This paper explores the limits and paradoxes of Chauvet's female characters in Love, Anger, M... more This paper explores the limits and paradoxes of Chauvet's female characters in Love, Anger, Madness. It argues that even if Chauvet in her novel, brings an "outsider-within" view of Haitian power relations, of the unequal structure of gender, class, and color relations, the characters never really offer alternatives to these hierarchical structures and the violence embedded in these relations.
