The Tata Nexon CNG is a factory-fitted CNG version of the brand’s popular sub-4 metre SUV, priced from ₹8.23 lakh (ex-showroom). Introduced in September 2024, it is India’s first turbocharged CNG car and forms part of Tata Motors' expanding alt-fuel portfolio. Based on the X1 platform and carrying forward the same underpinnings as the regular Nexon, the CNG version offers practicality with minimal compromise in boot space due to its twin-cylinder CNG tank layout. The Nexon was originally launched in 2017 and underwent major facelifts in 2020 and 2023 before the addition of this CNG variant.

Key Performance Specifications

The Nexon CNG is powered by the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol Revotron engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. With this, the SUV makes 72 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. In the pure-ICE model, this unit makes 87 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.

Twin Cylinder CNG

One of the biggest hurdles for CNG vehicle owners has always been the lack of trunk space. Tata Motors solves this in 2025 with its patented Twin Cylinder Technology. By using two smaller cylinders placed under the luggage area, the Nexon iCNG offers a massive 321 liters of usable boot space. This makes it a practical choice for family trips without compromising on luggage.

The 2025 lineup is packed with premium features that were previously reserved for luxury segments. Depending on the variant, the Nexon iCNG offers:

Infotainment: A 10.25-inch touchscreen by Harman with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Cockpit: A 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster with navigation display.
Comfort: Ventilated leatherette seats, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents.
Luxury: Voice-assisted panoramic sunroof and an 8-speaker JBL sound system with subwoofer.
Convenience: Wireless charger, 360-degree high-definition surround-view system, and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety remains a core pillar for the Nexon brand. The iCNG model carries forward the 5-star G-NCAP safety rating heritage and includes specialized CNG safety tech:

Leak Detection: Sensors that automatically switch to petrol if a leak is detected.
Fire Protection: A dedicated device to prevent fire spread in the cylinder area.
Thermal Protection: Safeguards against extreme temperature variations.
Standard Safety: 6 Airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors are available across the range.

A Powerful SUV at a Great Price

My experience with the Tata Nexon has been really good. genuinely like the looks of this car. The comfort is top-notch, and the safety rating is. Even after opting for CNG, the boot space is 321 litres, which is quite impressive. In terms of mileage, I get around 20–25 km/kg on the highway and 15+ km/kg in city driving. The 1.2-litre turbocharged engine in the CNG variant feels powerful, making the car comfortable and reliable for daily use as well as long drives.

Nexon iCNG Best Combo

I’m using a Tata car and honestly, it's paisa vasool. Stylish look, solid safety, and super comfortable seats. Rear seat can recline almost flat, so perfect for resting on long drives or picnics with family. I’ve got the CNG version, and still there's enough boot space which is rare. Mileage is also pretty decent for daily use. Plus, the sunroof gives an amazing open view – kids love it. Overall, very happy with the comfort, features and Tata’s build quality. Tata is really forever!

Finally A Solid Tata CNG SUV

I’ve been using the pure CNG Tata Nexon for the past 3 months and honestly, it’s been a solid experience. After the first service, mileage improved by 4-5 kmpl, which was a nice surprise. Ride quality feels way better than cars like Brezza, Fronx, or even the 3XO. Steering is much more responsive compared to older Nexon versions. Braking is strong, especially helpful if you love high-speed drives. Infotainment screen is smooth and clear—way better now. Only thing is, on longer drives, some light vibrations can be felt, but nothing major. Overall, very satisfied!
