RESOURCES FOR EVERY STEP OF YOUR AVALANCHE EDUCATION JOURNEY

NEW TO THE BACKCOUNTRY?

It can be hard to know where to start! If that’s you, you’re not alone. It’s daunting to know what courses and gear are worth shelling out for, how
to meet backcountry partners, and even where to find the current avalanche forecast. Try starting here:

AVALANCHE AWARENESS

Knowing where to start can be the tricky part. Alongside our friends at CAIC and NWAC, we developed Avalanche Aware to help you get started with the basics and guide you with your next steps.

FIND YOUR LOCAL
FORECAST CENTER

One of the first things you’ll learn is how to read an avalanche forecast. Use avalanche.org to find your local avalanche center within the United States to start learning about the forecast in your area.

ONGOING EDUCATION

Been in the backcountry for awhile? Maybe it’s been a few years since you took a avalanche course, or maybe you haven’t gotten to it yet. When it comes to avalanche education, there’s always more you can learn.
