Working Through a Bottleneck

Over a couple of years, a lot of minis in need of various repairs (mostly rebasing, but also broken weapons and such) got stranded on my prepping station.

The many second-hand purchases I've made lately had me wondering how on Earth I should find the necessary space to handle he not-table-ready minis in order to get them ready for my Warlords of the 41st Millennium project.

Solution: Instead of pushing an ever-growing hill of unfinished busines in front of me, dig in, and get the work done!

The picture below is may pain(t) station - all the minis with white bases came directly from the prepping station, and a couple others had minor repairs done.

Imagine the clutter on the prepping station (below), when all those minis were there, too.

I expect to have the workspace (the green cutting mat) cleared over the next week or two - depending on, how often the weather permits working in the garden - I still have trees to cut up, and branches to cut down, before we can get full sun in the veggie garden.

Christmas Wars: Copplestone Snow Goon #3 - and Yet Another Deco Tree

I have had this finished a couple of days, but the weekend did not leave much time for hobby stuff (buying presents and spending some quality time with the family was prioritised). We also got Whambushed by an Elf on disco rollers when visiting the mall 'Rosengårdcentret' in Odense, which was a bummer (I usually survive Whamageddon. but not this time).

I think some of the 'snow', for instance on the side of the carrot, is actually casting artifacts that should have been filed away; I remember pondering about it when prepping this particular mini.

Christmas Wars: Copplestone Snow Goon #2 - and Another Deco Tree

I managed to finish the second Copplestone Snow Goon today, and also got the base on another cheap decoration tree done.

Shortly from now, this angry fella' will be joining his brother in the display on the sideboard.

I hope to finish the third and last of the Copplestone Snowmen tomorrow, but I also have to get winter tires for the Land Speeder and pick up Lea (and Anna) from Grammar School and drop her off at Lidl in Ringe for her after-school job there (she works seven hours a week on avarage), so I do not know if I shall be able to get enough painting time in.

November Output

November was fairly productive, even a few more models finished than the previous month.

4 Skeleton Archers painted, one Leader rebased.

3 Skeleton Catapult Crewmen painted-

5 Revenants/Skeleton Guards painted.

2 Small Tents painted.

1 Mines of Moria Aragorn painted

4 Mines of Moria columns/pillars painted-

1 Warhammer Quest Barbarian painted.

2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Peregrin Took painted.

2 Middle-Earth Rangers painted.

2 more Gravestones painted.

Another 2 Gravestones painted.

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted

1 old Metal Magic Rogue rebased and repainted/paint repaired-

Yet another 2 Gravestones painted.

1 Mines of Moria Meriadoc Brandybuck painted.

1 Ranger of Ithilien rebased and repainted/paint repaired.

If I have counted correctly, I painted 35 models and rebased and repainted/paint repaired 2 old models in November.

That's OK, I think. December will see a lower count, as I have a lot of iconic pop culture characters and other nice stuff lined up in the pain(t) queue, and they will need more attention than some of the rank.and-file I did in November.

The Last Gravestones - For a While

Two Renedra Plastic. one Citadel Plastic from an Undead sprue (I have a shedload of those).

These were the last gravestones that I had prepped and primed, and December means focusing on some other stuff, so don't expect to see more of this kind until January.

Frodo's Quest: Another Ranger of Ithilien, Rebased and Touched Up

As mentioned, I have been doing some work on this here Ranger, too.

He has been given almost the exact same treatment as his colleague from yeaterday, and now he is ready for the table once more.

Tomorrow is December, and I shall turn my attention to some Winter/Christmas-themed stuff for the next couple of weeks, at least.

Frodo's Quest: Ranger of Ithilien, Rebased and Touched Up

I painted this guy quite a few years ago, and he had suffered some battle damage and also needed a new base.

I did some paint repairs, mainly on the cloak and leather doublet, repainted the bracers and his skin, and also gave him his first set of eyes, ever.

I think he will now do for the table.

As previously mentioned, I have dug out all my Ranger minis, and I am prepping some of them 'on the side' as I want to get more ready for some gaming, also Warlords of Erehwon for which I need at least five (which I actually already have, including the two old Ithilien Rangers and Aragorn).
I have his standing and nearly identical twin on the pain(t) station right now, for the same treatment - if everything goes to plan, I shall have him finished by tomorrow evening.

More Stone Slabs

Soon, there will be a short break from these, as I have only three more prepped, based, and primed.

I found a couple of rogue 'leaves' when tidying up my pain(t) station, so I glued them on.

I hope to finish Merry Brandybuck tomorrow (one of those diminutive plastic sculpts from The Mines of Moria) - he has taken me far too long!

Old Mini, New Life

Something a bit different today, but I am following all my whims at the time being.

I haven been doing some work on this old fella over time. He was block painted many years ago for a D&D character I was GM'ing for back then (apart form the skin which was patially shaded and highlighted).

He has been given a new base (surprise!), and then a wash with Agrax Earthshade on his clothing and gear (apart from the lantern and the knife).

His hair was a stark yellow colour, so I have repainted it with a more natural hue (I hope).

Finally, I have given him eyes.
I have taken som pics from different angles; I am quite pleased with the effect of the shading.
From the back. Nothing to complain about, here.
I used to be able to arrange up to three small pics aside, but Blogger must have changed something - it seems impossible to line up pics these days.

October Output

Taken into account that I came back to the hobby some days into October, I think I have been relatively productive.

Four games played, one of them a solo introduction game, which took me several days to work through, as I had to refer to the rulebook a lot until I had the basics down.

During the week up to the Hell'O'Weekend I prepped, based, and painted up almost an entire sprue's worth of Renedra headstones (17 in all), and a resin pile of skulls I got from a small independent manufacturer some years ago (I sincerely don't remember whom).

These three guys got some TLC and joined my Army of Darkness, hurling stuff at their mortal antagonists.

The archers were a direct consequence of the games I've played, as I felt the need for packing some ranged punch against the mortal instruments of Law and Order.

Finally, this venomous arachnid finally got ready for the table. I started rebasing it onto a large washer a LONG time ago, but in the process of removing from its old plastic base, I broke one of its hind legs, and I kind of dreaded the task of getting it fixed back in its proper place. As it turned out, it was a bit fiddly, but I am pretty chuffed with the final result. It seems that my Undead Host will comprise a Monster Unit next game 😃

All in all 31 minis painted, and one big creature rebased (and quite a few prepping/painting and/or rebasing WIPs on the side). Not too shabby, innit?
