FirstClass – a groupware and communication software consisting of a server and clients, both of which were available for multiple operating systems. FirstClass uses its own network protocol. Extended FirstClass servers can also be accessed via web browser and mobile devices (e.g., smartphones).

FirstClass was originally developed within the Canadian company SoftArc by three former employees of Bell Northern Research. The first version was completed in 1989. In the early 1990s, FirstClass was used by virtually all bulletin board systems on Mac OS. This era ended with the rise of the internet. In 1997, SoftArc was acquired by a Vancouver-based company and subsequently operated under the name Centrinity. In September 2002, Centrinity was purchased by the Canadian company Open Text. Since then, the software has been further developed by the FirstClass division under the Open Text umbrella. The last release was in 2020, and FirstClass is no longer listed as a product on the American website.
