tfo curiosity -- from the only spl
Hey friends who are in the know in the publishing and/or legal realms, I need your help here. The screenshot below is from a FB group [posted with permission] about the legalities re: ownership of fanfic. It's based off this FB post of tumblr screenshots about why disclaimers are used in fanfic.

Here's my question: Can someone give me a good link(s) that either confirms or refutes the claims this person is making re: ownership of fanfic? Is this really the way it is with derivative works? This is mostly for personal edification, but also because I would like to get the RIGHT info out to people, regardless of whether I'm right or wrong. I'm really curious...

ETA: Sources I have found thus far to support my stance in this situation:

I'll keep updating this list as I get more info. And I haven't even touched OTW yet...

Pros & Cons of "A Tale of Two Sisters"
By A. Magiluna Stormwriter

I had far more positive moments in this that could be delineated out than negatives. This actually surprises me. But I'll find a way to condense my top five good moments. Among my other favorites were the scene in Regina's office with Robin and the fact that Lana apparently got to play a little trick on the viewers with Regina's access code, which clearly shows to be 7-1-5-7, which is close enough to Lana's birthday of 7-15-77. I'm amused by that particular little Easter egg.

Overall, I was able to give this premier a 7 out of 10. Most of my issues with the show were with Rumbelle and Captain Swan, because I despise both pairings.

Author’s Notes: You know, there are a lot of things I could still say about the Season 3 finale, but this is a good start. Perhaps one day I'll expand on this some more, but for now, this is what you get. And no, it's not really all that favorable. Go figure…

Beta: Not at all, so all mistakes and opinions expressed are entirely mine.

ouat-intro

So I've been having some serious discussions over the past week or so with both [personal profile] shatterpath and my RP partner/secondary bestie, Brit. All of them have revolved around Once Upon a Time :: the direction of the show, the femslash potential, the cast, etc. And let's not even get into the craziness that is trying to help [personal profile] shatterpath map out the Mills house. Hahaha!

So one of the things that we've discussed is the femslash options on the show. AfterEllen.com has a great article about femslash potential on this show, called "Once Upon A Time" Femslash Ships: Assessing the Fleet. It discusses Aurora/Mulan (SleepingWarrior), Red/Snow White (RedSnow / SnowWolf), Ruby/Belle (RedBeauty), and Regina/Emma (SwanQueen). There are other pairings running about fandom, but these probably are the top four pairings to really consider. The article feels that Aurora/Mulan will be the most likely option for a canon femslash pairing, despite the overwhelming obviousness of Regina/Emma.

More femslashy meta & lots of gifs...Collapse )

And now, this has wandered off from the initial femslash bent I had for this post, so I'm going to stop here before I totally go off on a different tangent about the show's quality in general and its treatment of its talent.

But I want to end this by saying this to Lana Parrilla for her phenomenal portrayal of Regina Mills...

hand-holding -- from lidi
I've been writing femslash since 1995. Early June of 1995, if memory serves correctly. It may have been earlier than that, but I don't think so. I know that the vast majority of my first femslash story, Keep It Precious, was written after Memorial Day 1995, because that was when my first ex-gf decided to completely psychotic on me and break up with me over something that she erroneously blame me for. I fully and freely admit that, in large part, I wrote that story as a way of dealing with a lot of the issues with my relationship with that first gf. Looking back now, nearly 20 years later, I am both inordinately proud of that story and incredibly embarrassed by how immature and self-inserted it feels to me. And yet, I keep it up for public consumption because it's an important part of my writing history.

More of my thoughts on femslash...Collapse )

for real? -- from love_kate_walsh
So apparently, there's been a bit of a hullabaloo in fandom recently. Maybe you've heard about it. Criminal Minds is firing AJ Cook and drastically reducing the status of Paget Brewster, yet Kirsten Vangsness is being kept as the token fulltime female character because she's popular with the fans. [Two more looks at this debacle are on Jezebel and Deadline Hollywood.]
