Article 39 appointed 14 young people to our first young people’s Expert Panel in autumn 2024, with its first main meeting taking place on 21 October 2024.

The Expert Panel is very important to Article 39. Members:

  • Help build Article 39’s knowledge and understanding of what it’s like living in an institutional setting* as a child or young person.
  • Help Article 39 work out what’s needed to make sure every child who lives in an institutional setting has their rights respected.
  • Influence Article 39’s overall priorities as a children’s rights charity.
  • Learn more about running a children’s rights charity.
  • Work with other children and young people who are passionate about children’s rights, as well as the Article 39 team.

*An institutional setting is a home or another place where children and young people live together with adult carers or other staff. Institutional settings vary in size: two or three children and young people may live in a children’s home; a larger number may live in a mental health inpatient unit or a part of a prison; while hundreds of children and young people may attend the same boarding or residential special school.
