Ready to see how it works? I’ll walk you through, step by step, how to create images with AI—right in WordPress.

Step 1: Add the WordPress Image Block

Your journey starts with a familiar tool: the standard WordPress Image block.

In your post or page editor, click the plus (+) icon to add a new block. A search bar will pop up. Just type “Image” and select the default Image block.

You don't need to look for a special AIOSEO block for this step—the AI magic is built right into the block you already use every day.

Step 2: Launch the AI Image Generator

Now that you have the Image block in your post, look at the toolbar at the top of the block.

You'll see a new button labeled Generate with AI. Go ahead and click it.

This will open the AIOSEO AI Image Generator right on your screen.

Step 3: Write a Great Image Prompt

This is where your creativity comes in. 

The quality of the image you get depends on the quality of your prompt. A vague prompt will give you a generic image, but a detailed prompt will bring your vision to life.

Think of it like giving directions to an artist. The more detail you provide, the closer they'll get to what you're imagining.

Follow these tips to get the most out of the AI Image Generator:

1. Be descriptive about your subject. The more specific you are, the better. Instead of just asking for a general object, describe it.

• Vague prompt: dog

• Better prompt: A happy Maltese dog with a long white coat.

2. Set the scene and action. Tell the AI where your subject is and what it's doing. This adds context and makes the image much more interesting.

• Vague prompt: A person working on a laptop.

• Better prompt: A person sitting at a rustic wooden desk, typing on a modern laptop, with a cup of coffee next to them.

Now, let's combine these tips into one great prompt:

“A white Maltese dog with a long shiny coat sitting in a field of yellow and white daisies.”

This prompt gives the AI all the information it needs to create a specific, high-quality image. Once you have your prompt ready, just type it into the field.

Step 4: Choose Your Image Settings & Generate

Once you’ve added your prompt, you have a few more options to fine-tune your image.

Right below the prompt field, you'll see a few dropdown menus:

• Quality: You can choose between Low, Medium, and High. For most blog post images, Medium quality is perfect and generates faster. (A higher quality costs more AI credits.)
• Style: You can include a style in your prompt, or select one here. The generator offers pre-set styles like creative, stock photo, illustration, and more. This is a great way to ensure a consistent look. (Not sure what to pick? Just leave it on the default ‘Auto’ setting, and the AI will select the best match.)
• Aspect Ratio: This lets you choose the shape of your image. You can select Square (1:1), Portrait (2:3), or Landscape (3:2). For most blog post images, Landscape is the best choice.

Once you have your prompt and settings dialed in, click the Generate button at the bottom-right of the window.

Step 5: Review & Add Your Image

The AI will take a few moments to work its magic.

When it's finished, you'll see a preview of your brand-new, unique image right inside the generator window.

Here’s what I received:

Now you have a few options:

1. If you love it: Click the Insert Image button. This will automatically insert the image into the WordPress Image block you started with and add it to your Media Library. 
2. If it's not quite right: Tweak your prompt and click Regenerate. What’s great about this option is that you can ask for edits and view all previous results, so you never lose a former version.
3. If you want to start all over, close the window and type a new prompt. This is a good option if you want to change direction completely.

And that’s it! In just these few steps, you've gone from an idea to a completely original, high-quality image that's ready to go in your WordPress content.

Pro Tips for Getting Incredible AI Images

1. Edit an Existing Image With AI

Whether you want to make edits to an existing AI-generated image, or upload one of your own, you can request edits right in the editor.

Just select your image in the editor, and click Edit with AI.

Then, change your existing prompt or add a new one.

In my case, I added another sentence to my prompt, asking for a yellow bow in the dog’s fur. Here, we can see the result:

2. View Image History to Access Previous Iterations

If you’ve been playing around with edits, you might want to revisit a previous version.

AIOSEO makes this super easy with the Show Previous Results button. 

When you click this, you’ll see the images created from earlier prompts. In the screenshot below, you can see how I was changing the color of the dog and its bow. 

To use any of these previous versions, just select the one you want and click Insert Image.

3. Get Creative With Your Requests

While the most obvious use is to create images for blog posts, you can create so much more, too. 

For example, I like using the Image Generator to create blog featured images.

You can do this by clicking the AI button next to the feature image settings of your post.

This will open the AI Image Generator, and you can follow the same process as earlier. For featured images, I always give it my post title too so that it can include that in the final result.
