So, as I discussed last night, I haven't written much lately. Not since my dad died in 2012, really. But I want to write again. In that vein, I'm going to make a claim on a prompt table in 10_fics in the hopes that it'll make me write. I'm going to claim this for the Arrow fandom, and I'll be writing Olicity (Oliver Queen/Felicity Smoak), because I adore them and I'm obsessed and Felicity makes me smile. Thanks to xfirefly9x for pointing the way for me. ♥

I was going to say "real update later" but the only thing to say is the lab was very quiet today, which means I actually got a lot of work done. Amazing how that happens when your boss doesn't come in and interrupt you every 30 seconds.

I was told by the teenager that I'm an "awesome, super-cool mom" and he thinks it would be "amazing" if I came and talked to his biology class. They're talking genetics and ethics right now and are getting ready to start a unit on evolution. Believe it or not, I actually have opinions on these topics. :P

Also, I did ab exercises today, and I can actually tell that I have abs (because I can feel them, I mean, not because I have any definition in that area...yet).

So, I was going to be all cheerful, because, hey, I only have three days until I'm off work for 10 days in a row, and I got a lot accomplished at work today (even though I came in to find that mice had gotten in and destroyed a flat full of seedlings I planted on Friday...chewed them all up). But then I went to go transfer the laundry from the washer to the dryer and and found the washer stopped...full of water and wet clothes, with the top locked. I tried everything I could--unplugging it at least let me unlock it and get the clothes out, but nothing else got it to start.

So I think I'm getting my washer repaired for Christmas this year. Lucky me. :-/

Anyway. Now that the reveals are up at the hg_seasonsfest, I can say that I wrote Harry Potter and the Preeminent Pumpkin Patch Ploy for doraeazure (who just so happens to be my newest LJ friend. :D).  You can read it on my fic journal, if you so choose, or at the community.

So. I'm going to focus on the fun fandomy stuff instead of the stupid mice eating my plants or my washer dying and ruining one of my favorite shirts (it's mostly red but it has a white "underlayer"...except the white is now pink because the washer is stupid and broke.)

You gotta love a job that pays you to make mudpies. (I had to add more soil to some of my plants so they won't fall over, and the soil has to be wet-ish when you do that, so yeah. Mudpies.)

Also, we had our holiday party at work today. It was...awkward, like usual. I had no idea that half of those people even existed, much less worked in our building. But I had fun chatting with my labmates, and some of the food was really good (it was pot-luck).

Will and Luke are at the annual Boy Scout troop LAN party. Will was oh, so excited to go. Not. He (and the rest of the men, really) hates this thing--it's a lock-in and he has to be there with all these boys who are just playing video games all night long. Luke, on the other hand, was so excited to get to go.

So I'm writing/beta-reading/etc. while he's gone. (Or I will be after I go make myself some tea...or maybe some hot cider. That sounds good, too.)

So, I've decided. I'm not going to try to do the real NaNoWriMo. It's just not going to happen until we don't have 8 bazillion things to do with our kids in the evenings. Instead, I'm going to do my own version of NaNoWriMo, sort of. My goal isn't going to be a certain number of words, it's going to be finished fics. There are 4 one-shots that are getting relatively close to being beta-ready, so I'm going to work towards getting them done. My only problem is going to be deciding which one to work on first.

So all y'all who get asked to beta my stuff... Count this as fair warning.

I'm going to start making my way through the masterlist tonight. I grounded myself and wouldn't let myself read anything until after I'd gotten mine done, so I haven't read any of them, other than my gift *waves at mollywheezy* and the fics I beta-read, which were all awesome. But if those fics (by rumpelsnorcack,  plaid_slytherin, and irislock ) are any indication of the quality this round, then I'm in for a real treat.

Y'all need to make sure and read irislock's when she gets it posted, btw. You won't be disappointed.
