Variety of vocabulary learning techniques in a foreign language In this article I will concentrat... more Variety of vocabulary learning techniques in a foreign language In this article I will concentrate on various techniques for learning and teaching vocabulary that support the memorizing of new words, and I will present the results of a survey conducted among students of applied linguistics on this topic. The main aim of this article is to verify the hypothesis that students haven't yet been exposed to different techniques for effective vocabulary learning. First, I will show what the mental lexicon is and how it is organised. How mnemonists learn will also be discussed. Then I will briefly explain the terms 'vocabulary' and 'lexical competence' and show the important principles of vocabulary training. At the end, I will present the most important results of my survey (opinion poll).

First, I will define the term 'autonomy' and then show the correlation between developing autonomy and carrying out tasks. The analysis of an opinion poll consisting of open questions conducted among 14 students of applied linguistics in 2013 at the Adam Mickiewicz University will show the importance of creative and challenging tasks in order to develop students' autonomous behaviour, understood as the ability to prepare, realise and evaluate their own learning processes and to see the legitimacy of the tasks for their future occupation as teachers. The conclusions provide some suggestions on how to develop student autonomy through tasks. Wstęp Przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszej publikacji będzie wspieranie autonomicznego roz-woju studenta lingwistyki stosowanej (realizującego specjalizację glottodydaktyczną) poprzez zadania. Wychodząc od pojęcia autonomii autorka przedstawi wymagania, jakie można stawiać studentom, którzy mają w przyszłości podjąć pracę nauczyciela, w za-kresie ich postaw wobec nauczania języka niemieckiego z elementami kultury krajów niemieckojęzycznych. Następnie zostanie pokazana korelacja pomiędzy zadaniami a rozwijaniem autonomii studenta filologii przygotowującego się do zawodu nauczyciela. Jako przykłady działań służących rozwijaniu autonomii posłużą opisy oraz oceny dwóch zadań zrealizowanych na niestacjonarnych studiach drugiego stopnia w Instytucie Lin-gwistyki Stosowanej na Uniwersytecie im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. W końco-wej części artykułu zostaną zaprezentowane wnioski oraz wytyczne, w jaki sposób można za pomocą zadań wypełnić postulat wspierania autonomii studenta. 1 W tym miejscu pragnę serdecznie podziękować studentkom z Instytutu Lingwistyki Stosowanej (ze studiów niestacjonarnych), które wzięły udział w badaniu, za cenne refleksje i przemyślenia oraz za zapał i zaangażowanie przy realizacji obu zadań.

This article also aims to show whether blogs written by teachers motivate students to learn foreign languages.
The aim of this paper was to reflect the role of student engagement in selfbetterment and differe... more The aim of this paper was to reflect the role of student engagement in selfbetterment and different initiatives in order to develop their linguistic and communicative skills in a foreign language on their own. In order to discover the extent to which students work on their competencies autonomously an opinion poll was conducted among 131 of the 2nd and 3rd year students of applied linguistics. In addition, it was important to find out what academic teachers can do to encourage students in selfdevelopment, through influencing and raising their learning consciousness and giving examples of best practices.
