System... more In this study, the social presence levels of learners in Anadolu University Open Education System, preferred interaction types and the use of learning materials were examined. In the study, in which quantitative research method cross-sectional survey design was used, data were collected online through the Open Education System Learning Management System in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Research data were collected from 1617 volunteer participants. The findings of the study showed that learners with high social presence actively participated in their courses by communicating and interacting with other learners and the instructor, whereas learners with low social presence preferred to study the learning materials on their own. Moreover, learners with high social presence preferred visual, auditory, audio-visual and interactive learning materials, while learners with low social presence preferred text-based materials. Question-based learning materials were equally preferred by both high and low social presence learners. In conclusion, it can be considered important to include activities that increase social presence in live lessons both as an online learning environment and in learning materials. Enriching live lessons with such activities can create a more engaging and interactive learning experience for all learners. The results of the study are discussed and suggestions for future research are presented.

This study targets to investigate the opinions and perceptions of the online and distance learner... more This study targets to investigate the opinions and perceptions of the online and distance learners regarding to online proctored exams. A qualitative case study was employed to explore views of the participants related to the online proctored exam practice. The data were collected from 69 undergraduate distance learners via an online form. A content analysis approach were employed to analyze the data. As a result of the content analysis three themes namely, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and exam administration emerged. The findings indicated that while online and distance learners were satisfied with the online proctored exams as they are secure, convenient, accessible, and reliable they also dissatisfied because of the technical problems and surveillance. Furthermore, the results also revealed that the administration of the online proctored exams needs to be reviewed. It is hoped that the findings will pave the way for future applications and research on the design and implementation of online proctored exams. Implications and future research suggestions are discussed.

With this in mind the purpose of this study is to investigate the main domains of ODL by categorizing research terms and issues, which may lead to a theoretical framework. In this study ten peer-reviewed journals were selected to investigate. 584 research articles published in these journals from 2009 to 2014 have been analyzed and categorized. According to the study, technology, pedagogy, theory, policy, accessibility, design, environment and management domains emerged. Also articles were analyzed for TF-IDF scores according to years and n-grams were created. The study concludes that although there have been many new and ongoing studies in the field of ODL, the field of ODL has been growing needing novelties in research, theory and application of ODL.

In terms of both contemporary and historical point of view, speaking more than one language is no... more In terms of both contemporary and historical point of view, speaking more than one language is not an exceptional circumstance. With the rapid advances in technology in the first quarter of the 21st century, there have been changes in the culture of learning a foreign language (Richards and Rodgers, 2001). In other words, the world of education has been changing hastily and it has also been scrutinized that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have become an important part of learning strategies (Ryan, Scott, Freeman and Patel, 2000). Bearing in mind this fact, being aware of the learners’ material preferences in learning and preparing materials according to different learners with different learning styles is thought to be important for a long-term and permanent learning. The results of the study indicated that the materials should be prepared keeping individual differences in mind.
