Oh Diego, honey *cuddles him*
On the other hand: omg, if Diego comes too Wolfsburg I need to start watching Bundesliga *eek*
That'll be interesting.
[You, the hockey crowd, you can skip this. Yes, there's a reason I'm not employing filters, I mix too many things in my posts and anyway, you can only skip it because you've seen this before anyway!
ETA: Unlocked for the time being.]
And everyone who isn't into hockey, yes this is a hockey posts. Except it's not, it's a slash post.
Towards the beginning of the months this video showed up in
Meet Danny Briere and Claude Giroux. They're playing hockey for the Philadelphia Flyers. (How many of you know what that means? *g* Also keep in mind I like the Pens.)
Basically, Briere walked up to Giroux and asked "Hey do you want to move in with me and help me raise my three boys?" And Giroux moved from the fancy party part of Philly to the uh well, family area.
Yeah, the slash writes itself. Or one should think so.
Fast forward to this past weekend, which was NHL All Star Weekend.
Giroux and Briere played for different teams. Which really didn't matter all that much:
"Asked which of the housemates was more looking forward to the game, him or Giroux, Briere said: “Probably our three boys.”" From ALL-STAR GAME IS FAMILY AFFAIR FOR FLYERS’ DANNY BRIERE, CLAUDE GIROUX
Our three boys!!!!
Is this even subtext anymore? Because I don't think so.
Further, from the Puck Daddy column "What we learned":
"Philadelphia Flyers: Dany Briere and Claude Giroux live together. Many articles have noted this. However, the only time it's been even a little weird is when they went to go buy Giroux's bedroom furniture. That's not even a joke. They went together."
They went and shopped bedroom furniture together!!!
You guys, this is so text, it's not even funny anymore. I mean, who does that?!
This article gives a few further insights. To sum up a few major points:
- They live together (big deal, I know)
- "Our boys"
- They went and shopped bedroom furniture together (what, did they test mattresses together, too? Because I totally am on board with that idea.)
- ...after Giroux, who is a blushing 22 years old, moved from the fancy party area of Philly to somewhere clearly targeted at families to live with his teammate and help raise his three kids
- Giroux helps coaching the boys' hockey teams
- Giroux picks the boys up from school (does he tuck them in at night, too?)
- 'Big brother', sure. Who's supposed to believe that?
- That's friggin family picture in the second article!
- They're also rooming together on the road, btw
How much more obvious does it get? Because, honestly, I'd not be surprised if the two of them were hiding in plain sight. They're practically asking to be slashed for all they're worth!
And the press is happily on board with the whole living together what have you notion. Fascinating.
Guys, honestly. Even if you're not into hockey. The slash is totally there and up for grabs (even though it's the Flyers).

Not that it's anything new, but Sergio Ramos does nothing to disperse his image. Not only can you find slash fanfic with him and basically every other player in the NT and the Real Madrid team (there's hoping that he never googles himself with anyone else because uhm...Google's first suggestion with anyone is "fanfic" and "slash").
No, now he also tries to get it on with players from rival teams, as evidenced here:

Be careful, Diego!
I totally skimmed this off
ontd_football (and you can judge me all you want, I don't care :P). But I also wanted a copy for myself and just putting it in bookmarks or memories or whatever wouldn't do, so here we go.You may want to keep an eye on the way the two boys answer. I find that interesting on several levels (including political).
Oh right.

Andrej/Andrey/Andrei (seen all versions) Arshavin is a football (soccer) player currently playing for Arsenal (same club as Cesc Fàbregas). Infos on goal.com and Wikipedia. Doesn't look 29, does he?

Alexander Ovechkin is a hockey player with the Capitals and currently considered one of the best players of the league. Infos on nhl.com and Wikipedia. He's younger than me *sigh* I need to get used to that, the only sports people who will be younger then me in foreseeable time are the equestrians.
Anyway! ( Let me spare you your flistCollapse )
Discuss! (Or not, whatever :P)
Anyway, what I also did was skimming over an anon kink meme.
My.
I mean.
Quite aside from the fact that most of what is considered kink these days I never would have pinned as such... Quite a bit of that stuff wasn't even completely horrible. (Mind you, I have a reason why I'm not overly involved in fandom since around my X-Files times when I found out that being overly involved is not what I want and thankfully fandom was small and German then so I could get out.) Anyway, thing is, I've come across fulfilled prompts (on AO3 for example, or elsewhere), but I've never bothered about the actual memes, neither reading nor participating. So I was actually surprised.
And I was even more surprised to find myself reading mpreg(!!!) and not being completely horrified by it.
Imagine my surprise.
( Meta is meta and contains slight spoilers and it's all tl;dr anyway so don't bother unless you're bored or deeply interested. Also, no flaming in comments, please.Collapse )
(Oh right, and all of my reservations don't pertain to crack because crack is...well, crack.)
This basically is the movie version of "The Eagle of the Ninth" by Rosemary Sutcliff (from 1954!). I had the book in the last amazon order (my mother's really, but I needed a tidbit in there, too), and have now interrupted my Malazan reread for this before the movie comes out in a little while and I still haven't read it.
Essentially, people got all bug-eyed about the trailer because of the inverse master-slave dynamic (and no obvious female love interest), although I have to admit: I totally would have been able to watch this without ever seeing the slash potential. My slash goggles are facultative, rather than obligate, have been for forever (good example: without fanfic, I would not have seen the slash in "Merlin", okay? okay.), so that's nor surprising.
Not that I can now escape it, ever!
Still, the book is turning out to be interesting. I'm not 50 pages in and a good part of my assumptions of how the storyline was supposed to be are out the window already. *g* That isn't a bad thing, really. It's a children's book, and from a time when the term "gay" still meant something different. It's an interesting read, all things considered. Dunno if it'll be a quick one. Should be, but I've grown irregular in my reading sessions.
But uh....yeah. I know I've linked a few of you to the trailer already, but those of you I haven't, go watch :P
Now I need someone to go watch that movie with me. In English. Hmpf.
(Btw, yes, the accent thing seems to be intentional. Try to live with it. Also, yes, historically speaking it will be a horrible movie. I don't really care, it's a) a movie made from a book and b) it's Roman slave games in the woods, I can put up with historical inaccuracy for the sake of that.)
Thank you so much to
Anyway. My recipient was *drumroll*
I could have easily given her Royalty RPF as her main story but that would have been too obvious, of course!
So main story was:

Some battles are fought in the pouring rain on a ragged field. Some matches take place in bright sunshine on a perfect pitch. But what about the men behind the ball? With their hearts tied to their shoes and their souls made greater by football, they are Celeste.
(I do realize I recced this in my rec post but I couldn't rec all other Celeste fics and not this one, so that's the reason for that.)
Too bad I still was her prime suspect *sigh*. It's no fun watching crime procedurals with her, she always knows who the murderer is after 10 minutes.
To throw her off my trail, I also gave her

But she kind of knew about that. I knew I had to sacrifice one thing in order to protect the larger set so...yeah. But we'd talked about this too much anyway, so it was just a matter of her telling me it was me. But it did protect the rest. Kind of.
Another treat I wrote was für

Some...22k or 23k this time around for yuletide, then. Good :)
And writing Celeste fic was massive fun!
I'd downloaded 36 stories to read without Madness and that is likely all I will rec here, at least the ones that made it into my bookmarks and got a comment or kudos from me and that I liked enough to rec.
So!
By fandom (not sorted by anything), although my favourites have a ♥:
( Coldfire, Doctrine of Labyrinths, TV-Commercials (Torchwood), 13th Century CE RPF, 15th Century CE RPF, 12th Century CE RPF, White Collar RPF, Royalty RPF, Football RPF, A Softer World, 10 Things I Hate About You, Rai-Kirah Trilogy, Being Human, A Knight's Tale, Inland Territory, Castle and Fuyu no SemiCollapse )
And omg, last night I went to bed with one gift in my account AND THEN I GOT A SECOND THIS MORNING!!!
Can you believe it? Gifts! For me!
Ahem.
There is freedom we shall also shout which is, omg Celeste fic!! Meaning this is Uruguay national football (soccer, you dolts ;)) team fic! It's with World Cup backdrop and it is great and amazing and I'm absolutely in LOVE with it and I want to make everyone read it. GO READ IT! NOW!
Ahem.
My second one is Intermezzo, set within the nutty circles of my Royalty (YHR) RPF crowd and it's lovely. It's Theodora of Greece and Denmark pov! It works by itself without having read the rest (although that always helps, of course!). So go read that, too!
*excited*
Thank you, dear yulegoats! You have no idea how happy you've made me!
you are awesomecakes for being matched to me. Just saying. ^^ I mean what are the odds of the two of us being matched, eh?
As you can see, my LJ is friends only for the most part, but that doesn't truly need to concern you. Since my degree has eaten my life this past year (and especially the last few months), I'm easy to please and will be happy with pretty much everything. It also means there's not all that much to learn about me, really. Like I said, consumed by school.
Optional details being optional, I hope this letter will help you a little and give you more freedom than what was possible at the sign up process. There's no particular order to the fandom list, as I'm writing this before sign ups open, it's just what pops into my head first.
( Royalty RPFCollapse )
( Football RPFCollapse )
( Malazan Book of the FallenCollapse )
My, this is RPF heavy, never would have thought that this time last year.
Okay, I guess Royalty RPF and Footie RPF should be relatively straight forward. If you possibly want to switch from your assigned fandom, you do not need to read YHR (the story), if you have your own ideas please by all means, go ahead. Footie, well, La Celeste is definitely what I want, sorry. I don't really care about football in and by itself, La Celeste is...different.
Malazan Book of the Fallen is a 10 volume book series by Steven Erikson (9 volumes released). It is truly epic fantasy, there are so many narrative strands I can't quite summarize it in two sentences. Just if you like high fantasy, you will probably like Malazan. It doesn't really warrant switching to if you're unfamiliar with it, though.
( Things I like/dislike, in generalCollapse )
I hope this letters helped you. If you still have questions, use the admins.
Thanks,

I went and unfriended a few people and left a few communities which I wasn't reading anyway or which have been dormant for a while / people who I haven't commented on and haven't commented on me. If you were just lurking and still reading with interest drop me a line and I'll re-friend you. This is not hostility on my part.
I wasn't nearly as thorough as I should have been, I'm aware of that.
I also know I should get used to DW already and at least update my flist there / start reading but recently I don't even follow LJ as much as I should... Maybe RSS is something I should finally establish. *shrug*
The protagonists:

first off: You're awesome already for your offers somehow overlapping with mine and for being willing to write for me. Thank you!
Starting this letter, I seriously don't know how lengthy my additional info will be or if at all and stuff, so please bear with me *bows*
So I guess let's come to my requests?

But maybe it is because of all these things that I feel an irrational pride and what's currently going on in Myanmar (formerly known as Birma or Burma)

Much as what I thought and think about the people who went to the streets back in the late 80s, I do admire the bravery and the will to bring a sacrifice that these people display.
