Since I have been working on Scribe lately, I use spare time to hand-code small pieces of classic backend systems from papers and engineering posts. The rule is simple: read the source material, implement the core idea by hand, and keep the scope small enough to finish.

Append-only key-value store in Go: log entries, keydir, tombstones, crash recovery, and compaction.

Implementation focus

Planned Go build: partitioned commit log, segment rollover, producer append, fetch by offset, and consumer group offsets.

More builds are planned from the same reading list, including rsync, Dynamo-style consistent hashing, Raft, ptrace, WiscKey, and the LMAX Disruptor.
