This paper was written in a Masters level New Testament course at Ave Maria University under Dr. ... more This paper was written in a Masters level New Testament course at Ave Maria University under Dr. Daniel Lendman. In this paper, I provide a four-stage analysis of the parable of the Good Shepherd. The first section of the analysis will be dedicated to placing the passage within its historical context, examining the cultural influences, authorship, and the role of shepherds during the time of Christ. The second section of the analysis will be devoted to a grammatical and rhetorical analysis of the parable of the good shepherd, providing the relevant grammatical, lexical, and rhetorical information for a more thorough understanding of the message of Christ and situating the passage into John’s Gospel. The third section of this analysis will fix the passage in its proper canonical, liturgical, and magisterial context, analyzing the passage in the whole of Scripture, its liturgical significance, and the way in which the teaching office of the Church employs this particular passage. The fourth and final section of this exegetical analysis is an interpretation of the passage according to the fourfold meaning of Scripture: the literal, allegorical, tropological, and analogical.

The Davidic covenant leads to the climax of the Old Testament narrative through the establishment of Jerusalem and the building of the Temple. Through the Davidic covenant, a partial fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenantal promise of a great name is fulfilled. However, the Davidic covenant, along with the rest of the Old Testament covenants, is most perfectly satisfied through the coming of the Son of God which is enigmatically foretold in the Davidic covenant. For the purposes of this paper, I will analyze the contents of the Davidic covenant while providing narrative context when necessary.

In the sacrament the accidental qualities of bread and wine remain to exist after the substance of bread and wine is converted into the body and blood. In this paper, I present the Thomistic approach to rectifying the perceived contradiction in the Eucharistic sacrament.
