
Adem Genç
Born in Rize-Ardeşen/Turkey in 1944. Attended Ankara-Gazi Institute of Education in the Art and Craft Department between 1961-65. Awarded a Turkish Government Scholarship to pursue his studies in England. For five years (1969-1974); he attended both, Bournemouth and Pool College of Art (Dip AD / BA level) and than later, Advanced Painting Department in London-Saint Martin's School of Art.
When he returned to Turkey in 1974, Adem Genç was appointed to Samsun Institute of Education. He first became a teaching Assistant at Aegean University in 1978 and later continued his teaching in Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, where he founded The Applied Arts Department and Painting Department and than soon became The Chair.
Having completed his MFA and PhD Studies he became an Associate Professor in 1987 and Full Professor in 1992. With his scientific project and proposal he was awarded Fulbright Post Doctoral Scholarship and worked at California State University / Chico as an Exchange Scholar (1991-1992). He participated in at fthe Houston International Festival as the designated artist for Turkey in 1995, that year Turkey was the Honorary Country of the Festival. He joined “The Second International Art Biennale” in Beijing, PRC (China) and also delivered paper at the academic seminar in the City of Hefei.
Adem Genç has 26 solo exhibitions in Turkey and 4 solo international exhibitions. Awarded 12 prizes, three of which were First Prizes including the First Prize of Inonü Foundation Painting Competition, which was held in Ankara in 1984.
His work is included in National, international and private collections in Turkey and in abroad (England, Slovenia and USA)
Professor Genç has published two books and many articles. He delivered papers at national and international symposiums in the field of Art, Art Philosophy and Art Education. His comprehensive bibliographic book published in January 2004 by Bilim Sanat Galerisi in İstanbul, with the text by poet and art critic, Ahmet Oktay.
Since 1999 he has been teaching at Beykent University where he has been The Dean of The Faculty of Fine Arts.
