Foot Terminal Emulator

Foot has ended up being my favourite terminal emulator. There are several reasons:

  • Its runs on Wayland: This is a requisite since I run a Wayland compositor.
  • It is super performant: I’ts just fast, don’t take my word for it.
  • It just works™: It never crashes, and at was what every terminal should have.
  • Handling URLS: One can just open/copy URL’s displayed with keybinds.
  • Opening new windows: One can open a new window at the current working directory at the press of a keybind.
  • Jumping prompts1: Once can scroll back and forward beween prompts, very handy to check the history with the output together.

The last reason seems like its not important, it would generally not be important to most people, but since I spend a lot of time in my blog and opening links to other sites it is a godsend. A task that can take from 8-12 seconds it takes me 1-2 seconds on Foot.

  1. I believe there is a dedicated program that would serve this exact function that also works when you clear the screen. ↩︎
