Bauer Types brings together typographic heritage, design practice, historical research, digital development and the experience required to run an independent type foundry. Together, these perspectives support the evolution of its typefaces and ensure that a rich typographic legacy continues to grow in contemporary contexts.

Wolfgang Hartmann

President & Owner

Wolfgang Hartmann studied Law and Economics in Geneva, Munich and Frankfurt. He was assistant to the CEO of Bauersche Giesserei (1959–1963) and later CEO of Fundición Tipográfica Neufville. He initiated Bauer Types, leading the transition to digital fonts and continuing the family’s typographic legacy into its fourth generation.

He served on the board of ATypI (1964–2002), as Vice President (1995–2002), and organized the Barcelona congresses in 1972 and 1995. He is Senator of the Gutenberg Museum and the Museo de la Imprenta in Valencia. His favorite typeface is Folio, for its legibility and elegance.

 

Vivian Hartmann

CEO

Vivian Hartmann holds a degree in Business and Economics and an MBA from IESE Business School.
Her mission is clear: to renew the typographic legacy of the Bauersche Giesserei and Neufville, grounded in excellence, technical guidance, and the highest quality standards across every aspect of typographic service.

Her favorite typeface is Futura, which she admires for its pure expression of geometric design and timeless elegance. She feels especially proud to share the same birthday as its designer, Paul Renner, and to have been born in the same year Futura reached the Moon with the Apollo astronauts.

Cristina de Mata

CFO|Chief Financial Officer

Cristina de Mata holds a degree in Law, and ever since her university studies she has been drawn to everything related to letters, as a great enthusiast of reading.

Her legal and financial expertise contributes to the company’s solid growth. Her favorite typeface in the current Bauer catalogue is Futura Bold Condensed Oblique for its elegance and strength at the same time.

Aurelio Sánchez

Creative Director & Type Advisor

Aurelio Sánchez is an art historian and graphic designer with deep expertise in branding focused on the intersection of history, technology and contemporary typography.

As Creative Director and Type Advisor, leads the creative direction of Bauer Types, shaping the direction of its typefaces, projects and collaborations. His favorite font from the current Bauer catalogue is Futura Black.

Carmen Galán

Digital Director & Marketing

Carmen Galán comes from a background in graphic arts and editorial publishing, later specializing in digital design and technology.

As Director of Digital and Marketing her many years of experience as a senior web and software designer, contributes on expanding the foundry’s digital presence and connecting Bauer Types typefaces with designers, brands and institutions worldwide. Her favorite font from the current Bauer catalogue is Elizabeth.

ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to typography and typeface design. Its annual conference has taken place every year since 1957.

International Gutenberg Society

The International Gutenberg Society is an international association for the past and present History of the Art of Printing and font oriented media. The Society was founded on 23 June 1901, and is one of the most traditional scientific societies in Mainz.

FAD Association of Graphic Design and Visual Communication

The ADG-FAD is a non-profit organization based in Barcelona that brings together graphic design and visual communication professionals. Founded in 1961, it promotes excellence, dialogue, and innovation in contemporary design.
