I’m trying to follow https://codex.bbpress.org/step-by-step-guide-to-setting-up-a-bbpress-forum/ step 6, and every time I make a “forums page” the permalink becomes “forums-2” and I can’t edit it to just “forums”, like there’s already a link with that “forums” even though I don’t have a “forums” page already.

When I delete the forums-related pages, the mydomain.com/forums is still there.

I tried the method 2 from the codex, but I do not like it as the Home > forums is there and when I click on forums, it takes me to a blank page.

How do I fix this permalink issue?

You do not really need to create a page for the forum archive, just create a custom link menu item.

But from what you are getting with -2 being displayed for the page, you already have a page with that /forums slug in the Pages section of your WordPress site. It could a page you already created in the Trash.
