ALESSIA ROMANI

Bridging
design and
engineering for sustainability through open
materials and technologies.

Hi! I'm Alessia Romani, a Western Postdoctoral Fellowship Awardee and Postdoctoral Research Associate at FAST Lab, Western University (Canada).

My work lies at the intersection of product and engineering design, materials, digital fabrication, and sustainability, with a focus on circular practices and open design. My research experience and background merge product and engineering design with materials engineering and design, keeping an hands-on and application-driven approach.

Holding a Ph.D. in Design (with Honors, 2024) from Politecnico di Milano (Italy), I am exploring the potential of openness — in materials, products, technologies, processes, and systems — toward more circular, sustainable, and regenerative futures!
