This text is a combination of speculative fiction, oral history research and citation from a variety of sources. It attempts to envision a future Stockholm (in the year 2040) based on existing science and speculation on exogenous and endogenous threats and developments. It was first published in Swedish in the book, Reform, by Antipyrene Press in 2015. This English version was published with eflux journal in 2018, with a new introduction. The illustration is by Swedish architect Rutger Sjögrim.

In October 2016 I made my first visit to the refugee camps of Western Sahara's Saharawi people near the Algerian town of Tindouf. This was an opportunity to advance my research on the work of an "informal collective" who work with a collection of photographs belonging to Moroccan soldiers, seized by SPLA (Saharawi People's Liberation Army) over the course of 15 years spent fighting Moroccan forces. In this essay, I conceptualize the relationship between two disparate practices centering around photography-that of the Saharawi's political organization, the Front Polisario, and the work undertaken by this informal collective. The latter's work involves exploring the ontological coordinates of these photographs in a dialogical setting. Besides probing the many resonances between the group's work and the Polisario's treatment of the photographs of Moroccans in their possession, this essay is also concerned with the relationship between the conflict and its medial representation.

This article is about R. Crumb's "nostalgic modernism." Drawing on published interviews and theoretical texts regarding nostalgia, it advances the hypothesis that Crumb has developed and articulates a consistent world view, visible in both his art work and published statements.

Mit der fortschreitenden Digitalisierung der optischen Bildmedien haben sich sowohl die Theorie wie auch die Praxis der Fotografie dramatisch geändert. Ausgehend von diesem Tatbestand geht die vorliegende Arbeit der Frage nach den medialen Eigenschaften von digitalen Bewegungsbildern nach, die sowohl dem Fotografischen als auch dem Filmischen zuzuordnen sind. Im Fokus stehen dabei die visuell-technischen Grundbedingungen der beiden Medien. Konkret wird die Entwicklung des Bewegungsbildes im Sinne eines visuellen Ereignisses vom fotografischen Still über die präkinematografische Serienbildfotografie bis hin zum filmischen Sukzessionsbild nachvollzogen. Die eingehende Analyse der besonderen Eigenschaften von digitalen Bildmedien zeigt, dass die herkömmliche Trennung zwischen fotografischen, statischen und filmischen, bewegten Darstellungsformen so nicht mehr gültig ist. Da digitale Bilder nicht an ein spezielles Trägermedium gebunden sind, sondern prozessuale Verarbeitungsschritte durchlaufen, rührt die Bewegung der Bilder hier nicht mehr von einem Apparat her. Vielmehr sind die Bilder in sich selbst beweglich. Des Weiteren werden filmische und fotografische Bilder immer häufiger nach fotografischen Vorlagen konstruiert und sind in ihrer Herstellung damit nicht mehr untrennbar mit der Wirklichkeit verbunden. Diese veränderten Produktionsbedingungen, aber auch die Art und Weise, wie digitale Bilder betrachtet und verbreitet werden, erfordern einen erweiterten fotografischen Theoriebegriff, der sowohl fotografische wie auch filmische Medialität mit einschließt. Die völlig neuen Konzepte von Raumerkundung oder von Zeit- und Raumerfassung, welche die neuen Darstellungsmodalitäten ermöglichen, werden abschließend anhand von drei beispielhaften künstlerischen Positionen erläutert.

MemScreen project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), through the Program for Arts-based Research (PEEK). It is based at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. MemScreen is constructed to find new artistic methods to understand, document and represent narrations, private and "collective" memories, and politics of memory and history. MemScreen's artworks are created with particular methods for collecting and preserving information, and provide new possibilities for the understanding and appropriation of social issues.
