Dr. Daniel Morin is a cardiologist with a focus on cardiac electrophysiology, which is the study of the heart's electrical activity that controls the heart’s rhythm. He is Director of the UCSF Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory, and holds the Samuel T. and Elizabeth Webb Reeves Endowed Professorship in Arrhythmia Research. Dr. Morin treats patients with all forms of heart rhythm disorders, including using cardiac implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation and other abnormally fast rhythms. He also has considerable experience with left atrial appendage occlusion (e.g., Watchman) procedures, conduction system pacing, subcutaneous defibrillators, and cardiac device extraction.

Research / Academic Overview My research investigates diverse subjects such as sudden cardiac arrest, new applications for cardiac resynchronization therapy, the effects of ablation on cardiac contractility, and optimization of electrical cardioversion. I have published many peer-reviewed scientific papers and have made many presentations at national and international meetings of organized medical societies. I serve as Deputy Editor of the AHA/ACP journal Annals of Internal Medicine Clinical Cases, and I was the inaugural online editor of the journal Heart Rhythm for five years. I am associate editor of several other medical journals, and serve on the Board of Trustees of the Heart Rhythm Society. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is mentoring less experienced clinician-scientists as they grow their own research portfolios, write their own papers, and lead their own studies.
