Is half over and honestly can the year be going so quickly? sigh.
Dad is finally out of hospital but very frail. I'm also a tad unwell and needing a lower ab ultrasound. Lots of occasional pain from my midrift down to the adult playground. Not that there has been any playing going on.
Its been work and family stuff for weeks now. I did however get to make a nice cherry trifle for a special Lodge meeting which went all day yesterday. Very appreciated (just as well - half a bottle of sherry, 2 madiera cakes, 6 eggs and 2 litres of full cream [ I only ever use cream to make custard not milk]).
Weekends have been cleaning this: today was the 5th week in a row and its now 80% clean. When its totally done and I'm happy with the pump pressure I will get a new zodiac pool cleaner to save me the effort - brand new on the market and apparently wil climb tiled walls - $800. (its my parent's pool - if I dont clean it no one will). I've made a start on cleaning the yard but its a hard slog. Eventually it will all be tidy and easy to maintain (once i have thrown out hundreds of plastic pots full of old dirt and water).
A happy Andy in his new overalls. My last pair wore out and I have been meaning to get more for a long time. A woman at the local flea market sells pre-loved overalls. (i keep thinking about the substantial amount of flesh which last occupied these) Its always harder getting large sizes but I'm happy with these. Already taken up at the legs and all i had to do was cut the full sleeves out. This will be my weekend uniform for the spring and summer.
Way bad me went out for dinner last night and didn't get home till 9 this morning. As I was cooking for friends tonight a mad day of cleaning and preparing.
Table set
Fire roaring
Fennel seed and rosemary crusted rack of lamb with caramelised mushrooms and steamed greens.
Was out today and stopped by my favourite bakery for baby snag rolls and a pie. Heated up nicely for dinner tonight.
My new chairs arrived late this afternoon:
Red cedar frames. the colour is pinker due to the flash. All date to about 1870.
Some other new stuff. The art deco lamp was a steal at the market. The shade was in a box on the side of the road and cleaned up nicely. Its 1960s but the shape suits the lamp I think.
Smokers table from the same market - another good buy. Cleaned up very nicely with a bit of elbow grease. I'm a sucker for anything with an art deco galleon....might be the thought of all those husky pirates.
Axminster carpet footstools. These are definately 1930s or 40s and very hard to come by nowdays.
A parrot for the dining table. Couldn't resist this one. A folly I know...but I am full of folly.
Finally...I am really into handsome bearded royals....this lovely parian bust of King George V probably dates to about 1912.
