the United States occupied as Information Technology Services Department manager and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Information technology for Bellevue University while working on his third publication. His favorite past times include international traveling, conducting multi-disciplinary research on various topics – including such personal favorites as Archeology, Political Science, Sri Lankan History.
