Last night was one of the nicest nights I've had in some time. There were no expectations, no worries, no nothing. Just four friends watching a silly movie, eating an amazing dinner, having validating and relieving conversation, and going (or staying) home happy. It reminds me that, despite what problems there are with different aspects of life -- and we discussed quite a few of those, too -- things can still be simple and fun. Thinking further on it, I do have more of those moments than I realise. Last night just kind of put it in perspective. I owe three big hugs.

I'm now running on good vibes and one of the best macchiatos I've had in a while. There's only a few "oldbies" at the kitty corner Starbucks, and because they're training new people on the bar, the macchiatos have been varying. Today was a good day, though. I will now spend the remainder of my workday sorting music. Booyah.

Thinking about the time frame (read: I am not going to bed at 2 AM on New Year's Eve Eve), the furniture moving might have to wait until Wednesday. A phone call may need to be made to Ed to see if he will help Lowell with those tasks. The painting is taking precedence, at least in my mind. It almost has to, since both of us are really needed for painting and I am gone from 8 AM to probably 7 or 8 PM tomorrow. Everyone is supposedly arriving post-five PM tomorrow evening for the yearly New Year's extravaganza Lowell and his friends have. I don't want everything to be perfect -- there's no way it can be -- nor do I want to micromanage everything (cough, Lowell, cough), but I would like people to be able to come in, get a feel for the house, and then get down to socialising, gaming, whatever. That would be hard if all the stuff on that list, plus set up, wasn't done. They probably will have to just deal with our setting up decorative stuff while they're there; Lowell's figurines, for example. The nerd room won't be done until I get home tomorrow, anyway, as I have to set up my desk and computer and such. But whatever. It will all work out, and we will have a good weekend. :)

Two more hours!

Last night was just what I needed on a variety of levels. I got quite a few quotes. I ate an amazing dinner. I got to spend time with wonderful people. This will have to tide me over as choral season starts and my schedule gets shot to shit. Blah.

I plan to ignore the fact that today is already kind of blah.

Aunt Trish goes in for surgery on her other knee later this month. A trip to Dallas may have to be in order. Still waiting on the confirm for that.

Today will be busy busy busy. I'm supposed to be doing something with Fr. Novick already, but haven't heard from him yet. I think I'll just have to march up there in about ten minutes whether I hear from him or not.

Oh, to have been productive today...was Fr. Novicked to the highest degree.

OMG MASSAGE

The right side of my body aches. I don't get it. It feels like I have pulled muscles in my right foot, hand, and hip. My legs hurt like a bitch, but I'm going to blame work for that, as I moved a lot more in the past three days than I usually do. I don't understand the other stuff. I didn't do anything extra strenuous to that side of my body. Blah!

I also don't understand the melancholy. Maybe it's the weather. We've had rainy, stormy, gloomy weather for about a week now. As much as I prefer weather like that (the sun and I don't get along), I think it's taking its toll. The humidity probably doesn't help either. I love Chicago, but Chicago summers can go to hell. From here on in, I'll summer in Siberia or something.

My plan for next weekend will not go off as planned. Our Sunday opener is out of town for the weekend, so they asked me to cover her shift. In doing so, they took me off Friday so that I had a day off from both jobs. While I appreciate that, I like working Fridays. And I had also been hoping to get a switch from the Sunday opener so I didn't have to work two jobs on Saturday, as I have a serving gig that day. I'll just have to get out of work at 3 on the 21st, run to Mom's and shower, and then head to the job. My "employer" for that job said that we should get out of the party around nine or so, but if they ask us to stay later, we are more than welcome to. I don't necessarily want to, but it's 20 USD an hour. Might as well reap the benefits. It's just going to be a very long day.

So Friday the 20th will now be a beach morning. Lord knows I need it.

Think I'll leave early today, since I need to hang around here late tomorrow. We'll see how that works out.

Had a nice lunch with Rick and Kendal after their arrival last night. We will be having dinner tonight at Connie's, along with Lowell and Aldwin. Should be fun stuff. ^^

1. Azumanga Daioh -- a silly anime/manga about a group of high school girls in Japan. It is hysterical madness. I need to read those again. Official anime website: Azumanga Daioh!

2. Baron Munchausen -- a film by the inestimable Terry Gilliam about the need for fantasy even in a scientific world. I wrote one of my senior papers on this film, actually. 3. Initial D -- anime/manga about street racing. Normally, I don't get into storylines like this, but something hooked me. I am far behind the manga in terms of updates, and will probably have to read from the beginning again to know what's going on. Wiki article on Initial D: Initial D!

4. JMAC -- stands for Japanese Media Appreciation Club. This is the anime/manga/etc club Lowell and I met through and founded together at our alma mater, DePaul University. 5. The El -- The nickname for our elevated train system here in Chicago. It has its faults, but it also has a huge cult following, if you can see a mode of transportation having such. There are several LJ communities devoted to The El, and it even has historians. I've read through one person's sort of biography of the El, and it's fascinating. 6. There She Is!! -- a song that inspired a flash video by a Korean artist. The Song is by The Witches, a K-rock band. The flash video is about a bunny who falls in love with a cat, and the merry chase they share. Video is here: There She Is!!

7. YRP -- Stands for Yuna, Rikku, Paine of Final Fantasy X-2 fame. I know the game is basically ignored by FF fans other than to mock it, but I really enjoyed playing it and had lots of fun. Plus, I really am a Yuna and Rikku fangirl, so it would make sense to enjoy the Charlie's Angels-esque trio. More info on the game itself can be found here: Final Fantasy X-2

-- This is a World of Warcraft icon, actually. I've heard this more than once running a random quest/instance/whatever with Lowell, since I play as a priest and our job is to heal. He thinks he's being funny, but he really isn't. XD

-- This was made by the Pendergasters community members. It's in honour of Special Agent Pendergast of the books written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. He's a perfect southern gentleman, but oh so much more. Preston and Child updated the character types of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to be Pendergast and a police officer named D'Agosta, respectively. It's very very hard to read about Pendergast and not fall in love with him.

-- This is Tasuki from the anime Fushigi Yuugi. The episode this is scanned from shows Tasuki getting drunk on sake and goofing with the cups and such as depicted here. What's even funnier about the whole thing is that he's actually in an illusion when that happens. Mwah ha ha! Tasuki is also my favourite character from that series, so it makes sense to have an icon of him.



The amount of work I put into doing this meme has inspired me to actually do work that I'm getting paid to do. So here I go!
