Seriously. I love everything about this movie. I love that Ripley is strong and broken and unrelenting. I love that she has PTSD and smokes constantly and is too busy and afraid to sleep. I love that she sees danger and terror everywhere, and that it's real<\/i>, which is why she will use anything she can find or learn to defend herself and hers. And I love that Hicks is her perfect match, that he is exactly the same, and that he sees all her strengths and faults and never doubts her for a second.

Do Not Want:

The Stand<\/b> (TV 2020), Fran Goldsmith, Stu Redman

I have some serious issues with this new version of The Stand<\/i> but at the end of the day it is<\/i> based on one of my favourite ever novels so there's a lot of love here too. And I would really, really, really<\/i> love a story that shows Frannie and Stu falling in love on their journey to Boulder. The series skips straight from them meeting\/reuniting to them already being happy and settled together in Boulder -- and that's great, sure -- but I'm after the story of how they got there first. The trope-ridden, sneaking around, making out, falling head-over-heels, romance-in-an-apocalypse love story.

Do Not Want:
- Frannie's condescending attitude in Boulder (see: asking Nadine if she would be Leo's guardian WHEN SHE ALREADY WAS) and magical fixes that exist just so the characters can get away with doing stupid things (see: Frannie climbing on top of the well cover and the ghost of young Mother Abigail healing her when she inevitably falls through).<\/a>

World War Z<\/b> (2013), Gerry Lane, Segen

Prompt suggestions:
- Gerry and Segen's journey from Wales to safety. I loved the country hopping in the movie, so a journey with lots of stops and backtracks and not-so-shortcuts would be awesome. How do they survive in unfamiliar locations in an apocalyptic nightmare? Do they visit any other locations from the book? Does Nova Scotia remain a safe zone or is it eventually broken and a new safe zone created?
- # Christmases Gerry and Segen survive together.<\/i>

Yup, I 'ship it: Gerry\/Segen, but in a slow burn sense. Like, if the movie had been greenlit for a trilogy, I imagine Karin would have tragically died in movie two, and movie three would have ended with Gerry and Segen walking off into a zombie free sunset together (and if not necessarily romantically walking off, then with the hope that it could go that way after the fade to black).

Karin is great, and I do believe that Gerry loves her and their marriage, so please no character bashing or adultery. Just kill her off respectfully (and easily -- there is a zombie plague after all, and the movie ends with the idea that they're all going to go around injecting each other with fatal diseases, heh) and have Gerry move on appropriately. Or, you know, keep her in Nova Scotia with the kids, and instead focus the story on Gerry and Segen's one true partnership as they traverse the world, learning and killing zombies and surviving.

Do Not Want:
- While I know this is a zombie movie, I do not want any baby or child deaths (or babies\/children turning into zombies), or gore (decapitate the dead, sure, but please don't describe every piece of rotting or severed flesh in excruciating detail).<\/a>

Starship Troopers<\/b> (1997), Johnny Rico, Dizzy Flores

Prompt suggestions:
- Dizzy lives. She lives, and she and Johnny are together, and (for all intents and purposes) invincible, and just damn epic at killing bugs together.
- A 'what if' where Johnny doesn't enlist straight after high school. In an attempt to get over Johnny, Dizzy enlists to get as far away from him as possible, but then the bugs attack Buenos Aires... how does she cope with the 'death' of the guy she loves? And, more importantly, what happens next when she runs into him later, and realises he's not only alive but has also enlisted? And why is he suddenly acting like he's missed her almost as much as she's missed him...?<\/i>

I've written in this fandom a couple of times for Yuletide, and requested it once before (but not received), so here I am again for this cracky movie that I love so damn much. I remember going to see this at least half a dozen times the summer it came out in the cinemas, and hating Dizzy's death (and her final words) each and every time. I've given two \"what if\" suggestions above but feel free to choose your own adventure here because all I really need is an alive Dizzy, a Johnny who's a little smarter (emotionally), and a bug-killing super-couple who are just as awesome at making out as they are at marine-ing.

Stargate Atlantis RPF<\/b>, Torri Higginson, Joe Flanigan

My favourite ever RPF OTP, hands down; I just love the chemistry these two have on set and at conventions and implied in interviews.

As far as I'm concerned the fic for these two is at its best when it's all about them having an affair. A happily-ever-after is great and wanted, but what I live for here is the flirting that crosses a line, the angst of falling for a married co-star, the inappropriateness of wanting someone else when you're already taken. Give me the inability to stop thinking about each other, or wanting to touch each other, that eventuates into sneaking around and the danger of being caught. This is definitely a reciprocated 'ship in my head in that they both fall head-over-heels for the other, but when it's Joe being the one to actually instigate something? And when they're both initially clueless about the other's feelings? Perfection.

Do Not Want:
- Erasing Kath from the situation just to make things less wrong or easier.

Star Wars Sequel Trilogy<\/b>, Relationship: Rey\/Ben Solo | Kylo Ren, Fanfiction

I spent the majority of last year obsessed with these two, and would adore a fic that has Ben alive at the end of the trilogy, or one where he doesn't kill Han. I love the bond, and how in sync they are when they fight as a team, and the fact that their relationship is very much \"enemies to love(r)s\". My prompt suggestions are my three favourite plots\/tropes for these two but really anything about them would be great.

Something I accept because it's canon: Rey being a Palpatine. Something canon wants me to accept which makes me roll my eyes: Rey choosing the Skywalker name at the end.

I have no problem with Ben's characterisation of an unhappy childhood but, please, no trashing Han and Leia. They clearly made mistakes but they were also both tortured at various points during their battles with the Empire and most likely came out of the rebellion with trauma and PTSD, none of which would have been helped by their child (un)consciously mimicking Vader, or Luke pushing for force training and accepting Anakin\/Vader. Personal headcanon: I do see Ben forgiving his parents for their mistakes eventually; I don't see him forgiving Luke.

DNW: Leia, Luke or Ben referring to Padme as their mother\/grandmother and romanticising her as a family figure. If Leia told her son any stories about his grandparents when he was growing up, she would have been referring to the parents who raised her on Alderaan, not some Queen\/Senator who she would have likely only knew of as a dead historical figure.<\/a>

Remember back around 2011 when we were all about the rebooted movies, and we fan-cast Rosamund Pike as Christine Chapel against Karl Urban's Leonard McCoy? Good times!!

The 'ship for this pairing in the reboot 'verse was nearly entirely fan-scripted, since there's only a 1-line reference to Chapel in the first reboot movie, so there's not a lot of boundaries here. Borrowing elements from the original series is fine, so long as the story is most definitely set in and about the reboot 'verse.

Mirror!verse fics are also always awesome, especially when my evil OTP have a twisted sense of loyalty towards each other.<\/a>

Trip and T'Pol are maybe one of my favourite ever 'ships, and definitely one where its TPTB dropped the ball. I mean, seasons one and two were only interesting when Trip and\/or T'Pol were at the forefront; season three utilised one of the best tropes there is \"we're stranded\/stuck together\/have to rely only on ourselves\" and got Trip and T'Pol together (though the Trellium D stuff was crap); and season four was a great collection of mini-arcs that derailed spectacularly with a finale that completely failed to read the room.

Things I love about them: their banter, their competence (when not high on space drugs), their feelings for each other, their cluelessness in how to handle those feelings, their potential for so much more...

Anything fix-it for the series will be adored. Anything mirror!verse will be adored. Everything Trip\/T'Pol will be adored. Please!!

When I finally finished watching this series (a shameful 10 years late), all I wanted was Kara and Lee fix-it fic, where they walk off into the sunset, happily bickering and content to spend the rest of their lives together, exploring Earth.

A couple years further on... that's still all I want, heh.

Making out and kissing was a big thing with this 'ship, as was flying, fighting and basically being uber-competent at being pilots but uber-frakked at dealing with their emotional crap. If fix-it fic isn't your thing, anything about these two will make me happy if they're happy (or, at least, happier together than apart).<\/a>

I'm really disappointed that Cara will no longer be in the show moving forward, so if I have to get all my OTP feels from fic moving forward well, then, that's just what I'll have to do! Anything Cara\/Mando will make me happy here -- fix-it fic, happily-ever-after fic, trope fic... you write it, I'll love it.<\/a>

It's disappointing, because The Stand<\/i> is one of my top five favourite novels of all time, and the 1990's miniseries starring (among others) Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise, and Molly Ringwald was a pretty darn good adaption, so with the current COVID19 pandemic still going on, it seemed like a no brainer that this version would hit nicely. But it didn't.

I've spent the series trying to work out exactly why it hasn't gelled for me and the best I can narrow it down to is:
  1. Too much swearing, especially in the first few episodes. I'm not averse to swearing in real life or silver screen, but when every second word someone speaks is \"fuck\", it loses its fucking impact.<\/li>
  2. In what I'm assuming was an attempt to distance itself from the 1990's miniseries, this version focuses a lot on what was trimmed out of the first one, and skips along what overlap there is at a fast speed. The trouble with this is -- the overlap is the MAIN STORY.<\/li>
  3. Starting the story in Boulder, post-pandemic, and then flashing back to everyone's origins at the beginning of the pandemic. Which I can only assume they did this because \"flashbacks are coooooool\" and it's another way to distinguish this from the 1990's version, because it certainly did nothing for coherency.<\/li>
  4. Changing things, either just to change them, or to make it grittier or darker or whatever -- which, were they not paying attention to the source material? this is a story about 99% of the world's population dying in 4 weeks, and then there being a survivor's battle between good and evil, it's already pretty fucking dark! But like, now Flagg's Vegas a place of drugs, sex and gore, where everyone is taking drugs, and cheering on slaves having sex or slicing each other up with chainsaws, instead of working hard to get things going again (in the book, if Flagg caught you doing drugs, or slacking off from your work roster, you were crucified, do not pass Go!, do not collect $200).<\/li>
  5. Some of the acting was great, and I had no issues with the gender or racial changes (a female Ray was a great decision!) but some of the acting was also very much not<\/i> great. And it was mostly not great when we were in scenes that had been changed from the original source material. Sorry, not sorry.<\/li><\/ol>
    I have a lot more I could say but it's late, I'm tired, and I still have a dozen or so chapters to read in my nth rereading of the book, so. Yeah. Am I disappointed I didn't enjoy this version more? Definitely. Am I also grateful that another version was made so that I could once more dive into this apocalyptic nightmare and see these old friends fleshed out anew? 100% yes, yes and yes.    <\/a>

    General likes & loves<\/b>:
    I love my OTP's and stories about how they get together. I like a little bit of angst so long as there's a happy ending (for my character or OTP) at the end. I like third person POVs and enjoy R and NC17 ratings if the rating is relevant to the plot. I love touching, making out, fighting (physical and\/or verbal), sexing (fade to black or not), banter\/good dialogue, and characters who are competent. Five times styled fics are awesome, as are the more traditional beginning-middle-end.

    Tropes et al<\/b> (aka, things I'm a sucker for<\/i>):
    There was only one bed... marriage of convenience... aliens made them do it... fix-it fic... yelling 'because I love you' unexpectedly in an argument... fake dating... time travel fixes everything... stranded alone together... forced to work together... it's the apocalypse... groundhog day time loops... only calling each other by rank until one of them gets injured then using their real name... road trip fic... snuggling for warmth because it's freezing... natural disasters... <3 <3 <3

    Do not wants<\/b>:
    AUs where everyone's in high school, or the wild west, or they're all vampires, or running coffee shops, etc; established relationships, character deaths and\/or relationships other than the ones requested (unless otherwise noted); first\/second POVs; character bashing; porn without plot (PWP), BDSM, non-con, sub-dom, rape, abuse, gore, child harm\/abuse\/death, bestiality, etc.

    Aliens<\/b> (1986), Dwayne Hicks, Ellen Ripley (Aliens)

    Prompt suggestions:
    - \"Alien3\" fix-it fic: the egg is still on board but Ripley and Hicks (and Newt) are able to wake before the alien causes the fire...
    - Ripley refuses to go back to LV426; Hicks (and some of the others?) survive the mission somehow; the alien threat stretches across the stars to Earth. How do these changes change nothing at all?<\/i>

    My favourite movie of all time. The end.

    Seriously. I love everything about this movie. I love that Ripley is strong and broken and unrelenting. I love that she has PTSD and smokes constantly and is too busy and afraid to sleep. I love that she sees danger and terror everywhere, and that it's real<\/i>, which is why she will use anything she can find or learn to defend herself and hers. And I love that Hicks is her perfect match, that he is exactly the same, and that he sees all her strengths and faults and never doubts her for a second.

    Alien (Prequel Movies)<\/b>, Walter (Alien Prequels), Daniels (Alien Prequels)

    Prompt suggestions:
    - \"Covenant\" fix-it fic. Walter follows Daniels, and helps her save herself and her ship from David.
    - Slow burn 'ship fic. Tension and wanting and feelings.<\/i>

    I hated pretty much everything about \"Alien: Prometheus\", from the story to the characters, so I was happily surprised to find how much I enjoyed \"Alien: Covenant\" and the characters of Daniels and Walter.

    I love everything about Walter. His competence, his accent, and his devotion (love?) for Daniels. Similarly, I love Daniels for her quiet strength and competence, and the way she just keeps on going even though she's grieving and in a horrible, terrifying situation. (I'm very much reminded of Ripley and Hicks' partnership every time I watch Daniels and Walter.)

    The only thing I want to see of David is his total and complete destruction, so anything fix-it for the end of the movie would be fabulous, especially if it also progresses Walter and Daniels' relationship.

    Dredd<\/b> (2012), Cassandra Anderson (Dredd 2012), Joseph Dredd (Dredd 2012)

    Prompt suggestions:
    - Slow burn 'ship fic. Tension and wanting and feelings that neither will admit out loud until they can't deny it any longer.
    - Dredd and Anderson have to go on the run together, hiding undercover.<\/i>

    I can admit it, I have a little bit of an obsession with this movie. I love Dredd's stoicism and competence; Anderson's mental skills and intuition. Anything that captures that feel of \"them against the rest of the world\" from the movie, and which adds in some wonderful sexual tension and wanting (and feelings) that progresses to an in-character get together will be adored forever.

    Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle<\/b> (Movies), Alex Vreeke, Bethany Walker

    Prompt suggestions:
    - Bethany, post-\"Welcome to the Jungle\". Dealing with PTSD from their experiences in the game and not just a little heartbroken now that the guy she'd most definitely fallen for is 20 years older than her and, oh yeah, married with kids. Alex, similarly trying to deal with the fact that he's falling for a girl half his age in spite of (or because of?) everything that's happened since he first played that game in 1996.
    - Post-\"The Next Level\", and based on the mid-credits scene, Brantford has become a real-life Jumanji (similar to how the game affected the town in the original \"Jumanji\" movie). How do Bethany and Alex (and the others) survive in the quasi-apocalyptic world and win the game? And what if it takes weeks or months to win the game this time - how does that affect Bethany and Alex's relationship?<\/i>

    My personal headcanon is that Bethany definitely falls for Alex during the game, but that Alex's fall is more complicated and only starts being fully realised after they reunite at the end of the first movie (because, really, until that moment there was still the possibility that his time in the game was all just some horrible nightmare that couldn't have really<\/i> happened...)

    I love their age difference, and the tension in their few brief scenes together in their own bodies, and really just everything about how complicated a relationship between them would be. Note: I do not 'ship their canon avatars or avatar appearances, so no Seaplane\/Shelly or Seaplane\/Cyclone or M\/M or human\/horse relationships thank you; I 'ship Bethany and Alex as they appear in the real world.    <\/a>

    Starship Troopers<\/b> (1997), Johnny Rico, Dizzy Flores

    Prompt suggestions:
    - Dizzy lives. She lives, and she and Johnny are together, and (for all intents and purposes) invincible, and just damn epic at killing bugs together.
    - A 'what if' where Johnny doesn't enlist straight after high school. In an attempt to get over Johnny, Dizzy enlists to get as far away from him as possible, but then the bugs attack Buenos Aires... how does she cope with the 'death' of the guy she loves? And, more importantly, what happens next when she runs into him later, and realises he's not only alive but has also enlisted? And why is he suddenly acting like he's missed her almost as much as she's missed him...?<\/i>

    I've written in this fandom a couple of times for Yuletide, but never requested it, and I feel like that's something that shouldn't be allowed to continue for another year when I just love this cracky movie so damn much. I remember going to see this at least half a dozen times the summer it came out in the cinemas, and hating Dizzy's death (and her final words) each and every time. I've given two \"what if\" suggestions above but feel free to choose your own adventure here because all I really need is an alive Dizzy, a Johnny who's a little smarter (emotionally), and a bug-killing super-couple who are just as awesome at making out as they are at marine-ing.

    World War Z<\/b> (2013), Gerry Lane, Segen

    Prompt suggestions:
    - Gerry and Segen's journey from Wales to safety. I loved the country hopping in the movie, so a journey with lots of stops and backtracks and not-so-shortcuts would be awesome. How do they survive in unfamiliar locations in an apocalyptic nightmare? Do they visit any other locations from the book? Does Nova Scotia remain a safe zone or is it eventually broken and a new safe zone created?
    - # Christmases Gerry and Segen survive together.<\/i>

    Yup, I 'ship it: Gerry\/Segen, but in a slow burn sense. Like, if the movie had been greenlit for a trilogy, I imagine Karin would have tragically died in movie two, and movie three would have ended with Gerry and Segen walking off into a zombie free sunset together (and if not necessarily romantically walking off, then with the hope that it could go that way after the fade to black).

    Karin is great, and I do believe that Gerry loves her and their marriage, so please no character bashing or adultery. Just kill her off respectfully (and easily -- there is a zombie plague after all, and the movie ends with the idea that they're all going to go around injecting each other with fatal diseases, heh) and have Gerry move on appropriately. Or, you know, keep her in Nova Scotia with the kids, and instead focus the story on Gerry and Segen's one true partnership as they traverse the world, learning and killing zombies and surviving.

    Finally, while I know this is a zombie movie, I do not want any baby or child deaths (or babies\/children turning into zombies) or gore -- decapitate the dead, sure, but please don't describe every piece of rotting or severed flesh in excruciating detail. Thank you.
