aivi is the artist moniker of Aivi Tran, a Vietnamese-American composer and electronic music producer. They’re also a parent, piano teacher, and the founder of Infloresce Records.

They’re best known for their work with aivi & surasshu, the award-winning composition duo that scored the soundtrack for the animated series Steven Universe on Cartoon Network. aivi & surasshu also composed the series’ credits themes, “Love Like You” and “Being Human”, in close collaboration with Rebecca Sugar, who wrote the lyrics.

Aivi’s music is sincere and soft. Their work embraces femininity, collaboration, and the communal cultural values they were raised with. A lifetime of navigating their mixed-up cultural identity and their hybrid background in classical and electronic music has resulted in their unique musical style, where unexpected sounds duet and intertwine.

In 2019, Aivi began a community movement to coin the genre digital fusion—a style of music that blends the vernacular of early PC music with diverse sounds and genres, including classical acoustic instruments.

In 2020, in addition to composing music for the game Ikenfell, Aivi started the game’s sensitivity and accessibility team.

From childhood to present day, they’ve had the privilege of learning about music from many teachers and peers from different countries and cultures. They received their Bachelor of Arts in Music with honors from UC Davis, where they studied composition with Professor Kurt Rhode.

Outside of music, Aivi is passionate about social justice, Studio Ghibli films, visiting the children’s section of the library, and taking their babies to the beach. They’re married to electronic musician surasshu and based in the East Bay of California.
