In the years 1878 – 1914, the Muslim judge law appliers of the Ottoman continued to defend the suits of the living ethnic communities on the island. In these cases they used the rightness of the Ottoman laws. We know that Greek people of the Ottoman Empire had fair treatment at the Ottoman laws.
In this article, we mention some topics such as; personal action, law of torts, assault case, stock case, theft case, smuggling case, goods case, a field rape case and rape case. Financial or imprisonment penalty were given due to the case in the court. Gold, silver and maiden were used at that times.
People were earning their income as farmers and animal breeding. They were having financial problems. According to the court records, we can see that there were thefts and unpaid debts. The shopping were usually done by money or exchange. In some cases we get that districts of Turkey were mentioned which shows us the commerce between Turkey and Cyprus.
The population was 186173 due to the records in 1881. The total population of Kyrenia (Girne) was 13216. 1192 of them were at the center and 12024 were in the villages.
