arsenal tickets? [Dec. 22nd, 2008|08:24 pm]
astonvilla

misery_deluxe
hi,

i'm a villa fan from germany. i was wondering if it's possible to get tickets for the arsenal match on friday. at avfc.co.uk it says you can only book tickets with a booking history. which i don't have.

is there any realistic chance of just going to the match on friday and getting a ticket? even if it's sold out, are there normally people who still sell a ticket before the match? i'd happily pay more than the regular price of course. or is that a naive thought and you only get tickets for 5 times the normal price?

i could get a cheap flight from germany, but if you brummie locals say that there's no point anyway, i'd just forget it. ;-)

or does anyone happen to have a spare ticket?

cheers,
frank

For anyone wondering 'what happens now?' - a few pieces of extraordinarily useful information...

We know that we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen. This is not news, of course, but it's always nice to be reminded!

We know that we're competing in the last ever Intertoto Cup.

We know that we have to play one round over two legs to get into the UEFA Cup Second Qualifying Round.

We know that this puts us only four games from the UEFA Cup proper and six games from the 'safety' of the group stage.

We know that our match will be against Lisburn Distillery of Northern Ireland, Turun Palloseura (TPS) Turku of Finland or an as yet undecided Danish club - whichever finishes third in their league.

We know that we'll find out the Danish club on May 24th which is the last day of their season. There are still 3 or 4 games left to play but at the moment it's looking like FC Copenhagen or Odense BK.

We know that the first round - which will eliminate Distillery or Turku - is over the weekends of 21/22 and 28/29 June with Distillery at home first.

We know that the second round - which will decide our opponents - is over the weekends of 5/6 and 12/13 July with NIR/FIN at home first.

We will know our opponents by July 13th.

We know that the third round takes place on the weekends of 19/20 and 26/27 July with Villa away in the first leg.

We know that Lisburn Distillery (known as Distillery until 1999) are notable, the more eagle-eyed amongst you might know, for being the club from which a certain Martin O'Neill joined Nottingham Forest. Other notable ex-players include Sir Tom Finney and the one and only Derek Dougan.

We know that Turun Palloseura, known more commonly as TPS, of Turku in Finland are the nice club who sold us Peter Enkelman and Mika Aaritalo, the latter of whom returned there following his failure to settle in England.

I'm sure we know more but, at this moment in time, I think that's more than enough for our collective brains to cope with!

So put the dates in your diary...'cos we're all going on an Intertoto Tour!

Don't know how many of you saw this in the Birmingham Post today or how many of you check out the local press online. Today they published an interview with new Chief Exec, Richard FitzGerald.

Sounds like he's making the right noises to me and he's confirming that the evidence we've seen of the new board listening to fans and trying to give us what we want is an active and ongoing process rather than just a measure of short-term appeasement.

Villa have finally completed the signing of Ashley Young from Watford. Have a couple of pics of him:

Yesterday we snapped up John Carew from Lyon whilst offloading Milan Baros:

Here's hoping they do the trick up front. I reckon we're still short a midfielder at least. Defensively, with Bardsley, we should be just about sorted.
