io9 on how Elementary gets it right.

Elementary has gotten some flak for being the "lesser" modern-day Sherlock Holmes. But now that its first season is over, we're realizing this show understands the Arthur Conan Doyle canon — it's just not afraid to ask questions. Here's why Elementary is the Sherlock Holmes we never knew we always needed.

Warning: Spoilers for season one ahead!

The husband and I watched the premiere of "Elementary" this morning. In case you're unaware, this is the new US Sherlock Holmes series staring Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. I had strong objections to this show, as it was so obviously capitalizing on the success of "Sherlock". I might have given it a pass altogether if not for the husband, who wanted to see it.

I liked it. A lot. We both did. It's not a carbon copy of "Sherlock", and it's also not just another crime procedural. Obviously this is just one episode, and I haven't given up on the idea that it could still go terribly wrong, but so far it does not suck. Also Aidan Quinn = love. So if you're wondering about it, and holding back because of the same preconceived notions that I had, give it a try. And let me know what you think.
