Description:
The RESIZE Project (Reshaping Correctional Competencies through RESCALED Innovation) aims to transform the European correctional landscape by supporting the transition from large-scale, closed prisons to small-scale, community-integrated detention houses.
The project focuses on adapting the workforce to this “detention house” model by developing competency profiles, recognition of prior learning (RPL) mechanisms, microcredentialing, and certification processes for correctional staff.
By aligning staff skills with innovative, correctional practices based on human-rights, RESIZE seeks to ensure a sustainable systemic change in European detention systems.
Activities:
- Defining Competency Frameworks: Identifying and mapping the specific skills and competencies required for staff working in small-scale detention houses,
- Developing RPL and Certification: Creating mechanisms for the recognition of prior learning and establishing a micro-credentialing system for correctional professionals,
- Capacity Building: Designing and implementing training programs to prepare the current and future workforce for the transition to community-integrated correctional models,
- Policy and Systemic Advocacy: Formulating recommendations for the integration of these new competency standards into national and European correctional policies.
Results:
- A comprehensive Competency Profile for staff in small-scale, community-integrated detention houses,
- A validated Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Micro-credentialing framework for the correctional sector,
- Enhanced professional mobility and standardized certification for correctional workforce across Europe,
- A roadmap for systemic change towards more rehabilitative and human-centered detention models.
