More pictures!

Because I can. And they're cool.

First, we got some free donuts at work from this fun place. (This last week we got something almost every day. It was horrible because after a few days we just didn't want anymore cupcakes. lol)

Second, more pictures from where Tess was training.

Today

My last day here with the trainer. eek!
Now I take Tess and the cart home and do it on my own. Gonna get a friend to help me the first time or two, at least.

I've been taking my time here as a sort of vacation, even though it's a little-ish town (35,000). Took a walk around a lake yesterday (maybe pictures tomorrow), took a nice outside lunch on the square. Ate a lot of ice cream. lol And, for once, I actually used the swim suit I always bring with me on trips-hot tub.

Pictures!

Things

*I was looking through my list on Netflix for a good movie to read to. Why are all the ones I put on there lately subtitled? lol

*Got back from Sulphur Springs Texas on Wed. Was supposed to stay from last Saturday to this Saturday, but the weather was getting bad. Since we were working outside, and I didn't want to freeze...

I was originally going to pick up my mare Tess, and bring her home. However, she's not quite ready, especially considering her behavior on the first day. She was a complete ass. Probably because I was there, of course. We finally got her hitched up, and I sat in the back while he took her around the arena. There was much trotting, and some cantering. Finally chilled. Little brat. lol

The next day she was easier to hook up, and he drove her again while I sat in the back. She did much better. She showed her stuff. :) She looks so content with a cart; she's relaxed and swinging her legs, her little tail string down. And her cute butt!!
I did get to drive another horse that day. He said she was harder because of how she preferred to bed to the right. It was good. Tess was pissed, though. lol

The third day we started with the other horse (and Tess tied up). Then Tess, who I finally got to drive. She was acting a little shy of a place, and had a little baby fit that I had/got to deal with. lol Good because I learned how to deal with a problem. A little scary. lol But brakes! Not good to use too much! Damnit. lol

Originally he said that I could buy a used two wheeled cart, but this time he said I would need a cart like he was using to train. Much more sturdy for her exuberance. :) Here's an example: https://www.carriagedrivingessentials.com/product/sold-medium-pony-marathon-carriage/
Hopefully he can get me a used one. She's going to stay down there another month or two.

*Did not go back to work this week. Have instead sat around reading. My poor butt is sore. Also, it's really freaking cold here. Below freezing, and will have a high of 3F? tomorrow. Had to haul water to the big trough last night. I'm hoping my heat gun will work on the faucet tonight. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

*The cats seem to think it's time to eat at 4pm. They stare at me, and Bogey starts meowing. Persistent little fuckers. I never feed until 5, but hope springs eternal.

It worked!

*I watered part of my front lawn so I could get the trees today. Tonight, rain, rain, rain! lol

*Happy because Paramount channel played(is playing) a Friday the 13th marathon most of the day. Since Syfy stopped playing monster movies on Saturdays there hasn't been much good on Saturday nights.

*The last two weeks my lesson with Zolar has been at my trainer's. Her arena is outside, and on a slight hill, so riding in it is much harder than mine. Good for us. But we were there because she has cavaletti, and wanted to use those to help him with his canter changes. Maybe helping a little? But he can sort of jump now. lol (She's the one going over the cavaletti. I am not a jumper person. At all). She did figure out that his right hip seems weak, and that may be the problem. (he'll do right to let changes, but not left to right. )

Last week's lesson, though, was hard. So very freaking hot, and I'm used to riding under cover, and not in the full sun. I think I got a little heat exhaustion. This week I'm going to take my big water cup/cooler since the two drinks I had with me wasn't enough.

*So, hooked up Tess to the little cart this week. She was a little looky, but stood for the most part. I noted some things that could be better, but decided to walk her anyway (with a halter and lead). She did good for the one circle. Then I carefully changed direction because the poles were a little too long (and probably too high) and interfered some. This is where I thought I should put her up, but didn't. Went to change back, and she looked at something on her other side, maybe it poked one of her scratches, I don't know, but she panicked. Tried to get her to calm, but no go, so I let the lead go. She did a good job of trashing the cart, but only tore one part of her harness (color me surprised). She finally got free of the cart, and put herself in the corner with much snorting.

*sigh* and she had been doing so well, too. I figured it had to happen at some point (because that's what everyone has said), but it still sucks. I was hoping she'd continue to be cool with it all. Of course, it would have helped if I would have listened to myself and put her up earlier. :/

I've left the cart in the barnyard so she has to walk by it, but she gives it horrible cranky looks. Zolar just wants it to be edible. Rex doesn't care.

Once again I looked for someone close by that trains, and the closest one is 6 hours away, and hasn't replied yet. So far it looks like we're still on our own.

BUT one of the videos has the guy hooking up in a round pen, which is a great idea-if they panic, then there's not a lot of places to go. I need to get some more panels for mine, though, since it's just set up for liberty and riding right now-too small.

Going to go back to the PVC poles, one at a time again. Need to get a new backstrap, but it's not really needed with the PVC stuff. Thinking about getting another inexpensive cart (there's one at Stateline tack), but going to see where her measurements put her (carts are made for different heights of horses). OTOH, a nice cart would be more solid and, well, nice. Nice cart also has nice price. :/

*Finally asked for an estimate for someone to take out the horrible and crappy working/looking fluorescent lights in the kitchen and put in can lights. We also talked about taking out the heavy wooden 80's frame around the living room skylight (that matches the kitchen light surround) and fixing that. Waiting for the estimate. I really need kitchen lights, but if it's not too much I'd love to do both parts. OTOH, my house is mostly not remodeled because I spend my money in the barn, so there's always money to be spent there.

*And once again staying up way too late. But had a fairly leisurely day today (not really), and I am feeling a little more relaxed than I have been the last week. whee!

Check in

Hey all. Just forcing myself to post something short rather than just go to bed (which is what I've been doing lately, reading in the evening, and then just going to bed).

Animals are okay. Horses are mud balls once again as it's rained twice in the last 24 hours. Will probably be the last rain for a while.

Got a basic little cart for Tess from a friend of a friend for a really good price. Still need to work on Tess, but glad I have it. Also took her ramps (two single ramps that unfold so you can roll things onto the truck bed) for cheap. I really needed some.

I looked up at the TV just now, and saw that amc is streaming fear fest?! Woot!

Work is okay. Not sure how the numbers are going to look for last month, but we've got a pretty good plan now, and it's been busier in the last 10-14 days.

Our advertisement section that also helps me with my medical blog (they post pictures) offered a few years ago to do videos, and I declined. In the last few months I thought about science communication and education, so finally agreed. They finished the first one, which is just an into to me, a few days ago. P says it looks good. lol After that it will be spots on medicine/health/safety/etc. Very short, under 2 minutes.

Um....I am currently running in a sleep debt, but can't seem to make myself go to bed way early to make it up, and taking naps on weekends isn't working out right now (I feel like I should be doing something). Also haven't been able to sleep in on weekends much. :/ And by all that I mean I need to leave and go to bed. lol

Oh, one more thing. Kitty (the dog) got a little plastic pool a few weeks ago. I splashed in it to show her, but she just thought it was a big drinking spot. Until, 4 days ago I caught her splashing in it! No pictures because I had stepped outside without my phone. And, I've seen her with her paws and belly wet, so I know she's been in it again. Yay! (It's probably too small for Sally dog, and she seems to prefer just sitting).
