By drawing on earlier research on e-services, innovation, and technology adoption we investigate the factors that influence adoption of e-services in a specific academic library, Roskilde University Library (RUB). The conclusion of this research is that both external environmental factors and internal organizational factors are important factors in adoption of e-services at Roskilde University Library. However the study shows that external factors such as government intervention and technological development might have been having a more important role than other external factors and that top management might have more influence on radical e-services adoption than other factors in the organizational context.

The issue starts with a paper on the development trajectories of different mobile and wireless technologies and thereafter gives emphasis to questions regarding the upcoming uses of the opportunities provided by technology and the relevant business models and diffusion patterns foreseen.

Design/methodology/approach -The paper uses a qualitative case study approach including rich descriptions based primarily on interviews to investigate an extreme example of successful customer involvement in the development of radical service innovations at Ramboll, a leading Scandinavian engineering consultancy. Findings -The study reveals that customers may be involved in radical innovation processes to different degrees. However, actively involving customers in radical services innovation require a relationship between the customer company and the service provider that might be described as a partnership in which ongoing learning takes place to develop new solutions. The findings reveal that unsolved problems as well as personal trust are key in making customers involved in radical service innovations. Customers involved actively are further characterised by possessing high expertise and extraordinary personal engagement. Research limitations/implications -As in all case studies, the main limitation of the study is the generalisability of the findings. More cases would help to shed light on the generalisability of the findings across other radical innovation projects within the same company or in similar types of company.

There is, however, no general agreement as to the precise meaning and scope of the term. The research purpose of the present article is, therefore, to discuss the e-service concept, its strengths and scope, and thereby contribute to the general understanding and definition of the term. Furthermore, the article aims at examining one of the primary conditions for the development of e-services, namely the codification of knowledge in connection with knowledge intensive services. This phase can be based on involvement of potential users or customersand generally these can contribute positively to the generation of ideas. This paper takes is basis in the new service design of converged mobile rich media services for handheld devices (mobile phones). The overall purpose is to discuss the premises, methods, challenges and limitations, for idea generation based on involvement of users. The paper discusses the challenges of user involvement in a specific; the CAMMP project, where different stakeholders all need to have a saying in the service development for rich, mobile broadcasting services.

It is argued that there are changes to be made at the university were the male domination is resulting in a limited approach to teaching IT both with regard to content and methods. Emphasis on more modern teaching methods and application of technology is needed as well as elimination of female hostile attitudes. The findings are based on a literature review supplemented with results from a work shop with students from a technical university.

Dealing with upcoming or immature technologies, this becomes even more complicated. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the challenges lying ahead when creating user requirements in relation to mobile television and content on mobile devices. The paper will address challenges and methodological considerations in relation to a specific project; the CAMMP project. The methodological challenges direct how users can be involved in the user requirement generation and in that way become innovators.

This paper reports on a semi-field trial performed with a group of young, IT literate users provided with handheld devices and the possibility of watching mobile TV as a basis for creation of ideas for more advanced services. The results shows that this group of users looks for personalized services and content, which have a high sociability factor.

Research and development projects of a multi-national pharmaceutical company entail a close collaboration between many geographically distributed actors. The use of a groupware technology in long term, cross-disciplinary and distributed development projects has been investigated in order to understand how Web-based technologies for collaboration become part of organizational work practices. In this paper, the work of project assistants in setting up and promoting the technology is described and analyzed as technology-use mediation. The ways in which the project assistants position themselves as system administrators by delegating access rights, providing content, and advocating use among development project members are identified as crucial to the integration of the groupware technology in work practices. Two configurations of the groupware technology and the cooperation within the development projects are compared under the metaphors of "the ultimate communication tool" and "a set of private and safe workspaces" respectively. The differences between them are brought forth to discuss the roles of the project assistants and the variety of ongoing meta-structuring activities. In conclusion, formalizing the technology-use mediations is discussed as beneficial if it renders the position of the project assistants more visible within the organization. This need not induce uniformity of configurations across the development projects, but might strengthen the mediating position of the project assistant and how well the groupware technology is suited to the local work practices.

The survey contrasts the picture of the public sector as a digital dynamo and challenges the rational views on IT-strategy formulation. Facing incrementally orchestrated strategies, the paper suggests that more attention is given to the exploitation phase in organizations facing challenges in the policy, managerial and economic domains.
