Why AutoFilmCrop

Cropping film scans isn't hard – it's repetitive.

AutoFilmCrop removes the tedious process of manually cropping each film frame you scan. It detects the film frame for each image and applies clean, consistent crops automatically, so you can focus more on the creative part of your workflow.

It also fits cleanly into workflows that include tools like Negative Lab Pro: crop/rotate first, then convert and edit.

What you get

  • Batch crop + rotate from File → Plug-in Extras → AutoFilmCrop
  • Settings & Preview to inspect the mask and tune thresholds
  • Per-image detection (handles small alignment changes within a roll)
  • Bundled runtime (no additional setup once installed)
  • macOS + Windows installers

Works great for

  • Camera-scanned film (copy stand / macro setups)
  • Flatbed and dedicated scanner outputs
  • Visible borders, holders, rebate, and strong frame edges
  • Mixed batches where frames aren't perfectly aligned

If a roll is tricky, tune once in Preview, then batch the selection.

One-click menu items

  1. Open Settings & Preview… once to confirm detection
  2. Select any number of scans
  3. Run AutoFilmCrop to apply to all images

Private and local

AutoFilmCrop runs entirely on your machine. No cloud uploads or data collection.

  • Runs locally within Lightroom Classic
  • No monthly subscription
  • Your photos stay on your drive

When AutoFilmCrop may not be a fit

Best results come from scans with visible borders or clear frame edge contrast.

  • Scans already tightly cropped with no visible edges
  • Extremely low contrast borders
  • Irregularly shaped frame edges/corners

FAQ

Does it work for both negatives and positives?
Yes. If a batch is tricky, use Settings & Preview to tune detection and confirm the mask.
Will it overwrite my edits?
No; it applies crop/rotate as normal Lightroom Develop edits. You can always reset crop or revert history.
What if I want to use it on multiple computers?
Each license can be activated on up to 2 computers you own (for example, a desktop and a laptop).

If you replace a machine or need to move an activation, you can deactivate the old one inside the plugin or just email [email protected] and we'll help you out.
