Éter is the title of the series of large-scale paintings created specifically for the evocative spaces of the Ipogei Motta in Matera. With this series, Herrero approaches the sacred through the figure of Pier Paolo Pasolini and the iconic image of Christ from Vangelo secondo Matteo, the film shot by the poet in this very city in 1964.
It is a reflection on the relevance and implicit conflictual nature of this symbol within Pasolini’s iconography, focusing the work on specific close-ups of Christ’s face—black-and-white film stills transferred onto canvas and saturated in magenta.
