Andrea Leoni
Team Lead Software Engineer for the Duplicator project at Awesome Motive, Inc.
I've been writing code since I was a kid. What started as pure curiosity turned into something I couldn't put down, and now it's been my career for over 30 years.
These days, I'm leading the development team at Duplicator. We're building a WordPress plugin that millions of people use for backups and site migrations, it's got to work right every time, which keeps things interesting. We're dealing with real-world problems where reliability isn't optional.
The tech landscape has completely changed since I started. I've gone from writing C at a low level to modern web stacks, from desktop apps to cloud infrastructure. But honestly? What keeps me hooked is still the same thing: taking something complicated and making it actually work.
My focus now is less about writing every line of code myself and more about architecture, managing the team, and figuring out when to move fast and when to slow down and do things right. I'm a big believer in practical solutions over textbook perfection. Build things that someone can actually maintain two years from now.
I also enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge when I can, it's one of the better parts of having been around this long.
