Day 2 :: Something you feel strongly about

There are a lot of things I feel strongly about. Today's topic of choice is unnecessary drama. I will admit that I used to be a real drama queen when I was younger. Because I thought it was the only way I could get anyone to pay any attention to me, thanks to how I was raised. I'll be honest and say that I was probably in my early 30s before it truly sunk in that I didn't need to do that sort of thing if I wanted or needed attention from someone. A lot of my interpersonal skills were kind of fucked up until I hit my 30s. *shrugs*

Anyway, I do a LOT of RP over on Twitter. I freely admit it. Far too much, to be perfectly honest, but it's a creative outlet and a diversion. Most of the time. But JFC there is a metric fuckton of drama in and around RP over there, both IC and OOC. Hell, a lot of the time, OOC drama is brought into IC stuff. It's ridiculous. Then again, the vast majority of RPers seem to be about 12-15yo, so...

But the sheer amounts of unnecessary drama and flouncing that go on over there are insane! They oftentimes make me wish I'd never started RPing on Twitter in the first place. I've been bullied rather violently via my primary RP acct's Ask.fm account by a VERY "popular" RP troll last October. Like she and her partner were threatening to hurt me via my character, then described in great detail how they'd either stab or repeatedly kick said character in the stomach to force her to miscarry her unborn children. And that's just part of what was done to me/my character. That doesn't even scratch the surface of what was done to friends of mine.

That kind of drama kills me....

I'm not entirely sure this post has fulfilled the topic for today, but there you go...

Today I am grateful for MY JOURNALS.

Whether I post publicly, flist/circle-only, custom-flitered, or privately, I have cultivated a space over the last 10+ years that I feel is safe for me to say what I want when I want to say it. Yes, there are times that I will "censor" my words, for various reasons usually known only to me, but it's my journal and my choice to do so.

There are three posts linked on my profile pages that everyone should read before friending my journals, but I know that not everyone does that sort of that. And that's totally an individual choice that I can support. BUT if you don't read them, and then you turn around and do something that ends up being one of my "unbreakable" rules in my journals, you can bet your sweet ass that I'll come down on you like the proverbial ton of bricks. And, depending on the severity of the situation, you may face being banned from my journals.

Yeah, my journal, my fucking rules. You don't like them, you know where the door is.

If you read my journal and think you know me without ever actually, y'know, interacting with me, then you're wrong. And that also means that you don't have the right to come into my journal and tell me how wrong my life is, not without expecting to get your ass handed back to you. I certainly wouldn't walk into your house and start criticizing you.

Per this thread on LJ, including the information that even locked posts and comments can be linked to, I am making a new rule in my LJ only, because thankfully this shit hasn't hit DW [and hopefully never will].



UNLESS I CHOOSE TO SHARE INFORMATION IN MY OWN FACEBOOK ACCOUNT, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. PERIOD. END OF STORY. And even then, I'll rewrite it as a note and change any LJ/DW specific information accordingly.

If I find out that ANYONE is reposting things from my journal to their Facebook or Twitter, even if it's their own comments, YOU ARE UNCONDITIONALLY AND WHOLLY BANNED FROM MY JOURNALS AND ANY COMMUNITIES I CREATED AND MAINTAIN. There will be no second chances on this. My journals and my Facebook do not mix. Yes, there are ways that people could figure out connections between my journals and my FB, but that is not public consumption for just anyone to have. Fuck that shit.

So apparently, there's been a bit of a hullabaloo in fandom recently. Maybe you've heard about it. Criminal Minds is firing AJ Cook and drastically reducing the status of Paget Brewster, yet Kirsten Vangsness is being kept as the token fulltime female character because she's popular with the fans. So over here, I asked for people to give me a fandom and I'd give my unpopular opinions for it. wildrosesings was the only respondent and requested CSI. So here goes...

GSR is for suckers
As far as I'm concerned, the whole concept of Grissom and Sara as a couple angers me. More importantly, it creeps me the fuck out! He doesn't have a properly emotional/caring bone in his body, and his mind's stuck in bug-land. He couldn't even stick with Lady Heather, who at least garnered a bit of real response from him. I suspect that was primarily for him to experience something new.

All of these people who think that GSR is the best thing since sliced bread? You're on fucking crack! And no, I don't want to share it. And I'm also not saying this because I prefer writing Sara with Sofia. It has nothing to do with Sara's sexuality [1]. It has everything to do with the very reality of the chemistry [or lack thereof] between Grissom and Sara. Yes, she had a crush on him for a while, but she's grown out of it. Have the GSR freaks people not seen the many times that Grissom's made comments about relationships [usually relating to cases] and how Sara's shot him down every single time? This has pretty much been since season 3 at least. And now we're supposed to believe that they've been a couple for a while? How fucking stupid do TPTB think we are? She still calls him Grissom ALL THE TIME. If you're dating, that's not the way it is...

And are we honestly supposed to believe that, despite all the snarky comments re: relationships [not to mention her fucked up relationship with Hank], Sara's been pining away for Grissom all this time? Yeah, I don't think so... That's really demeaning to the character. If she's really been pining away for him all these years, Hank wouldn't have happened. No, this is simply another spoke in the Lifetime-ification of Sara Sidle. I'd almost think that CSI was being shown on Lifetime, instead of CBS.

GSR is purely and simply Billy Peterson's personal strokefest. He wanted this pairing and has pretty much taken credit for it happening. Yeah, that's rather like the whole Sam/Jack thing on Stargate, but that's a different rant entirely. Tho' I know some Sam/Jack shipper fans that are normal. I don't know that I've met one GSR fan that's "normal." And for the record? I've lost all respect for Billy Peterson and Gil Grissom because of this shit. I can't watch a scene that has Grissom and Sara in it without wondering if it's supposed to be some sort of GSR thing. It's ruining the show for me, for fuck's sake!


[1] Jorja Fox is so playing Sara Sidle as a closet case. Maybe it's not a conscious choice, but it's there. I've never seen the character as straight in any way, shape, or form. She's so uncomfortable around other people, and she has never really had the heterosexual vibe going. I don't even care if Sara's dating a woman outside of work [what a concept!], but she really needs to come out of the closet...

Someone has set up a community with an automatic script to scrape off any image that is posted publically that meets LJ icon requirements and post them to that community iconscraper (there's also a companion comm for animated icons animgifscraper). The posts in the community hotlink the original source of the images.

However, you can opt out your journal, and prevent images you post publically in your journal from being included in iconscraper and similar scripts that are scraping from the latest-img LJ feature. You can also protect communities you mod. All you have to do is opt out of the latest-img thing.

Make sure you're logged into LJ as your journal. Go to the Admin Console at http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/ and input set latest_optout yes and click on the execute button.

To protect a community, type set for communityname latest_optout yes and click on the execute button. (Although, I'm not sure if you type the word 'for' or leave it out).

Apparently, the opt-out feature does work seeing as how the mod for iconscraper made a post bitching about the reduction in icons caused by people opting out, heh.

I would note that it's not just iconscraper that's posting LJ image feeds. I found a number of sites that post just plain old images and I'm not sure if flocking a post keeps images from showing up in the feeds. Either way, I recommend *everyone* opting out of this.. unless you don't wanna.

So in light of this, I headed over to AOL to the "full CD music party." Listened to the Grand Funk Railroad Greatest Hits [want it!] and then decided to be perverse and started up Paris, the new Paris Hilton CD that goes on sale on 8/22.

OMFG!!!!! I barely got into the second track and had to stop it because it's. Just. So. Bad.

Yes, it's that time again. I read a rather large amount of fanfic, while trying to find stories to archive on ShatterStorm Productions. And yes, I slog through attempt to read a lot of real crap just to find a few nuggets of goodness that I feel would exemplify what I want for ShatterStorm Productions. And I do mean slog through...

So here is a list of the latest things that have just been pissing me off...But I can't say anything on the various lists, not even politely, because I get accused of being a mean, evil bitch who hurts the poor suckers' writers' feelings. You know, the writers who only want "OMG U R TEH BESTEST RIGHTER I EVER KNOWED!!!!!11!!!!!!" for feedback, only want the adulation, instead of wanting any constructive criticism to help them better their craft. At this point, the only feedback most writers get is the rare occasion of me asking for their stories for the site. And yeah, that's usually QUITE rare...

*sigh* Anyway, here's the list of the latest shit...Feel free to add to it, comment, argue, whatever... I'm considering making a list of "what not to do" for writers. If I do so, it'll be started out of this...

1. Based on my comments above, let me just say that if all you want is adulation/praise/ego-stroking, PLEASE put that in your header info/author's notes. Because then I'll pretty much ignore your stories...unless I know you and/or like your works already and know what I can get away with saying to you. Now, I understand wanting to know that people read and like your stories. But if you've fucked something up, wouldn't you want to know it?
   
   
2. GET A BETA. In fact, get a beta that's got a reasonable grasp on the English language and isn't going to suck your ass so you feel better. Get a beta who will challenge what you've written. If you get challenged and you can't give a reasonable argument for why you've done it, you've fucked up and need to fix it. That or paste AU in huge neon orange letters all over your fic. Period.
   
   
3. Why is it that so many writers can't get the simple idea of only one person's dialogue per paragraph? Now, I can see doubling up dialogues in one paragraph on occasion...but don't do the two sets of dialogue back to back. For fuck's sake, learn how to do basic writing!!!
   
   
4. Learn to use your contractions correctly, please. Or just don't use them at all, m'kay? For a list of corrected examples, please see the following list...
   • Could have = could've, not could of
     
   • Should have = should've, not should of
     
   • Would have = would've, not would of
   Oh, and my personal favorite of the fucked up contractions I've seen in fanfics? "could've of" So does that mean the person could have of done something? *rolls eyes*
   
   
5. Spell check. SPELL CHECK. SPELL CHECK. SPELL CHECK. SPELL CHECK.

6. Horrid characterizations... aka characters blatantly fucking like whores "on the job." Yes, I'm talking about the lovely ladies of CSI and/or L&O:SVU here, but mostly the former. I'm sorry, but very few things jolt me out of a fic like grossly inaccurate characterizations. I'm sorry, but I don't see it happening. A little flirting on the job? Maybe a quickie at the lab/precinct? Sure. But basically groping/fucking each other at a crime scene? No fucking way in hell. These characters happen to be too dedicated to their jobs to fuck up like that...Sex/love is a great thing, but not enough to throw the job away, particularly when it's not something we can easily see/extrapolate in canon.
   
   
7. No knowledge of canon, or a blatant disregard of it. This tends to happen more in SVU. There have been at least 2 different stories where authors have admitted when called on it that they knew next to nothing of the show, but wanted to write for it anyway. Now, normally I'd commend someone wanting to follow the lure of the muses, but not like this... Picking up the whole of SVU and just plopping it down into Chicago as part of the ER universe? Or claiming that Boston's SV unit isn't good enough to investigate a crime, so they bring the SVU team in. Not even on a cross-jurisdiction thing either, just brings in "the experts." Who are wildly out of character [see above point for my thoughts on this].
   
   
8. Lack of research for medical conditions/procedures/etc. One of the biggest things I've seen for this one happened recently in SG1 fandom. A prolific writer who uses IM roleplay as fanfic created a new disease to use. She requested additional info on one of the lists...and when someone with some knowledge in diseases and virology made suggestions about shit she fucked up, she said she wasn't going to change what she'd written. If you're not going to take the advice of someone who knows what they're talking about, don't fucking ask for the advice in the first place... And this goes for pretty much any kind of specialized information...
   
   
9. LEARN HOW TO SPELL THE CHARACTERS' NAMES CORRECTLY. Prime example? Her name is Sofia, not Sophia. It's not rocket science, y'all...
   
   
10. Clichés are like spices, and should be used sparingly to enhance the flavor of the story. They shouldn't be the sole focus of the plot. Unless you're intending a satirical take on a cliché or are doing a ficathon/challenge for clichés. Clichés have become clichés because they've been overused...like romance novels. How many times do I have to read Lindsey used as a catalyst for getting Sara & Catherine together? Or surprise pregnancies. Or heinous rapes/abuse that, of course, bring the two women together.
    
    Now I'm not saying that clichés should never be used. Hell, I've used them myself. But far too many of these clichés are the staple in a number of fandoms...and are making me wonder if I'm actually reading different stories, or just the same story with different titles/authors. Again, if it's not done correctly/well enough, I'm outta there like vampires after smelling garlic.

Okay, this is the initial ten things I could think of. I will refine/expand upon this for further use. We can even do a version for m/m, het, and/or gen writers. If you have any suggestions/comments/questions/retorts to any of this, please feel free to leave a comment...

I would like this person's multiple personnas banned, as I don't feel I should have to repeatedly tell someone to go away. Nor should I have to block all non-buddy-list people because of situations like this.

So it got me thinking...

What is it about men that feel that they need to know WHY about lesbians? Besides the obvious titillation and competition factors, I mean...

I have no problems talking to people about who and what I am. I've never really hidden any aspects of myself in my adult life. Well, except for around rohandupre's parents, but that was a conscious choice for reasons I don't feel like getting into atm. Then again, I also didn't come out to my family until I was 25, even tho' I knew I was bisexual by 10 years old.

I just don't understand it. Maybe the straight guys on my flist [the couple of you that I know of] can help me out here?

What's the fucking deal with men who need to know how lesbians think? Is it simply because they A] want to know how to turn us back into their biatches? B] want to know what to brainwash their girlfriends/wives with so that they get the fantasy of said gfs/wives who will sleep with lesbians? C] want to know what the competition thinks so we don't steal their gfs/wives from them?

As far as being "hurt" by a man? Or being "broken"? Bunch of bullshit. Yeah, I had an incident when I was 15. Some of you may know about it, some may not. If the name Max rings a bell [in reference to me], then you know what I'm talking about. But that's for another post....

The thing is, I knew I liked women when I was 10. My liking women and not wanting to talk to asshats like this dick have nothing to do with being "hurt" or "broken" by a man. It has everything to do with not wanting to speak with the random asshole idiots who want titillation. It's why I put in my profile that I don't want men to randomly chat me up. You would think that these fuckers would get the point, right? *sigh* Sadly, they don't....

So I'm stuck at work for another half an hour yet. See, I'd gotten a customer about 8:15pm PDT who needed help with an issue that we couldn't help her with. Had I read the fucking account notes and SEEN that this was the reason she was getting the replacement phone in the first place, I'd have gotten off the fucking phone by 8:30 so I could catch my 8:46 bus and be home by now. But did I actually read said account notes like I'm supposed to? No! I took the idiot's word that this issue hadn't been happening before to cause the replacement phone to be sent out. What a fucking idiot I am, eh? So I got off the phone and clocked out at 8:43. There was no way I was going to make it downstairs and outside to catch the 8:46 bus, and since my ID badge is having kaniption fits about working, I didn't want to race out there, miss the bus, and be stuck outside in the dark for an hour and a half. So I plopped myself down in the internet cafe/quiet room and am fucking around on the puter whilst I wait to go home. It's nothing that I wouldn't be doing at home, except at home, I could be in jammies, with the TV on, actually typing up my Starbuck getyourtoaster entry [which came out rather interestingly so far, considering it's all been written in my notebook here at work while on hold for idiots customers], letting Stasia claw my thigh for attention/food, and generally just relax. No, I have to be at work, where none of that can happen. *sigh*

And, MAN, is my short-timer's getting bad again! I'll be ever so glad when Friday night rolls around. There's actually a part of me that doesn't even want to try on my QAs, because I know I'll never be on the floor here again. Well, I've pretty much decided that already. Yeah, it can still change, but I'm not holding my breath, you know?

I am having perhaps the worst case of short-timer's disease I've ever fucking had in my entire fucking life!!!

I am stuck between the "I don't give a fuck what your problem is, so shut the fuck up & get off my phone" attitude and the "I'm audi soon, so I've give you whatever the fuck you want to shut you up & get you off my fucking phone" attitude atm toward my customers.

I am so frakking sick and tired of Thunderbird atm! I simply want to copy/paste something without having to go thru a million hoops to do it first.... FFS!!!

Anyone of y'all know what extension would be needed so that I can copy/paste as plain text from Thunderbird 1.5+?

I know there's an extension for that in Firefox, but not for frakking Thunderbird! Stupid frakking thing....I hate trying to copy something from my email into semagic [or just about anything else] and have to do the intermediary level of editpad first...

Any suggestions?

So yesterday, I mentioned that I'd been watching Kate Bush vids, right? And how much I wanted to get The Red Shoes on DVD to watch again? And that shatterpath had taken my big CD book to listen to while she was sitting at the stadium because she'd gotten there early?

*thinks* Okay, maybe I didn't mention that last one, but it's still true nonetheless.

So she brings the book home last night, and I get up this morning all ready to pull out The Red Shoes on CD to listen to since my obsession with Kate Bush is still strong atm while I'm the only one up.

I DON'T HAVE THE FUCKING CD!!!!

As I flipped thru my huge CD book to where I have the Kate Bush discs, I had the sudden realization that The Red Shoes was one of the discs that was lost/stolen back in 1999 when we took my then gf Jackie up to Mount Hood and the disc book [holding 50 discs] fell out of the car when M couldn't keep track of them. And it's never gotten replaced.

*whine*

I want to listen to The Red Shoes, damnit!

And so I'm having to suffice with The Dreaming, which is a good disc in its own right. But it's fucking not The Red Shoes.
