He was one of the early proponents of the audience reception theory and developed encoding/decoding model as an approach to textual analysis, with focus on the scope for negotiation and opposition on the part of the audience. Hall believes that the audience does not simply passively accept a text as the model took a look at ways in which audiences/readers make meaning from texts.

The realization that the various social media platforms that came with web 2.0 can be put to varieties of purpose, led to its adoption for electioneering campaigns and for other political activities. The youths were the early adopters of this technology which has shaped how opinions are formed in the Nigeria. This paper tries to x-ray the power play that ensue between different groups of elites referred to as influencers on social media while trying to win the views of the majority on issues of national concerns. The paper established that the influence of this new crop of opinion leaders extends beyond the social media shores as their followers, government and mass media rely on their activities for informed political analysis before taking major political decisions. The study was anchored on the Elite Pluralism theory which explains that despite the democratic nature of the social media, not the views of every Nigerian on social media that counts. There is a knowledge gap between the elites called social media influencers and their numerous followers that are mostly individuals with little knowledge of political issues. The paper equally contends that most times, the opinions emanating from the social media are not necessarily borne out of patriotism but for the perpetuation of political interests of a particular group who often engage the services of the social media influencers. The situation has resulted in majority of Nigerians on social media becoming inconsequential observers.

The study adopts the Theory of Selective Exposure. The study employed survey method in which Questionnaire was used to gather data. The population of the study is bankers with all the licensed commercial banks operating in South East Nigeria. The sample size is 500 respondents selected using simple random sampling approach. Descriptive statistics were employed for data analysis. Findings revealed that there is high awareness and exposure to cholesterol build-up wellness information. The study established poor knowledge of causes of cholesterol build-up, major sources of body cholesterol and cholesterol build-up controversies while knowledge of cholesterol build-up effects and control were average. Findings also revealed that internet/social media is their source of exposure and awareness to cholesterol build-up information.
