However, it can be difficult to encourage students to engage in the process. Educators face the challenge of how to facilitate the development of this skill, within the context of globalisation, student diversity and employability.

or department. In reality, some areas of the business’s use of IT are more mature than others, and this is particularly true of companies that have undergone recent mergers or acquisitions.
The Stages of Growth Model for IT systems was developed by Richard L. Nolan in the 1970s. Though modified over time and subject to criticism in some quarters, it is still used to discuss the growth of IT within an organisation and is used by many companies and consultants to categorise the evolution of what was originally known as data processing departments.
In this article, the six (originally four) stages are discussed, along with their direct relevance to the IS auditor. Nolan’s theory can provide
a useful framework for an audit engagement, especially for the less-experienced auditor who may not have had extensive exposure to a wide range of IT organisational systems.

The literature review focused on the development of vocational higher education and the historical development of virtual environments. Desk-based research evaluated various frameworks used for the evaluation of technology enhanced learning. Primary research was carried out in the form of semi-structured interviews with three independent users of Shareville. A number of aspects in the development and use of Shareville were identified which may be of benefit to others who are developing virtual environments. The specific aspect of the cost of developing virtual environments is also explored -concerns by the developer and content providers of the time and cost taken to develop rich video resources may be mitigated by considering the project over the longer time period which the resources are going to exist.

The additional support needed by these students is counterbalanced by the significant income that they provide to the institution.

It provides the opportunity to evaluate experience and synthesise ideas for learning, as well as personal and professional development. A key challenge for educators is how to encourage students to engage in reflective practice. Blogs have achieved widespread acceptance in society and this provides the opportunity to use blogs in education to encourage student engagement ...

The literature re- view notes that motivation can come either from intrinsic or extrinsic factors. Primary research support this view, and whilst the literature states that external factors are the primary drivers to many students, intrinsic factors have substantial value to the interviewees within this study. The research notes that internal motivation is a factor that may require consideration when professional doctorate programmes are promoted.
