The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) is the political organization that unites and represents the 43 First Nations of Quebec and Labrador. Since 1985, it has defended their rights, supported their governments in their political, social, economic, and cultural initiatives, and provided a common voice to provincial and federal governments and other partners. Its primary role is to promote the self-determination and well-being of First Nations, respecting their traditions and inherent rights.

Yesterday, the AFNQL stood alongside the Elected Women’s Council as part of the unveiling of the MMIWG2S+ mapping initiative from Quebec Native Women (@faqqnw).

This was an important and emotionally significant moment to shed light on realities that continue to deeply affect our communities, and to help provide answers to the families and loved ones of the victims.

The AFNQL wishes to underscore the importance of recognizing these issues and working collaboratively to ensure the safety of our communities, particularly that of women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.

We commend the tremendous work accomplished and reaffirm our commitment to continuing these efforts.
