They release the new episode of Ugliest House in America on streaming today. I love Retta. Looked on max, and they still only have 5 seasons of Great Pottery Throw Down. Dang. Did find the Secrets of the Zoo shows on Disney+ of all places. The other zoo show and some British zoo shows are on max/Discovery.
14. Mark Antony was born today in Rome in 83BCE. Have you ever seen “Cleopatra” starring Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and Richard Burton as Mark Antony?
I think I've seen pictures, but never the movie.
15. If you could, would you like to be a little bit taller or a little bit shorter? Never shorter. I occasionally would like to be a wee bit taller to look more elegant in the saddle, but I usually like who I am. Well, I try to, anyway. lol
5. Are you looking forward to any TV shows this year?
Lately I've been shying away from a lot of newer shows for a few reasons 1-I get distracted and don't finish watching them if they're doled out. 2-there is a lot more drama and angst in shows right now, and I don't do drama (or embarrassment). So I watch a lot of B horror, monster, and weather related (tornado, icenado, apocacold, etc).
But I do like things like (Spring, Halloween, Summer, Holiday) Baking Championship, Maine Cabin Masters, Ugliest House in America. :D
*Just saw part of a game where Fiji beat the crap out of US rugby. Ouch. Pretty men, though.
*I am sort of watching soccer. The soccer men just lost to France. Two men were doing the commentary during the game, but the after chat is two women. They have better energy. Funny enough, in the non US game earlier today there was a man and woman commentating. I think.
*Women's soccer starts tomorrow.
*This is the first time I am absolutely happy I have Peacock streaming. (I got it for American Ninja Warrior)
*And now I forgot the other things I was going to say. lol
*While cleaning stalls today I saw a semi with a load of power poles skid around the corner to the cross street. Like, he barely slowed down, even. I was shocked the trailer didn't hit the ditch on the other side.
*We all know I like B movies, but this one I'm watching right now is OMG. First, it's based in Texas, and they had saguaro cacti. Some of the accents sounded like first year drama students. And then they live in a town of 8500 people, but it takes 40 minutes to get to the mall? A real mall. And they have their own TV station. Casper Van Dien is overacting so much. He's usually not bad, but dang. Oh, and don't forget the part of Texas they're supposed to be in is the hill country. And the 'small town' set they have only has scrub. And all the righteous crap from the lead woman, OMG. Also, when the first EMS report comes on everyone is frightened. Uh, no, we don't freak out like that. And the views they keep showing of clouds then showing the people freaking out, not the right clouds.
*I finally ended up with covid. Dangit. Thought it was just a sinus infection (get those pretty regularly), but I checked because our numbers have gone up, and I wanted to be sure for church.
It's mostly snot. But also I have less energy, which is the frustrating part. Just enough energy to clean stalls and feed, but not enough to ride. At least I don't have the stalls piling up.
*Spent a large part of the 3 day weekend on the couches. One I get to sit on, and if I want to lay down, I have to go to the other one (because the cats are laying on the sitting couch. I must use the other, newer, not quite as comfortable couch. lolol)
*Since I'm whining, the snot and whatever makes both my reflux and my heart rate worse. Have I mentioned that the medicines I usually take for this also now increase my heart rate? Today I was feeling more energetic, then right before I went out my heart rate went up to 112. Fun times. Still cleaned stalls because who else is going to do it. (I generally am at 70-80.ish)
*Haven't ridden since Tuesday, and I feel like a lazy ass. (Yeah, I know)
*Binged "Hack my House" on Netflix. While I am over the term 'hacked' as a cute way to refer to fixing things up, the people on the show are really good. They spend time with the homeowners and evaluate use and flow, then a decorator, an engineer, a construction person, and a crazy man discuss ways to redo the areas they're having problems with. Did I mention there was an engineer-woman? And a crazy person? And the construction person is a woman who dresses very spiffy? The designer is totally a cute little gay princess. If you can ignore the constant 'hack'ing, it's totally worth it.
*I still wish Taco Time was a thing here. I used to eat soft meat burritos with extra sour cream when I was sick, and it made me feel better. I'm sure it'd taste different now, but I'd like to give it a try.
*wanted to do some yard work this weekend, but no spoons.
*Good thing I didn't do any yard work because I now have a bunch of blue dragonflies. I thought they were only near water. ? They are in the taller weeds.
*Antiques Roadshow and Celebrity Antiques Roadshow on Pluto is now on the episodes filmed after Covid started. I remember the spacing and etc, but it's really weird and actually kind of annoying to see them doing this in the show. And they're watching the auctions on iPads from parks and estates all socially spaced out instead of being in the auction room, which may be what really is annoying to me. lol It's an odd reaction, I think. But also, they're rerunning the same ones frequently, which they don't usually do. They still have the visits to historic and interesting sites, so I'm happy.
*Someone whined too much about not enough rain here. Jerks. The last 1.5 weeks we've had rain off and on. And on. And on. My stall runs are lakes. I have random water in in barn. I have to be careful walking to the barn in case I slip and fall on my ass. The horses have been in the small pasture since May 12th to save the big back pasture from getting torn up. It is nice to have rain and actual grass growing in the pasture.
*Went to a show with Zolar weekend before last. We learned some good things. Had a really harsh judge. For some reason the first day they had two judges (Which they don't/shouldn't at my level for regular shows), and K had some amusement reading the difference between the two. But, K was there this time (she usually doesn't come to my shows), and we worked on things like me being more relaxed and having better posture. Zolar was also tense, so wasn't loose over his back. And then the second day he was so slow on his second test because he was tired from being stressed. Also, tests at a show are always more tiring than at home. But, K says she wants to come ride him the day before our lessons this summer and get him more consistently working through and doing changes.
*Managed to pick up a screw in my truck tire at the show. Luckily, I didn't notice until a week later, when I went to drive the truck, and she was like, dude there's no air in my tire. Thank God for a slow leak because the show was 4.5 hours away from home.
*You know that thing where you think the cats peed in the laundry room, but then you realize it's just your manky barn clothes from yesterday? Yeah, all this rain is making it feel like we're in Houston. But without the nearby Costcos.
My favorite holiday is Halloween. I'm not a big decorator of my house, and am not really great at making costumes, but I still love it. Luckily most of the people in the clinic are also into dressing up, so we do some fun group costumes. This year we're being the 'spice' girls. I'm curry. And they're going to decorate the clinic with kitchen stuff. (It can be a little hard because everything has to be kid friendly-nothing scary).
My second favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because food. :)
TVs: Halloween Wars, Halloween Baking Championship, Outrageous Pumpkins. lol (I need to get a new DVR so I can record them).
Netflix: Watched Office Invasion today. 4.5/5. Funny polemic about how corporations treat their employees, but then aliens. I swear it's worth it. Also, Nailed It:Halloween dropped on Friday.
Took Zolar to the vet Saturday (best time for me in the next week) for lameness. Right after I got there an emergency came in. Surgical emergency. So, I left Zolar there and went to eat lunch. Came back, waited some more. It was sad, though, because the kids that brought the horse in were all so worried and upset. I hope their horse survives. It did make it through the surgery. (I prayed for them, poor kids)
Zolar passed the lameness exam for the most part, but C(the vet) injected his hocks anyway (K and I were worried about him not sitting back enough+his age+some head bobbing at times was due to that). C has been concerned about his back muscling before (not enough of it), and this time he lasered his back and wants to do a med that will help with that.
My mom called while they were lasering Zolar. Apparently she went to the ED the night before because she had one too many glasses of wine (she's okay). Also, there is a small herd of deer in the backyard eating the apples(?) that have fallen and not been picked up. The drunk deer scare my mom, so she is taking their garbage in the car around the street to the alley where the garbage can is. lol Drunk mom, drunk deer, drunk horse (they drug them when they inject joints).
I am doing a sleep experiment the last week. Generally, I stay up a bit too late reading, and by the time I get to Friday I'm really tired, and take an hour nap each weekend day if I can. The last week I have stopped reading right at 9:30 to get in bed by ~10.
No naps this weekend, but I did watch some bad TV while laying on the couch for an hour or two. But, this morning at church my brain was not in gear. I was part of the Psalm duo, and when M asked me to sing my first line a cappella so he could walk into the seating and listen I just couldn't think of my note. This happened TWICE, even with him giving me the note previously. The third time he played two measures before without me asking, so I could get it, but dang. It was a bit different than usual because I was singing the first note an octave up, which could have been part of it. I jut felt like an idiot.
When I'm tired I don't have/remember my dreams as much. This week they were very vivid-I don't remember them, but they are often weird/somewhat disturbing. I think that cuts down on my sleep, but I don't know. I kind of want to go back the other way just to cut down on the dreams. (I have a big imagination anyway, but atenolol that I have to take makes them so much more.)
I'll give it one more week. Probably.
Oh, skipped the opera Saturday night. Surprise! /not. But spending 5 hours at the vet, hooking then unhooking the trailer, and being cold and wet was not fun. I just wanted to stay in, read, and chill. I was looking forward to it previously, because it's a comedy, but I just noped out. (also, I heard it was really long, and even the friend that ribbed me for not going said they left at the first intermission, so there).
Just got back from the 3 day dressage show in Santa Fe. Didn't show Friday. Rode two tests Saturday. Rode two tests this morning, packed up my stuff and my horse, drove home (4.5 hours), unloaded my horse, unloaded my stuff, started laundry, attended half a zoom meeting (for small group), and and now drinking my second cup of tea.
(You have to bring a lot of crap with you to a horse show. They 'provide' the shavings at an exorbitant fee, and there are water faucets. Everything else you bring-hoses, hay, water buckets, water bucket hangers, hay holders of some type, manure rake, manure bucket, grooming equipment, saddle, bridle, boots, saddle hanger, bridle hanger, show clothes....and on and on... most people also generally bring chairs, a table, and some sort of 'flooring' for the tack stall-stall next to yours (that you also pay for) that you can lock your stuff in so you have it right there on hand. Trailers are usually parked somewhat far from the stalls. Oh, and before the show you have washed the horse, saddle, bridle, boots, and are praying that your light grey horse doesn't lay down in the poop. :) You decide for yourself if it's worth it and why you want to do it.
*Third level is judged so much more harshly than second. We did okay, but didn't get the scores I wanted. Oh well, we'll just work on it more, and try again.
*I'm pretty sure it's wrong to obtain a boyfriend just to help me at shows. Also, I'd have to deal with them during non-show hours. (I was pretty much the only one there all by myself)
*I am sick of dogs being at horse shows. I'd say you have to do more work if you bring a dog, but it's often people who have people doing their horse work. But the barking, and dog/dog arguments gets really annoying. Especially when they're barking at you and you're just walking by their truck, which is in front of your stall.
*At first I thought electric bikes were lame, but they are easier to load than a golf cart, and probably a little cheaper, as well. For big show grounds.
*I still hate shavings as bedding. When you clean a stall with shavings you take out half the shavings with the poop, and there's not much to sop up the urine. With pellets, it's like kitty litter-easy to sift and urine collects and stays together to get removed.
*If there is water damage on the walkways and in the bathroom of the hotel, then there probably is mold. My allergies got so bad while I was there that I am suspicious about that. Coughing so much with all the crap draining.
*I especially hate mexican food in the morning.
*Now I remember that show grounds from going with Laura 15 years ago.
*Santa Fe has a lot of trees planted in town-yay! All of those trees are the exact height of store signs-WTF? There's not even little placards in the twisty turny roads in the shopping areas so you have to just drive around and guess where something is. Also, extra special suck with a 2500 diesel truck.
*wicking underwear does not stop the chafe when riding a sitting trot for too long while sweating. argh! Maybe the next try will be something much tighter? These undies help cool me off quicker than cotton, but are a little baggy. But the cotton was tighter. *sigh*
*there were other girls/women with my body type there. As I noticed and started looking around, there were a good number. And some of them were not wearing a coat, and just letting the roll show. (coats were waived because it was so hot, but I wear mine anyway because it looks better on me) Often there are just a lot of little stick girls/women walking around-is it me, or do they think they are the shit because they look like an ariat ad? Or maybe it's just because I'm cranky. lol
*I really do like the shows on The Weather Channel. :)
*The next podcast won't load when you're on a road in the middle of nowhere on the way to Santa Fe. But it will load on the highway afterwards. (listening to the No Sleep podcast lately)
All the things have been happening. Short ish, because I really need to go to bed. (such a lie! Still writing 30 minutes later. Sorry it's so long)
First, I got a new puppy. Another GSD from the breeder down the road. Born March 15th, and I got him about May 15th. This one is a little boy named Balky. He's very large (even though he was the littlest), a bit hairy, and very happy. Also, sleeps a lot. lol He's been going to the clinic during the day. Decided to sleep outside at night all on his own about 5 days ago (yay). Still will pee in the house if I'm not watching so carefully. Had to gate off the front room so he can't go pee in my bathroom (the little shit).
Second, Zabacaxi, my horse in training, went to his first big boy show. Poor guy had never spent the night anywhere else, so he was nervous, and was calling. A lot, apparently. lol But it got better as the weekend went on. I saw videos, and he really was doing his best to listen to C, even though he was obviously nervous.
Three day show-first day he was in 4th level, more to give him some experience, but he did okay.
I got back from the barn tonight in time to see the end of women's short program- our girl, and the girl from the ROC. Ours did okay, but did fall once.
But OMG, that little girl from the ROC. I was amazed and in awe. It was so quiet, and perfect, and graceful, and powerful, and all the things, OMG. There really are no words. And this is has to be her first year in seniors since she's 15. Hopefully she'll be around for a long time, like some of the pairs Russia has had. Although the talking heads say that the field there is so deep, but even then she's above them all.
Interesting that singles juniors can be up to 19 years old. I suppose that gives kids a chance to decide when to move up to seniors when they're ready and not be pushed into it.
Point is, though, watch her. She rocks like a rocking thing.
