Nota card post. lol

So, I live in the Texas Panhandle, which is the plains. Not many trees, minimal hills, an occasional giant crack in the ground (canyon) means that we get a lot of wind. Fortunately, unlike an unfortunate city to our south, most of the time it's not dusty.

But OMG yesterday was nuts. Front coming in? Check. Wind from hell? Check. Freezing your patooties off with the combo of temp and wind? Check. But I got home, and there was crap everywhere. Almost literally. My garage faces west, and had maybe 1/8 of an inch dirt/crap on the floor. My backyard, which faces north, is *covered* with dirt. The sidewalk to the gate is under up to 2 inches of dirt. W.T.F?

Now I see how buildings can get covered so quickly. I used to think that was crap, but dang.

Why did I say dirt and crap? Well, because all the loose dirt, shavings, and horse poop from the stall runs, the barnyard, and the manure pile is in mu backyard. The dogs are happy because, you know, horse poop.

I wonder if part of it is because the little barn between the house and manure pile is down, but it's been gone for several months, and this hasn't happened before. Hopefully it's just a one off.

I took some okay pictures last night. The second one is where I scraped some dirt aside to prove that was the sidewalk.

Yay internet!

Yesterday we had 'strong winds' with gusts to 65mph. Wheee!!! But, around 5pm my cable and internet went out. Suddenlink said they were working on it. I was able to watch a movie on my DVR, so I wasn't worried.

When the text came that said they were done, and mine still wasn't working, then I was concerned. I tried power cycling my internet and cable. No go. And, just so you know, once you power cycle your DVR you have no access to anything on it until it's all fixed. BTW.

Turns out the line to my house was blown down. BUT, I still had electricity, so yay!

I watched a movie on my computer (no, I don't have the DVD player hooked up to my TV, why do you ask?), and surfed LJ on my iPad. Oh, also discovered for sure that SofaPlay works as long as the indoor router works. I just had no movies or eps on my computer to watch, and didn't have internet to download (and SofaPlay doesn't work with the DVD. Darn).

So that sucked, but the guy was really friendly and helpful when he came today. When he noted it was all outside he said I could leave. And he said he was going to place an old splitter, or whatever it was called. So I got to meet my team for lunch. :D

Snow!

They called it a blizzard, and I suppose it was. Started in the night, and kept going until about 4pm today. The major highways into my town were all closed. Road cleaners weren't even bothering. Nasty.

We canceled clinic. I had to ask the hospital to just ask a resident to see my one kid I have there in case something happened. And now my clinic manager has talked me into not even going in tomorrow, as well. It's only a half day, and not worth it. Hopefully someone will be able to get out to see my kid. I live in the country, so definitely hard to get out, but even partners who live in town couldn't get out. (Although one apparently already has her parking lot clean, and is going to open in the morning. grrr...lol)
I feel anxious about not going in. We worked Sat and Sun, but missing today and tomorrow is icky. (And no, I'm not going to shovel snow. You don't shovel 4-5 foot drifts. You hope the person who has your tractor brings it over and clears your drive.

Oh, and I tried to open my garage door? Nope, not even.

I took some pics, but didn't get out after it finished until dark. I edited the pics, but they still kind of suck.

On the walkway by my house is a 4-5 foot drift. In front of my barn-15 foot drift. I absolutely swear. And I closed all the barn doors this morning, so I had to use the main door. Luckily there was a small path close to the barn wall that was lower, but it was still about 3 feet. And man, a lot of the snow is hard pack, but I feel really sorry for people who have to walk in the snow now-sinking up to your thighs really sucks. (Why don't I have snowshoes again?)

Also, the gate to the barnyard? Iced shut. I had to slip through the wire part of the fence, hoping to not land on the electric part. !!

Inside the barn has snow because A) the run doors were open until I fed this morning, and B)the seal around the main roll-up isn't airtight.

It really wasn't that cold inside the barn, honestly. And I opened up the runs again this evening. It was fun watching Rex snort and bolt outside to wade through the snow. Elle did, too, which surprised me, although the end of her run was completely clear. (Nasty north wind, makes areas very clear, or very full.)

Alright, pics.Collapse )

Outside

All of a sudden it's dark, and windy, and thundery, and nasty. Feels like a winter night at 8pm at my desk, and it's really 4pm on a summer afternoon. Yikes! We weren't supposed to be bad again until Friday.

Rain

It's raining today. Just had a bunch of thunder, and now it's coming down in a steady mild way. Unusual for here. Usually it's a half hour of thunder/lightning/pouring, and then it stops. This reminds me of Oregon. I love this. Sitting inside, watching it. Or being outside in it, with a raincoat, and the water dripping off the sides...*sigh*

007 again, new kitten, other stuff

Have I mentioned how much I absolutely ADORE Judi Dench as M? Well, I do, and she most totally rocks, especially against Daniel Craig. They work SO WELL with each other. heeee!

Marcy's been asking for another cat. She's been really lonely, although I think she's not too sad about Polo anymore. She's just never been on her own. At all.
So I've been thinking about it. Last week I went to PetSmart, and looked at the kittens, but I just couldn't. Talked to some people who might have kittens in about 6 weeks. Today I went to PetSmart again. Found a kitten. Took him home. eek! Marcy's pissed. Hissed at him for hours. He's hiding in the other bedroom. Poor kid. But my nose has been itching. I hope it doesn't cause trouble. He's kindof long haired. And I suddenly got all freaked out, missing Polo. sigh. I hope I did the right thing. I think it'll just take us a few days to really figure it all out. And, need to give him a bath. Poor thing won't know what'd hit him.

Rained 2.6 inches here in the last 2 days. 1.9 of it was last night. Seriously. Very scary. Was fun driving in today, looking at all the full bar ditches, and lakes, er, I mean lawns. Yah, I meant lawns. ;)

Was going to ride-especially since I couldn't let the horses out because of the wet-but with the kitten, and going into town, and etc, I didn't make it. Bad me. Gotta do it tomorrow. :D In the arena. Where it's dry. And light. And really, really cool. hee!

Windy!

(For my dad, who thinks it's not that windy down here) *evil grin*
HA! There are going to be gusts up to 50-60mph! Winds averaging 25-35mph. Although, we may have already had the 50mph gusts. And some light sprinkling.
oy. Dontcha just love wind? *rolls eyes*
