BLACK DONORS
SAVE LIVES
Black patients face disparities in accessing stem cell donors
due to underrepresentation in stem cell registries.
About us
Black Donors Save Lives is a federal nonprofit organization that works to address racial disparity in blood, stem cell, and organ and tissue donor pools impacting patients from African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities.
We partner with ACB communities to address donation inequities, promote health equity in policies, and dismantle structural barriers.
We train healthcare professionals and students to recognize and address racial disparities in donor pools and barriers affecting ACB communities.
We run donor recruitment campaigns with Black groups to overcome barriers and engage ACB people, ensuring they have access to optimal donation products.
Patients with blood cancers may require a stem cell transplantation as part of their treatment. Patients are more likely to find a match from within their own ancestral group, but Black donors are underrepresented on Canadian and global stem cell registries.
