Although there are no documents available from the Kaškas, the existence of the Kaškas in Anatoli... more Although there are no documents available from the Kaškas, the existence of the Kaškas in Anatolia is known from the cuneiform sources from Assyrian Trade Colonies, Hittite and Neo-Assyrian periods. In Hittite cuneiform texts, the land ruled by the Hittite Kingdom was called as "Hatti Land", and the region in the north and northeast of the Hatti Kingdom was called as "Kaška Land". In the second millennium B.C., before the Hittites came to Anatolia, the Hattians, the creators of a high culture, lived here in the form of great kingdoms and small local kingdoms connected to these great kingdomsIf the Kaškas were the Hattians in Anatolia or their relatives, then they might be ruled by the Hittites, who rst came to Anatolia later and lived with them. If the Hittite cuneiform texts are examined, it seems that the Hittite period from the foundation of the Old Hittite Kingdom to its collapse is lled with endless con icts between Hittite and Kaška sides. The towns and lands in the Hittite and Kaška sovereignty areas have constantly changed hands between the Hittite and Kaška according to the power of the Hittite kings and the Kaška-lords. As a matter of course, it has suffered the same fate in production and trade in these towns and lands. The Hittites constantly seized the products produced by the Kaškas, the animals they raised, and took Kaška people as captive; they obliged them to give soldiers and wine, weakening them in terms of economy and labor, and preventing them from establishing a central power in the region. Therefore, it is clear that the production and trade network of the Kaškas are of great importance for the Hittites. In order to take back the territories, where they had previously lived, and their old economic power from the Hittites who came to Anatolia, Kaškas, made raids with their powerful army under mighty princes on the lands in the hands of Hittites and tried to weaken the Hittites in terms of economic and manpower. The Kaškas used the Hittite prisoners of war, refugees, slave-made temple of cials and artisans as labor force, and they made them contribute to their economy by making production in the works they performed. According to cuneiform texts, Kaškas was economically involved in animal husbandry (cattle, sheep and goat breeding), agriculture (barley, wheat, cereal production), viticulture (vineyard-wine production), weaving (linen weaving), mining (copper and salt) and trade. However, they have also trained powerful soldiers and horses, and produced durable military equipment to challenge the great Hittite army. Kaškas tried to make a living by these production areas and develop their economies. Cattle and sheep shepherds, agronomists, artisans, pig shepherds, linen weavers and traders seems as essential tribes in the production and trade network of Kaškas. M.Ö. iki binli yıllarda Anadolu'da yaşayan Hitit toplumunda ise başlangıçta devletin sınırlarını genişletmek, ekonomik olarak güçlü olmak için izlenen dış politikanın etkisiyle erkeğin egemenliği artmış ve ataerkil düzenin özellikleri belirginleşmiştir. Ancak Hititlerin Anadolu'da yaşadığı çağa damgasını vuran çok yüksek bir kültür ve medeniyet yaratması ile Hitit toplumunda kadına hak ettiği değer verilmiş ve Hitit kadını çağında çok ileri seviyeye ulaştırılmıştır. One of the most important gods which take place in this religious system is Goddess Išhara. This goddess has an important role in Hittite Pantheon including one thousand Hittite sacred gods. Goddess Išhara, who has a Mesopotamian origin, and who is transported to the Anatolia by Hurrians, is also the most important goddess of the Kizzuwatna region. Tanrıların evi olan bu tapınaklarda çeşitli sorumlulukları yerine getiren birçok kült görevlisi bulunmaktadır. Bu görevliler arasında yer alan katra ve hazgara kadınları diğer görevliler ile birlikte pek çok kült ve bayram törenlerinde tanrıyla birebir temas halinde tanrı heykellerinin bakımını yaparak çeşitli kült etkinliklerini icra etmektedirler. During cultic and festival ceremonies, katra- and hazgara-women among these officials performed some rites with other cultic officials, and they renewed the images of gods by contacting with them. Owing to a Hittite belief that the deities could punish the human-beings, the female officials in question performed a number of activities in cultic context, such as “serving to the gods”, as single or with other officials, offering sacrifices to gods by aid of other officials, satisfying them by performing music, songs and dance, and so they always tried to get their favors.

As the Hittites had a theocratic understanding of religion, they often established their cities and temples nearby the sources of water which is the elixir of life. These sources of water and rivers were sanctified as water is a matter that enables bodily and religious clean-up overrated by gods, and a good deal of importance was attached to the cult of water by performing a lot of rituals.
