Where Robotics Startups and Automation Companies Build “What’s Next”

Solving Labor Shortages and Problems Related to Efficiency, Safety, and Precision

Labor shortages, rising costs, and the demand for precision and higher productivity are fueling the need for robotics startups across Georgia’s economy. From agriculture and healthcare to logistics, defense, and entertainment, robotics is no longer limited to manufacturing; it’s everywhere.

But robotics startups face steep challenges. Building a minimum viable product (MVP) requires capital, yet most investors want traction first. Technical and manufacturing challenges are especially tough for hardtech companies combining hardware and software, and access to maker spaces and expert support is essential.

ATDC provides the resources, mentorship, and infrastructure robotics companies and automation companies need to build, test, and scale. From product development to investor connections and strategic partnerships, we help founders overcome complexity and bring transformative technologies to market.

I’m Ward Broom,
ATDC’s Automation and Robotics Catalyst

As a semi-retired entrepreneur, I bring deep operational and business development experience in manufacturing and robotics. After selling IPA, the healthcare automation company I co-founded, to Roper Technologies, I have participated in several startups in operational and advisory roles. Along the way I have built a strong industry network and learned many invaluable lessons, all of which I now use to help founders succeed.

A proud Georgia Tech alum (times three), I love giving back to my alma mater. I’ve also been active as an angel investor and enjoy sharing insights with startups navigating the funding landscape.

My advice for entrepreneurs:

Don't do it alone. Find at least one Co-Founder with complimentary skills that is also passionate about the space and build a strong team of advisors.”

Robotics Startups: Powering a Safer, Smarter Future

Robotics startups are reshaping how we work and live. These technologies take on dull, dirty, and dangerous tasks, boosting safety, efficiency, and productivity. In high-risk, high-precision environments like surgery or advanced manufacturing, robotics fills critical labor gaps with unmatched accuracy. And as our population ages, robotics and automation will play a vital role in improving quality of life and independence.

ATDC has three levels of programs for startups: Educate, Accelerate, and Signature, with Accelerate and Signature having industry-specific opportunities.
