The effects of bispyribac sodium 10% SC and butachlor 50% SC on soil physico-chemical properties ... more The effects of bispyribac sodium 10% SC and butachlor 50% SC on soil physico-chemical properties and microflora in transplanted kharif rice were investigated over two seasons (2010 and 2011). Effects of the herbicide on bulk density, water holding capacity, moisture content, soil pH, organic matter content, electrical conductivity, as well as total nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium contents were analyzed along with microflora population (total bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi). No significant changes in soil physico-chemical properties were observed. Herbicide treatments resulted in decreases in microbial counts initially. With the degradation of applied herbicides within a considerable time, the microflora populations even exceeded the initial count at 60 d after application of the herbicide.

Higher dose of atrazine @ 4.0 kg ha-1 recorded better weed control efficiency (84.51, 81.74 and 78.94 %, respectively at 10, 35 and 60 DAA). All the treatments of weed control gave the significantly higher cane yield over the control. The data on cane yield revealed that highest cane yield was recorded where the Atrazine 50 % WP @ 4.0 kg ha-1 was applied as pre-emergence but it was at par in case of lower dose of atrazine 50 % WP @ 2.0 kg ha-1 followed by ametryn 80%[email protected] a.i. ha-1 .Weed management treatments recorded no significant variation on brix %, sugar % and CCS%. All the herbicide treatments recorded detrimental effect on soil microflora (total bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi) immediately after application but after their persistence period, their populations were recovered and sometimes exceeds than their initial count.

Weed flora in soybean consisted of Echinochloa colonum, Eleusine indica, Dactyloctanium aegyptium, Digitaria sanguinalis, Cyperus rotundus, Euphorbia hirta, Digera arvensis, Physalis minima, Phylanthus niruri, Alternanthera philoxeroides, and Amaranthus viridis. All weed control treatments significantly decreased population of grass, sedge and broadleaf weeds and their dry weights over untreated control. No phytotoxic symptoms such as epinasty / hyponasty, leaf yellowing, necrosis, stunting growth, wilting etc. were exhibited. Considering the Net Production Value (NPV) it can be concluded that the treatment UPH-203 @ 100.0 g ha -1 + Na-Acifluorfen 10 % SL @ 206.2 g ha -1 was the best among all the treatments used in this experiment. Though twice hand weeding treatment recorded highest yield but it failed to obtain most profitable result in respect to NPV due to higher cost of cultivation particularly labour wages.

After kharif (rainy) rice, onion and greengram were grown during rabi (winter) and pre-kharif (premonsoon) season, respectively. The biomass of weeds were composted and incorporated into the soil. Significantly maximum system pooled yield (24.395t ha -1 ) was recorded in the treatment Parthenium and Calotropis leaf extract @ 5 % v/v at 1 DAS / DAT + HW at 21 DAS / DAT (W 2 ) and it was statistically at par with farmer practice (23.780t ha -1 ). The system yield of the plots receiving W 2 treatments were recorded 17.57 % higher than farmer practice. The maximum system yield was (25.679 t ha -1 pooled data) registered under 40 % recommended N + 20 % N through neemcake + 40 % N through weed compost + full PK (N 6 ) which was found statistically at par with 50 % recommended N + 20 % N through neemcake + 30% N through weed compost + full PK (N 5 ). The percentage increase in system yield in the plots receiving N 6 and N 5 was 25.00 % and 22.47%, respectively higher over that receiving 100 % recommended NPK (N 1 ). Nitrogen balance was positive under all treatments of weed management ranging from 90.15 to 195.44kg ha -1 after completion of two cropping cycles. Only negative balance was recorded in case of N 1 (-123.28kg ha -1 ). Maximum N balance was recorded in case of N 6 (+335.20) which was followed by N 5 (+253.26 kg ha -1 ), N 4 (+198.40kg ha -1 ) and N 3 (+132.45kg ha -1 ).

However, Chlorimuron Ethyl 25% WP@ 6.0, 9.0 and 12.0 g.a.i. ha-1 and Kloben @ 6g a.i. ha-1 were statistically at par with each other.
