Hey everybody! Happy New Year to all of you who celebrated, general happy days to all of you who celebrate New Year at another time.
This year was kind of insane for me and unexpected in many ways. I finished the last leg of my education (maybe), got a scholarship I applied for and traveled over the atlantic for a new job. I’ve been really lucky with co-workers and the work itself but it was definitely a challenge. After the initial adjustment, I thought I’d have soooo much time to write, but new opportunities and responsibilities came up and I did not.
Unfortunately, my writing time suffered (AO3 informs me I have only posted 170k this year which is a little less than my usual 220-260, and at least 40k for this year’s bangs were written in 2016, so…) and I realized once again how much I miss writing when I can’t do it. I also miss fandom time, though it has been a while since I watched the show. I miss it, and everytime I see the pic of the boys it makes me miss it more but it’s getting harder for me to watch the new eps, so I don’t know if I’ll get back to that. I’m mostly on twitter these days because it’s quick and easy to navigate.
Anyway. Here’s my list of writings this year. I’m mostly happy with what I managed this year and I got incredibly lucky with artist collaborations.

Underneath verse: I have three little more than halfway finished timestamps: Jared’s origin story, Jensen’s vacation and a fic where someone gets shot. Considering the speed with which I have been updating this fic, three timestamps are ambitious but I’ll try.

And that’s it. Since my contract was renewed for another year my job is safe and I hope I’ll have a lot of time to write :)

There has been a lot of buzzing about the new LJ terms of service. Some people deleted their lj, others only backed up their journal. After taking a look, I decided I am going to move my fic off lj. Now, almost all my stuff is on AO3 anyway and I imported my entire journal to dreamwidth (I’m ashtraythief<\/a> over there too). I am, of course, a little bit worried that posts might get deleted, but I am moving my fic for two reasons mostly. One, the translated ToS in english are not legally binding and when the original ToS change they don’t have to tell us and two lj could access posted journal content. Both those aspects make me want to move my fic. I will still keep this journal to keep in touch with the lj peeps and participate in challenges. Since I’ve taken to just posting fic on AO3, nothing much is going to change, just so you know, if you come to my journal looking for fic, look here at my ao3 masterlist, or here on dreamwith. I will still announce fic posts on here.

In other news, I participated in <\/a>spnspringfling<\/b><\/a><\/span>, got a fabulous piece of art <\/a>and wrote a little dragon story<\/a>. I’ll post a slightly expanded version later to ao3. I’m still on the fence for bigbang. I have a fic I wanted to do but I’m kind of stalled and my other old stuff is far from being finished. We’ll see.

There’s one last auction fic (*hangs head in shame*) but I’m halfway there! Then it’s on to finish my rbb and my other unfinished projects.

Fortunately, rl is going reasonably well and until I have to move in summer for my new job, my life is going to be relatively relaxed, so I hope I can actually do a lot of writing the next few months. Fingers crossed.

Since the new year has just started and I’m also starting a new part of my life (kind of, anyway) I thought I’d also do an update on my fannish year since people expressed interest in lj posts last year. (This is what you get… ;))

I’m working on my rbb that I’m doing with <\/a>amberdreams<\/b><\/a><\/span> who is seriously so amazing. Once again, I’Ve been so lucky with my rbb artist (it’s the third time, so I should probably quit after this round, just to be safe.) We’ve come up with a fun plot for her wonderful archaeologist dic in space prompt with a very fun and satisfying ending (you’ll see ;)) and our posting date is Feb 15th.
There’s also one more auction fic I really need to finish for my endlessly patient bidder and after finally settling on bodyguard Jensen with diplomatic brat Jared I think I’ll finally make it.
I also have one last prompt from tumblr to finish, which seriously grew legs (the prompt was iceskating, the first chapter already has 8k, though I must disappoint everyone who’s enjoying YOI because it’s not at all like that, there are, in fact, no ice skaters in this story at all, even though there will be ice skating!) Since it’s been so long and the fic is turning so long, I’ve been pondering posting it as a WIP or maybe saving it for bigbang. I somehow don’t doubt I could push this past 20k. Thoughts?
Bigbang in general I’m torn about. I’ll sign up but I don’t know how my work situation will be in spring, so I have no idea if I can make it this year or not. I really want to, but I’ll have to see. If there’s springfling, which I hope there is, I’m in and I’d definitely be up for a new round of masquerade. I haven’t written dirty-bad-wrong things in a while….

I’m also of course still working on the Underneath-verse. However, Jared has decided to demand more POV and tell his own story, so that’s taking a while. I’d also love to re-edit the original story. There are still typos and wrong grammar and awkward phrasing in there, that I’d like to get rid of, but I also want to adjust some scenes, especially since I got to know my characters much better during the writing of all the timestamps. I won’t change anything major, or the plot, but there’ll be some minor changes. I’m very tempted to change the location,since the crime world I made up is much closer to Boston for example than to Chicago I think. The boy’s families will also feature more important roles and since they’re not public figures like the Js and their wives, I want to change their names and turn them into original characters. Now that they’re such big characters… idk, I’d feel better if they were more original characters, if that makes sense. Not everyone I told about re-editing so far was excited about it, but I really think it’s for the better. In any case, I’ll give enough notice when I plan to update the version, so that everybody who wants the original one has enough time to download it. I’ll also explain in detail what and why I changed it and I hope that’ll be okay for everyone who enjoys the verse. I know it’s my most popular story and it was my very first one, my fandom baby so to speak, so it’s very close to my heart and I want to make it the best version I can. I hope that will work for you guys!

Originally, I didn’t even want to do bigbang this year, because with finishing school, there just wasn’t any time. In the end, I couldn't resist, and this prompt promised a fun and short story (keeping it under 30k definitely counts as short!). I’m very glad I decided to write this story, because it was a lot of fun, I could therapeutically include thesis stuff in here, and most importantly, the wonderful <\/a>lightthesparks<\/b><\/a><\/span> picked my summary again and made the most amazing art!
